Pointless

The princess had spoken, and the fight was postponed. Good, they could get back to leaving, and spread out a bit more. This was getting far too crowded, and Yuki was getting more tense than normal. It was only made worse a few scant seconds later when some samurai girl arrived with an entire set of retainers in tow. Her name, however, was familiar--unlike the bunch of nobodies that had revealed themselves otherwise.

After all, a few years back she'd fought Sumire's mother. There'd been one fight early-on that had to be postponed to sudden horrible weather, but the interim meant that the rematch had a considerably more sober, though still not fully, Demon of Satsuma. The result had been a draw. For one of the few good fighters she'd met to just be... gone like that was depressing. And she was already out of sake.

Yuki sheathed her sword before asking Sumire a simple question. This... was hard: the sword was long, and she had only one arm. So, Yuki tossed it straight up and caught it in the scabbard, even though she had to kneel to grab it. If being a samurai didn't work out, she always had a job as a circus performer.

"What killed her?"

Despite her vast ego, drunkenness, and attitude problems, Yuki always speaks as politely as possible. Now, I just need to remember how to write like this in English... :p

Pointless

Clattering rang through the noisy courtyard as the full length of the odachi's scabbard hit the ground: Yuki had drawn her blade and was casually holding it to one of the guardsmen's bodies... one poke was all it would take to ruin any chance of the man being a father. And wouldn't that be terribly embarrassing to have happen to you in public?

"If you lot don't back off, I'll gut you myself," the one-armed samurai said, sounding almost... bored with the whole affair, "His Imperial Majesty needs his guards, and getting into a fight with the Princess's guards because of a few words by a ronin and a braggart is going to sink this venture before it starts. And I refuse to spend another day cooped up here."

"Shimazu Yuki; Demon of Satsuma," Yuki answered, paying little attention to the others chosen--better to get to know people after all their attempts to look good and curry favour were done with--in favour of rummaging around inside the very sash working to keep her decent, finally pulling out a bottle that, from the sloshing sound, was very much already started on, "As for why? The Imperial court is boring. Normal challengers are boring. Demons and wanderers on the road? They sound like fun. And maybe I'll find someone who can play shogi to save their life."

The container--cheap pottery, obviously, was drained dry and just... dropped, shattering on the floor. "Maybe this lot could be a decent fight?"

It was doubtful. Those that would travel long distances for their ego did not, to Yuki's mind, share the same space as people with actual physical ability. At least she had been right next door when the summons went out. Everyone would just have to prove her wrong--starting with not tripping over the blade jutting behind her, mostly too low down to actually see.
