It’s none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.

“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages.”

Fair enough.

I suppose I imagined, using the World of Darkness example, humans having the aptitude to learn warding techniques against or perhaps the ability to see supernatural (i.e. Hunter: The Reckoning") as the game progresses. Not that I want to compare this to anything, it was just an example.

But I've always like the idea of the average human character thrown into extraordinary circumstances, whether good or bad, and even the threat/potential of becoming that which he fears the most.

So, is it safe to assume, that the human characters can start off as anything we want, any normal background?

@The Harbinger of Ferocity

I was thinking the ol' "World of Darkness" rule set when you first started this so it's nice you mentioned V:TM. I spent many nights back in the early days rolling my 300 dice health pool ;) (The WoD system had such outrageous amounts of dice to roll...*sigh*)

In any case, aside from supernatural characters who already have inherent "powers", are pure human characters starting out with any type of supernatural abilities or are they by and large just human? Or, are these things going to manifest as the story progresses?

EDIT: I know this is an interest check thread, but figured others might be curious and I'm trying to get a clearer direction for initial character development.
The Cage

“You missed it doc.” The girl cracked a wicked smile just for Zvikas, as she looked up at him from the cell floor. “You disgusting piece of shit.”

Czigani had reverted to her tall, lean, human form several minutes prior to the Doctor’s return to the basement holding area of the hospital. Lying on her back, fully naked and bruised, beads of sweat rolled down her face, as did tears of pain from the transformation. It hurt, especially for the first time, as though she were a virgin being violently penetrated by an uncompassionate lover and left to reel in her own agony. She shifted her eyes to the ceiling, tracing the tiny cracks in the paint if only to divert her mind away from the horror of what occurred, the visions of the wolf’s rage, and the killer instincts that grew within her each passing moment she had been in that beastial form. There was no control, no independent thoughts, only a creature of destruction who wanted out. Who wanted to be free at any cost. It was, at least, one of the only sentiments shared between her and the werewolf within.

“Your body will heal from the internal damage soon, Miss Novikov, of this I am quite certain. And as you progress, it will become much easier for your mind to reconcile.”

Doctor Zvikas placed a small cooler he’d been holding onto the floor and opened the lid, pulling a large piece of raw, red meat wrapped in plastic, which he slowly unfurled.

“I was going to give this to you as the wolf, considering fresh, uncooked, and bloody was preferable over grilled and seasoned when you are a creature such as you were.” He smirked, tossing the plastic wrap aside and stepping closer to the cage before placing it onto the floor of the cell several inches from where the girl lay. “But I figured at this point it didn’t matter.”

She inhaled the scent of the flesh & blood, and her stomach rumbled with a hunger she’d never felt before. The initial transformation, the brute power, strength, and constitution of sustaining the wolf, and the final return to a human form took a major toll on the body and mind. The experience had been worse due to the fact that she hadn’t eaten decent solid food in days, but instead subjected to drug injections, and liquid meals as some form of submissive treatment plan. Either way, the hunger was there, and it mattered little to her at that moment where the food came from as her hand reached for the cold slab and pulled it toward her eagerly awaiting lips.

“Yes, enjoy what you’ve earned, Miss Novikov.”

Zvikas watched the girl tear into the bloody flesh with vicious fervor, her moans of pure satisfaction filling the room as the blood dripped from the meat and onto the floor, staining her hands and face while she chewed and snarled like the beast living inside her.

“And rest assured, there will be so much more as we unlock the secrets buried within you. A creature of beauty you are indeed.”
Oookay folks...I think I have everyone where they need to be :)
Vin watched as Eli’s potential PTSD turned into actual PTSD when the poor bastard quickly raised his gun and aimed it toward the trees up along the hill behind the group, nowhere near any one of his initial targets. Vincent eventually caught himself staring at the trees hoping all the fuss Eli kicked up was worth it, but when it turned out to be nothing but a lone deer, Vin shook his head in disappointment and slight embarrassment to be in the same company.

“Dude, you’re losing it.” He shot Eli a sour expression, but clearly the gunslinger wasn’t paying attention and addressing Christy and Nate before deciding to head off into the direction of town.

“Well...now...what the fuck, man?” Vincent’s voice echoed off the thick tree line. “You’re just leaving us here? And who the hell is our ‘benefactor’?”

It was a futile attempt, as his angry, yet legitimate questions only fell on deaf ears while Eli simply kept walking, determined to stay his intended course of being an asshole. But why should he answer questions when clearly the guy doesn’t know what’s going on himself, and yet he delegates duties to everyone else like we’re in the military and the group has become his own private army of misfits and criminals. Vin’s attention snapped over to the old man as he took the opportunity to climb back into the car, signally his young companion to follow suit. Abi was more than happy to leave this place behind them, and even though curiosity got the better of her at times, this chain of chaotic events was not one of those. Even Brooks, who seemed a reasonable and mild-mannered fellow, didn’t like the situation and was more concerned with Abi’s protection and welfare than his own.

“Guys, wait! You don’t-”

Vin’s plead was quickly cut off by the roar of the old truck’s eight-cylinder engine, as Brooks shifted the gears into reverse and leaned out of the window.

“I’m not going to apologize for doing the smart thing.”

The old man hit the gas, and backed up a few feet before turning the wheel to correct the direction of the truck and shift back into drive, sticking his head out of the window for the last time.

“I’d suggest you folks do the same, yeah?” His words trailed as the truck hauled ass down the dusty dirt road and out of sight.

“Fuck! This!”

Vin kicked at the ground, clenching his fist as though he was about to punch someone or something, but there was nothing within reach.

He found himself pacing back and forth for a moment, before looking over at Christy, and then at Nate, who was about as unimpressed with the current situation.

“So now what the fuck do we do?” He said, hoping there was a better plan for their survival, as he made his way toward the Nate and the mine shaft entrance.

“And where is Jennifer?...”
Oh yes...

So, then it's really Vin, Christy, and Jack the Dog.
I'm a sucker for dark corners, so definitely Urban Arcana if the elbow room still exists ;)
@AcerRo

Are we good to continue posting or did you have something additional to advance the story?

Or, if you're fine with it, I can include an Abi/Brooks exit in my next post, which would then leave Vin, Eric, & Christy outside the mine shaft at that point. Then we'll go from there (?)
@AcerRo I say Abi/Brooks just leave in the truck they rolled up. No reason to kill them off.

And @Xandrya, it's a TS, same shit different day. You'll be fine.

This had nothing to do with anything...it was just funny.

Happy Friday.
