Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

It was okay, I just don't get why it was typed in the past tense.

What, precisely, is wrong with the past tense? The overwhelming majority of published fiction is also in the past tense. The opening is in past tense.
Well... we both own fedoras IRL, I guess?
Card captor guy, your post doesn't work. There is no way that someone's hotel room would be the first thing to reach upon arriving at a new island. It especially wouldn't be your first contact with another person. For starters, it's inside, and therefore you'd have to go through SOME sort of lobby. Secondly, there is no REASON to head towards someone's hotel room.

And on top of that, it's not really a scene characters have much, if any place, wandering into. Starting conversations with people waiting outside a door is the job of security guards, not passers-by.

... it's probably too early to point out the sand, too.
In her hotel room, Rain finished lacing up her boots, and completed the ensemble: placing a hat firmly on her head. It wasn't an outfit that she was particularly keen to go outside in, though. It was... well, it was revealing, and she felt that it hugged her figure a little too closely. The hat was part of her normal ensemble, though. Really, it was the leotard that made her the most anxious, though the coat was certainly more showy and less practical than the one she normally wore--and likely to get her in deep trouble with animal rights groups.

Typically, the worst possible thing that could happen to someone that didn't want to be seen happened: there was a knocking at the door. A door that Rain had, in fact, forgotten to lock. She also hardly had the time to get changed before answering.

"Wh-Who is it?"
Aboard the Zyguard ship, Yui looked dispassionately at the message and climbed to her feet, pushing away the empty plate that was all that remained of her lunch.12:03, exactly on time--and now she had to go rescue someone that had been sent out with no defences whatsoever. Foolish, really. Destination entry--five seconds, and then another five for the wall to materialise and wash over you.

That was all it took for Kamen Rider OOO to arrive on the scene, standing beside Nicholas and looking ahead for the opponents--unfortunately, not in view. Thus, the transformation into OOO was unnecessary, and Yui's backup defence (a wickedly sharp knife) was more than adequate for the meantime.

She didn't say anything to her comrade.
Chris... sort of answered the summons. She arrived in the right geographic area... and promptly set about relaxing on the beach, somehow getting some appropriate money from within her clothing and purchasing herself icecream. She'd run over in a little while; for now she wanted to take advantage of this lovely weather... plus she got less strange looks so long as she stayed on the beach. As long as she kept away from the surf, that is--a dragon would always get strange looks.

The martial artist rather wished that her old shoes hadn't fallen apart; it was kind of hard to acquire replacements in the middle of the Chinese wilderness... and here was no better, at least as regards price range.

Yeah. The IC had been posted just seconds after this did.

It was a joke. :p
It does?
"Why do ye even bother askin'?" September wondered, frowning at the second--second!--boy in muggle clothes to ask if they could join her, then sit down anyway. Was some basic courtesy too much to ask from the mudbloods, or were their parents as brutish as they were mundane? Really, they could have the decency to wait for an answer before taking a seat.

A clattering and flapping at the door showed that yet another muggleborn had somehow found their way to September's compartment, and she was really starting to wonder if she was cursed. Nobody that she even began to recognise, at all? No-one that she wouldn't have to explain everything to? Seemed this trip would be devoted to knocking some sense into a bunch of fools...

"Ye may as well come in, I dinnae think there are any free compartments."
I have talked over something with the GM, and because Hanako's going to have to sit out any fights that are known about in advance... well, this girl is here to pick up the slack:

Name: Aikawa Yumiko

Age: 19

Appearance: She is actually prettier than the picture indicates.

Personality: Warm and friendly, Yumiko doesn't often speak unless spoken to--but this doesn't mean she has high tolerance for rudeness or over-familiarity. Such things act rather like flipping a switch; the brunette can be incredibly cold if annoyed. She prefers doing to thinking, and gets antsy pretty quickly if she's got nothing to keep her hands occupied.
She's pretty good at keeping her emotions hidden when it's practical--even if this means quashing her desire to help those in need.

Abilities: With an affinity of 'flowers', Yumiko's direct magic tends to look fairly silly. This is because... well, it's basically pulling flowers out of a basket and throwing them at people or the ground. The magic only comes about because she's grown it into them in the first place--though she has a sizeable enough garden, and her affinity massively helps, so she's not in danger of running out unless she's truly wasteful. The effects are fairly easy to see coming, but can get decidedly nasty if not dealt with immediately. Like a rose bush sprouting that sprays thorns as directed, or an enormous flytrap.
The more metaphorical ramifications of flowers, however, have exactly one relevance to Yumiko: all the links to beauty have made her stunningly beautiful... and she wishes that she could turn it off. Unfortunately, she's grown into it rather than its being a magical overlay, so there isn't too much that can be done. She hates the attention.

Weapons/Equipment: Her flowers. There's rather a lot, but she's cautious in using them--and if anyone else throws them, they'll wither due to the lack of the latent magic's activation. Some can activate directly, but others need to grow first.

Brief Backstory: Yumiko hails from a young and relatively new mage family--and so, she had absolutely no knowledge of Toshiko upon meeting the older female whilst she was finishing her education in London. They kept in contact whilst Yumiko was learning and once she returned home met up in person again. They're friends, and though Yumiko isn't an employee, she often helps out.
Her family might be new to magic, but they're influential in business. Hence how she has the time to help out Toshiko for free.
Sticking a kitten in a hood is a good way to mislay the poor thing. :p

Antoinette is actually modelled off mine. Maybe I should take a picture...
