Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

  • Name: Ibaraki Akari
  • Age: 9
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Oni
  • Appearance: Probably best if you don't try and catch the ball.
  • Personality: On the one hand, Akari is a fairly innocent and bubbly child. She's a big fan of magical girl shows, and although she doesn't play video games herself, she quite likes watching other people do it. She complains about having to study, even though she's got far less on her plate in that regard than a normal child would, and would much rather go bother the other employees about something.
On the other, she's an oni, and a spoiled one with the most notable lineage that it's possible to have in the modern day. Her attitude towards unfamiliar humans is less "oh, that's a person" and more "oh, that's something to play with and potentially food". The idea of respecting people for simply existing, or having to defer to someone she hasn't been explicitly told to by her mother, simply doesn't occur to the girl.
Some of her behaviours and habits are also pretty odd--none of her clothing is of western style, and she already has the oni habit of drinking sake like it's water.
  • Abilities: Akari is a shockingly powerful oni, given her age. Despite her unimposing physique, there are very few people who are going to be winning if it's simply a contest of pitting strength against one another. She's about as difficult to seriously injure; blunt force is mostly useless without some serious strength behind it, and simply cutting her often requires magical assistance or massive force. Plus, like her mother, if it's not cut off entirely it will doubtless heal fine, and losing limbs would be more of a (physical) inconvenience than life-threatening.
Although she hasn't any practice at using it, Akari has inherited Ibaraki's affinity for Heat--not just heat in the direct sense, but heat as a driving force for changes. It's this affinity that led Ibaraki-douji so easily to shapeshifting, and allows for just reattaching missing body parts later. She's also inherited the ability--or some would call it a mystic scar--common to all of the famous oni's relatives, no matter the connection: Lost Arm. So significant was the injury that, even now, her entire extended bloodline has the ability to summon a single phantom arm.
You know, if two arms isn't enough for hitting things.
  • Skills: She's... good at clipping vtubers? Really, you can't expect too much out of her when it's a matter of finesse.
  • Equipment: She's got an iron club, when needed, in case something really needs to be broken. Spoiled as she is, her phone is also brand new and top of the line. If it weren't for needing other people to do the actual purchasing of alcohol, she'd probably have more spending money.
  • Brief Backstory: As her name implies, Akari is related to Ibaraki-douji. The Ibaraki-douji. In fact, she's Ibaraki's sole daughter, which explains why her upbringing thus far has been extremely luxurious... but also rather sheltered and disconnected from the world. Of course, that's not good for her upbringing at all--she needs to actually interact with people and at least come to be able to see humans in a slightly less dismissive light. But that would take a lot of time and effort.
The solution? Pay Tomoko to do it. Tomoko gets easy access to muscle, Akari gets to meet lots of new people and get used to the public, and Ibaraki's time is free for other things.
Tyaethe

Now dressed, Tyaethe felt her face heat up as she saw what Maletha was doing. Honestly, did the girl...? She was a two centuries old paladin, not a child! Had she gotten confused? But no, that shouldn't be it, she had spent most of the evening as an adult, the girl probably just wanted someone to play with, and it wasn't like any of the other knights would be particularly suited for it. Well, Lilianna had her family, that might be an option... but it was doubtless to late in the night to go and wake her up.

Maybe if the princess came visiting again.

No, for now she would just have to play along, and the vampire climbed onto the bed behind the rabbit, making it wave back. Hmm, was there something else...? Oh, it was just a little rabbit, and this was a mighty dragon. Dragons were very proud creatures, you didn't want to upset them at all if you could help it.

So, she had it bow, too.
Elastasia

A cat from the far east? Well, that was something nostalgic. But if it could be used to find magic users somehow, then that would make her ability to sequester herself somewhere out of the way and read all the easier... if the heroine got interested in magic, then outside of class, there was a chance that they might run into one another. And she would like to avoid any heartbreak from such an obviously-unobtainable figure getting close to her if the girl turned out to be her type after all.

This left the noble staring into space for an awkwardly long time, until the shopkeeper coughed and drew her attention back.

"Oh, I'm so sorry! Yes, I'd quite like to purchase this kitten, and anything that's needed to look after it..." Well, she didn't have much in the way of money on her, but she could just sign something to handle that. Really, the cost of a single animal was insignificant.
Erich Cazt

As predicted, the concerted effort to halt the demonslayer's swing found success--the blade bit into the joint, and the desperate block was successful. Gerard was indeed not cut in half, free to try and disarm the immense figure of his equally huge blade. What he no doubt wasn't expecting was to meet no resistance to leveraging the weapon out of his hand—

—stepping forward even as Erich's free arm raised a shield to block the ambitious strike towards his head—

—and pivoting, outstretched arm wrenching free of the impairing stab, but more alarmingly, being solidly aligned with Gerard's midsection. Gerard, who had fully committed to a shockingly easy disarm, pushing himself entirely within the ancient hero's reach.

