"Evolution isn't just growth. It's a Pokemon carving its role in the universe!
Full Name: Jason Yew
Age: 26
Year at the Institute: Third Year
Favorite Color: Purple
Thesis Subject: Unlocking Evolution: A Study of Gender-Based Evolution and What Controls It?
Appearance: From an outsider's perspective, Jason looks like a mess. His shirts are wrinkled, his lab coat is permanently stained from toxins, and he frequently looks bored or like he's about to fall asleep. This is a side effect of his work. Behind his serious expression, Jason's mind is constantly at work. He's so driven by his research, that he's forgotten his own self-care more often than not. He keeps several extra lab coats in his dorm, but they are typically stained by the end of the work day. Despite his usually serious expression, his eyes will light up and he gets more animated if someone mentions a topic that interests him.
Personality: Jason has a distinctly dry humor. Because of his serious expression, it's often hard for other students to tell if he's joking or not. One time - during lunch - he suggested that feeding the Trubbish outside the cafeteria the school's pudding was causing the Trash Bag Pokemon to get poisoned themselves. All he got were blank stares.
He's also received an unfortunate reputation for being unintentionally intimidating. In reality, he's a bit awkward and struggles opening up to new people. When people get in his inner circle though, they discover he's surprisingly patient with his Pokemon and with kids.
Jason is also fully dedicated to his research and thesis. He's developed a taste for stale coffee thanks to long nights in the lab. Many times, he'll answer a 3AM phone call wide awake because he wasn't even aware the time had passed. His research notes are covered in burn holes from testing with Pokemon venom. It's no stretch to say his own Pokemon have kept him alive more than once.
Bio: Hailing from Fuchsia City, it was no surprise that Jason Yew loved learning about Pokemon. Fuchsia's Pokemon Zoo and Safari Zone meant there was always a new species for him to discover. When he finally turned ten, his parents paid for him to play the Safari Game for his birthday. Despite almost catching a Scyther (and getting chopped for it), Jason found his future partner in a male Nidoran. This was Doku. The duo became fast friends and Doku's unique evolutionary line would go on to become the foundation of Jason's research.
Jason and Doku would also play with their next door neighbor Janine and her Venonat. With her dad being the Fuchsia gym leader Koga, the two bonded over their mutual love of Poison-Type Pokemon; often clashing over who had the "better" partner. When they were old enough, Jason and Janine went on separate journeys to conquer the Indigo Plateau. Jason's journey would be cut short after a devastating loss to Sabrina in Saffron City. It was during this time, Jason had a chance meeting with the legendary Professor Oak! The Professor had been in Saffron on a work visit and had heard about Jason through Koga. He was surprised by Jason's knowledge of Pokemon biology and his interest in understanding evolution. On Oak's suggestion, Jason went back to school and eventually applied to the Laventon Institute.
Since arriving at the LI, Jason has become a standout student. His self-care aside, many professors find him to be a hard-working individual. There have been concerns expressed about him needing to be a bit more social with his peers though. He finished his second year at the LI with a research trip to the Alola Region. Starting his third year, he's been requested to TA for Pokemon Ecology 101 with Professor Birch. Not that he WANTS to, but he needs the credits for graduation.
Name: Doku Characteristic: Proud of its power! Bio: Caught in the Kanto Safari Zone, Doku was Jason's first partner. The two have been inseparable since day one. Since Jason changed his focus to being a professor, Doku has become less of a battler and more a jack of all trades, often using his power for traversing regions (surfing, smashing rocks, etc.) or keeping Jason out of trouble.
Name: Luna Characteristic: Good endurance! Bio: The first Pokemon Jason caught after joining the Laventon Institute. During his first year, he wanted to analyze the Nidoran species in their natural habitat: Mt. Moon. During this time, he caught a female Niodran he named Luna. Intending to pair her with Doku, he was shocked when she quickly evolved and lost her ability to lay eggs! Now, she provides crucial information and is an invaluable part of Jason's research team. Like Doku, she has a big part in keeping Jason alive.
Name: Toxin Characteristic: Loves to Eat! Bio: A recent catch during his research trip to Alola. Jason discovered Toxin at Wela Volcano Park. It had stolen food from a very angry Salazzle and was currently being chased. Jason and Doku saved the Salandit and won it over with the promise of more food. Jason theorizes something about Toxin's biology makes him immune to Salazzle pheromones. He wonders if this means a male Salandit evolution could be discovered.
Name: Jester Characteristic: Mischievous! Bio: Before his infamous battle with Sabrina, Jason had attempted to catch a Gastly from Lavender Town's Pokemon Tower. He was successful in catching and evolving it too. The problems arose when he discovered Jester had no interest in battling! It spent most of the battle just pulling pranks on Jason and not listening to orders. Now, he mostly just haunts Jason's dorm. Jester takes a strange delight in tormenting his trainer, and Jason fears what it could be capable of as a Gengar... He's never tried to evolve him.
