Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

I do have a half-done post I'm just waiting on one piece of information in PMs.
So many people to disappoint with my laziness...
.
Yup.
Tyaethe Radistirin

Tyaethe's thoughts ran along the same path as Maritza's. That made sense, she could hardly think of anyone they might have fought recently to get a mute nem assassin after them in vengeance even with some extra time. But if it was a family member being held hostage awaiting completion of the assassination attempt, then that made it simple. They could solve the problem of what to do with the assassin later, for now...

"Guards! Make sure nobody leaves the palace," Tyaethe shouted, daring anyone to countermand that order. They couldn't have anything getting back to the perpetrators yet, that would ruin it. "This might just be the first time coming to a ball has been worth it. We've stopped an assassination and now... it's time to show people what we can do."

"I hope everyone's ready to get moving as it is, it would take too long to go back and get everyone's armour. We'd be spotted instantly."
Kaguya-hime

It was a nice day for a walk, in the Caster's opinion--though every day was quite nice. She hadn't yet found anything that was able to pin down why certain information was unavailable, which was quite frustrating. She was being forced to use Google and a phone to find some information about what was going on in Fusang... and with her ability to determine what was going on restricted, any mysteries that existed couldn't be solved so easily. It also made it a lot harder to find the interesting magical items that might be smuggled here.

But the internet seemed to be much more likely to recommend restaurants to her than Clairvoyance was and experiencing all the cuisine invented since her death... as fun as it was to stick to all the variations on the familiar, Kaguya wanted a burger. The bun, the potato... both were extremely unfamiliar, even if she knew what they should taste like.

Of course, it just so happened that something had interrupted her before her destination: another Servant and their Master were in the way. Not that this was reason alone to stop in Fusang with its abundance of Servants. No, what caused her to stop was the Servant's hat. Even more specifically, the live bird in the hat.

The bird that, entranced by the beautiful lady and her Noble Phantasm, had turned completely around to gaze at her... along with the hat it was sat in. Who had a bird in their hat?

Saotome Hana

The glasses-wearing girl looked over from her position on the couch, eyes lingering for just a second on her Servant's assets--really, how could she be someone so famous with those--before turning back to the TV. "But that sounds like a ton of work, and they were just about to get to the Beef Wellington..." Not that anything Hana ever watched on cooking shows was going to be cooked here; the limit of her culinary aspirations was instant ramen if simply ordering food was out of the question.

What a pain... this girl was cute, but couldn't she have been a more independent class like one of those Archers? Someone who would go out and do whatever things Servants wanted to get up to and leave her alone. Maybe a dashing robin hood figure who'd earn some rewards in the process. She was nice but couldn't she see that Hana just wanted to sit here and watch people make food?
  • Name: Saotome Hana
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: "Y-You mean I have to do something?"
  • Personality: There are those who don't achieve great things because they don't have the ability or the opportunity to. Then there are those, like Hana, who wouldn't do great things simply because that would require work. It's fair to say that it probably hasn't always been that way and in the end, Hana has no confidence in her abilities to do much of anything, but at this point the ingrained laziness is itself a habit and way of life. Unnecessarily exerting herself when she could sleep in then maybe watch some TV, or think really hard about what to have for dinner?
Really, from that perspective, summoning a Servant is the worst mistake of her life... famous historical figures aren't likely to be content with Hana's desire to just stay home and avoid trouble, or squandering of the talent and intelligence that she has.
  • Abilities: Hana would like to pretend that she has no abilities and is the dead end for what was once a proud magus family and the crest on her arm is a tacky tattoo. But, this place... people just love to throw out terms like "average one", whatever the hell that means, or if it's important. It's way nicer to pretend that the tattoo on your arm is just a tattoo, not a library of impressive ways to kill people when you're the battery.
  • History: As her name indicates, Hana's family is hardly the most prestigious of magus families--their distant routes lost and barely distinguishable from the general populace of Japan, even though she's pretty sure her father said something about west Asia. Only the eyes really stand out as odd. Of course, such a loss of the past could only be expected with a gradual decline of magical talent through the generations, to parents that could barely count as mages at all, working office jobs of all things...
And Hana? Never really good at work, let alone the pressures of entrance exams, wound up in the position of doing pretty much nothing. As certain as her parents that she was about as magical as kelp, the offer to stay in a nice, new city--at their expense! Though not the priciest, but definitely cheaper than home...--for the small cost of trying to do that "Servant summoning" thing? Yeah, that seemed great. Do something that would never work and she'd at least have some time not being bothered to get into a university, or find a job, or get married, or...
It didn't quite go to plan.
  • Other:
(though it makes one wonder how she beats out Sabers older than her but meh)

The simple explanation is that there is no linear scale of younger = more skilled to offset older generally being more powerful (because there are weak older Servants and some more recent outliers). Consequently, simply removing NPs from the equation doesn't guarantee an even fight; you'd have to remove some skills (mana burst breaking everything), physical strength, and possibly equalise the weapons--and depending on who it is, then it's still only even when reduced to a pure contest of skill.

Top Servants are dangerous regardless of how they come out. External factors like trickery or some overall strategy need to come in.
Retrofitting. Anything that would go in Ultimate would look janky as hell whilst this way it goes gun gun gun. And because the X version exists as stronger, it can take the Mega slot.
Not guns.
