Bio

Bios are stupid; oh, sure, everyone can see them, but I bet nobody reads them.

Rude hand gestures and shpadoinkle, there.

No, I wasn't drunk when I wrote this, but I was very tired.

Unfortunately I don't have the equipment or skills for art otherwise I would totally do OC art for my character. If preferred over another kind of picture I could do description instead?

Don't worry, preference does not equal requirement; description is ok, or the use of images you find online that you feel are a close match to what you have in mind.

So, yeah, do whatever you're comfortable with!
A young man was in a cemetery in rural Tokyo, old tape recorder in hand. "... Sun is just setting. If rumors and reports are correct, things should get very interesting, any minute now..." He half smiled to himself, although beginning to sweat from nerves. "S-spirits often linger and haunt within the area of their final resting place. Usually they repeat old patterns, as though retracing steps they took in life-"

He jumped and snapped his attention when he heard a growl, like an animal! "Oh!- Th-th-that, uh, was definitely not a bear! Ghosts usually don't vocalize, though, of course, though they can definitely strike objects. Afterall, the German 'Poltergeist' means 'Noisy Ghost'..." He paled as he could just make out trees moving in the newly dark sky. "That seems, uh, unexpected, though. I'll have to research local legends; perhaps the region is experiencing, uh, some overlapping manifestations?"

After watching it pass and continue for a minute or two, he gulped hard. The recorder was shaking visibly in his hand, "I may have... Mischaracterized the events taking place? My Japanese isn't so good, after all, but... I should attempt a visual confirmation, if for no other reason than to better inform and focus follow up research-"

He almost dropped his tape recorder when he felt a sudden chill, and his recorder started scrambling noise! "eiufbfbrh-ey, keep it down, will ya? You don't want him coming back, trust me." Brian turned blue in the face, yet his eyes lit up!

"huwah? C-contact!" He almost lost hold of the device, but recovered as he tried to begin questioning the apparition. "H-hey, um, do you, uh, have some kind of purpose-"

"Kid, you have no idea." The voice came out surprisingly clear; not distorted like it always did on tv. A gravelly voice, rough. "Look, we've only got a short window of opportunity, and I promise, you want my help!"

Another hard gulp, "Uh, and, you are?"

"I used to go by 'Ogremon', but together? We could be so much more... I've had my eye on you, Brian! You want to prove there's more to your world, right? Well, I can help you! But first, you've got to agree to help me, do you get it? If you agree to a contract with me, you'll see a lot more than what you can catch in old film! You might even find out what's really going on!"

This was too weird, he thought to himself. But what this... 'Ogremon' seemed to imply, it was everything he was after! Maybe he'd even find- "Hey, are you still listening to me? Hurry up and follow that Gr- uh, that 'dragon'; we'll form the contract, but first we need to wait for the opportune moment, when the energy is high! Now get moving!"

Brian jumped again, adjusted his glasses, and got to joggin in the direction that... Whatever it was had gone, snatching up his recorder so he could get further instructions. If he'd studied more things like faeries and demons, or at least put more thought into the exchange, he might have told this entity to kick rocks, but no, now he was leaving the cemetery and following the rather large trail the beast left in its wake...

In ancient times, monsters lurked under every bush, in every shadow. They were as real as the screen you're staring at, right now.

They were not entirely immortal, though. Eventually, as time went on, and people lost their fear of the dark, the unknown, the monsters died out.

That doesn't mean they went away, however.

Their power, their spirits, the fear they represented continued on, and they found ways to keep acting out their goals.

Some learned about this, brave souls, unafraid of the darkness, who sought to protect their fellows from these dark creatures. They not only fought off the fiends when they manifested and attacked, but found ways to banish them; contain them, so they couldn't hurt anyone else!

Now, the world is largely free from the reign of terror, even though much of the world has stopped believing in them.

Something has happened, however, and a new generation must take up the mantle to protect the world, and recapture the monsters! All that remains is a simple question:

Are you afraid of the dark?

Welcome to the OOC for another silly little re-imagining of another obscure property :P

So, little details that should clarified: Yes, it's a modern setting. this isn't meant to be a horror rp so much as an action/adventure with horror themes.

what set's this idea of mine apart from the source material? Well, instead of monsters shrunken to a small size, and getting to full size by drawing energy from human screams, rather the physical bodies of monsters ceased to exist, but their power survived. The spirits of these monsters became bound to small objects and trinkets; shiny/novel little things that mortals happily snatch up for themselves. Easier to take the "invitation" than to forcefully take over human bodies. Thus, whoever finds themselves in possession of one of the Artifacts, must struggle for control, changing places with the Monster should one fail(possessor becomes the posessee), or resist it entirely and render it just a trinket, again, trapping the fiend inside.

It's possible, and intended, within the setting to take control and use the Monster's power as your own! I'll even make some "starters" available for new players to choose from, like pokemon :P You'll still have to rp getting this, as I have a loose story in mind, but, hopefully we can work together to make a fun and interesting story ^_^

That being said, here's a character sheet one can submit when applying for the rp (no more than 4 players, so do pay attention to whether or not the rp is listed as open. Be prepared for a lengthy discussion.

lastly, feel free to ask questions here in the OOC.
Cool! I'm in the middle of one thing, atm, but I'll try to get a post out this weekend.

I'm going to offer up some good stuff for the setting(moreso tips for players):

Instead of computers, one works with "analytical engines"

In steampunk fiction, the aesthetic is often emphasized, so be sure to describe things and their functions/operations, even if we're leaning more into the fiction than the science. The same goes for fashion, definitely lean into the style, and the cultural mannerisms, even if the society is presented as more egalitarian/modern than what might be considered accurate to the period one is emulating. Basically, the genre lends itself well to "padding" :P

the aether angle can accommodate some tech and devices otherwise not possible when limited to steam and clockwork; take advantage of that! Like the OP said, you don't feel constrained to the limits of hard science, it's not science fiction it's science fantasy :P

And if I'm stepping on toes do tell me to back off