Quirks: - Despite not seeming interested, Jason does keep up with the professional battling scene. He was over the moon the night Koga joined Kanto's Elite Four. - Due to multiple cases of being exposed to Pokemon venom (whether accidental or because of Jester), Jason's body has developed natural resistances to most common types of poison. It weirds out his fellow students when he has no reaction to poison sting. - Jason believes poison-type Pokemon may hold the key to evolution as poison-types are among the most numerous in the Pokédex.
@SpookySquid Not bad. I’d maybe tie the thesis into her background a bit more, but other than that, I like it. I was hoping more people would stick with the tree/plant gimmick (mostly for keeping the joke going), but I get not everyone thinks that way.

Started Writing again and made this RP ages ago. It's an old favorite so I want to bring it back properly. Will most likely cap this RP at 5-6 players for the sake of my own sanity and not managing multiple character plot lines. With that being said... Welcome Back to:
Ahh Pokémon Professors. One of the most recognized and distinguished careers within the wide world of Pokémon. While there are many ways one can become officially certified as a professor, only the best and brightest study at The Laventon Institute for Pokémon Study and Professorship (Often shortened to The Laventon Institute to save time). Located in the heart of Jubilife City in the Sinnoh Region, The Institute is the premier school for those looking to earn their Professor certification and pursue Pokémon research as a career. Among the Institute's distinguished list of alumni, notable graduates include Samuel Oak, Jameson Rowan, Augustine Sycamore, Cedric Juniper, Sasha Burnet-Kukui, and Gloria Magnolia just to name a few.
As befitting the distinguished nature of the Laventon Institute, they receive numerous applications prior to every school year. Due to the school's highly selective nature, only a handful of applications are ever accepted. One year, only five students were brought in as first years! Those chosen to attend the Institute spend the next three years immersed in the study of Pokémon. Courses cover everything from studying Pokémon type classifications all the way to how newly discovered moves and abilities can be applied in battle and practical day to day use. Upon graduation, the Institute will even provide funding for graduates to begin their research or connect them with a Professor in the same field of study! The Institute boasts a staggering ninety-six percent career placement!
The Laventon Institute was founded shortly after the colonization of the present-day Sinnoh Region. Following the disbanding of the Galaxy Expedition Team, Professor Jonothan Laventon - the creator of the first Pokedex - converted Galaxy Hall into Sinnoh's first school for youths to be properly educated about their Pokémon partners: The Galaxy Charter School! The charter school became quite popular and served as a major draw for students from neighboring regions to come to Sinnoh and study, contributing to the growth of Jubilife City.
As Pokémon research advanced over the years, the role of the charter school had to change to match up with the times. More trainer's schools were opening to teach children the basics of Pokémon, and more youths longed for the freedom of adventure rather than being cooped up in a classroom all day. In one of his last acts before retiring as headmaster, Prof. Laventon decided to convert the school into a facility for training the next generation of Pokémon Professors! Thus, the Laventon Institute for Pokémon Study and Professorship was born! The next headmaster promptly shortened the name...
In between their class schedules and attending lectures with visiting professors, the crown jewel of the Laventon Institute's curriculum is the Thesis Program. As part of their application to the Institute, students are required to submit a paper on what specific aspect of Pokémon research they are most interested in pursuing. These papers can range from a wide variety of topics such as evolution, breeding, battle theory, or even the origin of Pokémon themselves! Once accepted, students will spend their three years pursuing that topic and - prior to graduation - will be required to present a thesis paper documenting all of their findings. This research will form the backbone of the student's field of study post-graduation. Even multiple years after he submitted it, Prof. Oak's thesis on the relationship between humans and Pokémon is upheld as the gold standard for the Thesis Program.
Students working on their theses are allowed a considerable amount of freedom. The Institute is willing to help with most expenditures should the student need to travel or acquire specific Pokémon/materials for their studies. It's not an uncommon occurrence for students to travel as far as Alola or Galar for the purpose of completing their thesis. While out performing field work, students are excused from classes provided they make up the missing coursework upon their return.
Hey there! Thanks for reading this far down! So the basic idea for this RP is that we'll be playing Pokémon Professors in training and making our way through the school year until graduation. Students can range from first to third years. All regions are allowed (Spin offs included). This rp will be application based. Character sheets will be rated on the quality of submissions. I'm a pretty laid back GM so here are a few ground rules:
1. We're all here to have fun. Don't be a jerk.
2. Don't make your character broken
3. If you join and have to leave for any reason, don't ghost the RP. Let us know if you're stepping away and whether or not you'll be re-joining us
4. No Legendary Pokémon on teams. Just no.
5. If you have any questions or need to settle a disagreement between players, GM will rule it.
6. All players will start in Pokémon Ecology 101 with Professor Birch. Why you're in this class is up to you. Are you a TA needing the credits, a first year taking their first steps, or perhaps a second/third year who skipped this class but needs it in order to graduate? This way, all characters will start in the same spot.
Whew! With all that out of the way, character sheets are posted below! Let's have some fun!
