@Pseudo Stygian Different sorts of Cloudcuckoolander, but I agree they'd probably get along famously. I can imagine them trying to explain things with music or light; like Lyra plays a quick-tempo because she's feeling happy, and Zeke starts painting with bright colours to try and "say" the same thing.

Zeke was following a sunbeam. This wasn't particularly odd. He'd only made it through the assembly by watching the sunlight reflect off the blonde hair of the girl in front of him, and he was hardly in the mood to sit still now. The sunbeam led him through the halls, until he stopped at a window looking over the mountains.

The stones shone in several variants of peppery grey, and he lifted his camera to photograph it. He looked down at the picture. It was wrong. He made a little sound of frustration, then held his camera up again. It can't catch the pepper stone. He zoomed it to the maximum, and that only barely managed to get the hint of it.

Pouting, he folded his legs and sat. Using the camera's image as a reference, he started to draw. Streams of colour followed his finger. First he got the broad shapes of the mountains. That was easy. He'd drawn them so many times. The green base he created by passing both hands across the bottom. That wasn't important.

The stones were halfway up, between a jagged shadow-coloured crag and a lone swathe of matte sand. They were flat across the top, angles gently changing the shade and quality of the grey and pepper. This would be the hard piece. He held out his index finger, then decided to use his pinky. With the caution of a ice fisher in summer, he began to add the many, many, dots that had drawn his attention.

EDIT: And up. Feel free to run across Zeke and his picture. It's visible from most angles, but 2d, so you'd see a smear if you came from directly left or right of it. Don't walk into it or through it.

Personality: Often found staring at windows, focused on how the light is moved and changed by the imperfections in the glass, Zeke is politely referred to as distracted, more accurately referred to as ditzy and unaware. He's quite intelligent, but takes a moment to engage when people speak to him. People, to him, are just objects that reflect light, and so he tends to forget people might have something to say.

He wanders frequently, and has been found in all sorts of odd places. Due to Zeke's otherwise gentle and innocent nature, he's usually left to his own devices. When you do manage to catch his attention, you find an enthusiastic and kind boy who wants to be friends with everyone.

Despite all this, he has a terrible fear of the dark. He dislikes earth elementalists and their basement training grounds, though is fascinated with gems. He likes other elements though, especially water and fire for how they change and make light respectively.

History: Zeke is the son of an electrical engineer father and a earth elementalist mother. He was a bit of a handful ever since he learned to walk, and his parents would often find him sitting by ponds or staring at devices his father was fixing. Though a happy child, his mother worried about his lack of social skills and interest in making friends.

It was one of her fellow teachers who helped her understand Zeke. She found they could bond over jewelery, and she was the one who bought him his first camera. He was enrolled in the academy in the hopes that he'd find some children his own age that could understand him and gain some real friends.

Equipment: A digital camera equipped with a flash and old-fashioned viewfinder. It's his most treasured possession, and he is most often seen taking photos with it, even of things other people might find boring.