As it transpired, Erich's agility was scarcely less alarming than his strength without impediment. More than fast enough to turn Gerard into an impromptu projectile to disrupt Serenity's attempted follow-up, and temporarily limit the attacks from his now-unarmed sword hand. It was intelligence and skill unbecoming of an undead, his shield warding the captain off as the knight dropped to one knee and rose again with sword in hand.

The demon cocked her head, munching some more nuts as the reinforcements started to filter in.

The arrows pounding into the once-formidable hero's armour had no immediate apparent effect, even as it slipped into the exposed joint from the raised arm. The undead barely even seemed to notice as it pulled its sword free and started to move into a defensive stance once again, the shaft snapping and the arrowhead remaining completely ignored. But maybe it contributed just enough, added enough resistance to the movement to give Gerard just a fraction of a second more to capitalise on it.

The dent the morningstar left in the armour's side was noticeable, likely bruising on a person if not rib-breaking, and definitely threatening to impair movement and, more certainly, breathing. Unfortunately, their long-dead foe had no such consideration for breathing. Nor did it feel pain, or even concern, stepping back with the impact and finally bringing its sword to bear once more. With Gerard this close, there was no opportunity for the same massive swing that had sent Serenity flying back, but that didn't mean the cut across Erich's body was much less of a threat, much less capable of cutting through him if he reacted incorrectly.

"Bringing him back with just his muscles and reflexes so he's controllable makes him a lot less spooky," An unexpectedly sultry voice said, coming from one of the corners behind them all. It was followed by the sound of someone eating something crunchy."Or did you just miss that everyone in the Cazt family is a magical powerhouse, Mr Necromancer? Even a lot of their close relatives are like that."
"Um... could you tell me about this kitten?" Elastasia asked, lifting up the offending creature so it was visible. It at least seemed slightly more pliable now, "Is it just a cat...? It seemed to know to go for me when I was keeping a barrier up to hem in the other escapees."

It could make an interesting familiar, she supposed. Not that it was the sort of magic that she'd ever shown interest in, but having another pair of eyes to look out for people that might want to interrupt her reading and drag her off to some party... although, it wasn't something that would really harm her social standing in a non-intrusive way. A magical prodigy doing something so blatantly associated with mages? Eh, it was nothing. Everyone liked having pets, noblemen took to breeding horses...

Or it could just be a cat. That was also possible. A cute cat, but a cat nonetheless.
Gisela

"A briefing? Sounds boring, call me if a fight starts," the demon announced when everyone started gathering, turning to look at the merchant, "Or if you can get another one of those pastries."

With that, she turned around and... well, seemingly just stepped forward. But, as if passing through an invisible doorway, she disappeared without any trace of having been there in the first place. It was always quite an odd sight to see, for the Hundi, because it didn't work anything like the teleportation magic she knew existed. There, you either had to move yourself via magic, or establish a stable connection first... both of which were highly visible.

Demons didn't really obey the same rules as mortals did, so it was only to be expected.

At the briefing, the mage did her best to stay small and out of the way, especially once the actual threat was described. No, she had nothing to do with the raising of the dead... but she was a necromancer in practice, even if it was the legal, healing-oriented side of it. Better to not get the attention of so many armed and armoured soldiers whilst everyone was consumed by outrage. She might need to talk to Velvetica afterwards, though--

--She might not be able to raise undead, but when it came to putting them down again, there were few people who had more options available.

Leaping over the fallen demonslayer may have been a valuable plan in an open field, or even a forest. Somewhere that there was unrestricted vertical movement, and getting truly out of reach would have been feasible. But the knights had no luxury of space, nor of endless sky above. For a tomb, the Cazt Mausoleum was vast and spacious but they still lay three floors beneath the earth, and there was no such excess of space to take advantage of.

Enough to bypass the undead knight? Certainly, if he had been more tied up, yet instead his recovery from Fanilly's deflection turned into an overhead slice that only accelerated, tip of the blade scoring through the rock with a hideous shriek and coming to a dead halt right before it would collide with his intruding shield... or Serenity. But that scarcely mattered, the wash of air following it forcing the knight backwards.

The shudder from the ceiling above gave the reminder that maybe forcing their opponent into attacks that would carve through the ceiling was not a wise move. Mages and the undead had a much better chance of enduring the collapse of the mausoleum's ceilings than they did, and no matter how thick the stone, it was hardly expected to stand up to the Demonbreaker.
