Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Now I'm sad there's no option to change my vote, as I have no interest in your character's backstory or whatever you have planned. Too much non-appealing stuff going on to make the undead place worth it. :/
I... think we need to start that poll again since we have eight votes for 7 people. : (

So look what I made! :O
I am going to sit here hoping something makes this team less tiny.

Not in the game, just lurking, but my thought here, Raineh Daze, is that you can't berate your fellow players and tell them they're doing it wrong... Before they've done it wrong. You don't want a ridiculous Mary-Sue backstory to come up (e.g. "By the gods, I just remembered that I'm actually from Krypton, so now I have superpowers, even though that doesn't fit the setting at all!"), and that's a fine thing, because it can (of course) disrupt the narrative of an RP, if something like that happened, the GM would say "wow, that's dumb" and would tell the player to think of something else, if not kill off the character right there. What it seems like you're saying is that when these amnesiac characters DO reveal their backgrounds, they are guaranteed to be stupid, that Konica won't do anything it, when she/he might have done something if the stupid backstory was submitted as part of a sheet...Frankly, if I were Konica, I'd be a little insulted. It's as if you don't think she/he can govern her own game.

If the GM is omniscient, which they're not; perfectly attentive to everything, which they're not (it's impossible not to miss something); and willing to bring everything to a halt because one character is stupid, which is an unknown. It also doesn't fix the potential for a character with an unknown background to eventually supplant the plot with a focus on whatever made them amnesiac in the first place.

Apparently just wanting to be put in the bio is insane, even though that fixes the problem and gives other people more to work with OOC, and doesn't change anything (nobody knows anybody else's backstory IC anyway).
You've already done it wrong. I don't have the slightest inclination to say amnesia can't make for good writing; my objection as I have repeatedly said is on the way it makes it trivial to get things into an RP that wouldn't be accepted. ._.

Only if you don't know how to do it. I think I'm fairly competent at what I do, and Iris isn't some over-powered mary sue that wouldn't be accepted. Really, she could work without Amnesia, I guess, but it would make things less interesting considering a few things I have planned for her, I think. If you want me to spoil it, I can I guess, if you're that concerned about it. If you don't want her on your team though, then that's fine too, the three of us can go be on the other team.

Well... yes? It's a lot less concerning if the bio fills its purpose and tells you about the character, rather than telling you what the character knows.

And you appear to be on the other team, now. You and almost everyone else. :/
"You should have called in advance," Reo flatly stated, closing the book and swinging her legs to the ground. Once stood up, the older sibling was also the larger of the pair, by some considerable margin, and more than a little intimidating with the way her glasses, adjusted by one finger, caught the light. Though initially dressed in the same basic uniform, she had much less of it on by this point: shirt and skirt. All the heavy or ruffled parts removed, and the top button of the shirt itself undone. Not, by any stretch of the imagination, the proper look for the student council president.

Though it was her job to be concerned about all the students in the school, Reo simply didn't have the inclination to visit Kazuko that had gripped her sister: there was nothing in her power to help, and she would rather leave it to the medical community to help the girl than blind faith. One visit, for the sake of appearances, and then Reo had gone back to her normal duties.
Books passed between the shelves overhead, and Radiant Blossoming Apparition stood in the enormous library, using her spear to take notes about... something. It was far from clear what; each and every symbol was a distinct sheet of paper and once written on, one loose strand of hair would flick them into a growing pile beside her. It was a normal enough thing for the Alter Ego to be doing... she liked making notes of things. Knowledge was good, it was why her favoured landscape was certainly this library. Even though it was such a lonely place, she still met a surprising amount of people.

Only being close to one of them was rather sad, though.

And guess who had wandered in?

"You look rather battered," the white-haired figure stated, expressionless as she walked closer, away from her stack, "Trouble?"

She was rather too close.
In a roleplay? Easy enough: step one, include the damn backstory in the bio rather than keeping it a mystery. I'm not saying it's bad writing, I'm saying it causes trouble in RP's. :/

What about a conspiracy to murder that instead causes brain damage and a week long coma that results in amnesia and a ton of bruises? There are plenty of ways you can make amnesia interesting, it's just reliant on your creativity and skill as a writer. I'd say that you've been Rping with people using amnesia as a crutch rather than a legitimate writing tool. Im sorry for that.

Plot hijacks, Mary Sues, gamebreaking powers, things that simply don't fit the tone... not once have I seen amnesia used anything close to 'good' without ignoring it entirely. The best outcome I've seen is a cancerous subplot that won't end.

And if there are ways of making it interesting, changing how they've been beaten up... isn't.
How is it possible you've roleplayed with a good amnesiac? I've always found their pasts are mysterious as a way of getting things into the RP that would never be accepted otherwise. At a minimum.
