Current I mean, some people want to do it for the reason it’s supposed to be for, but it being all but outright mandatory, well.

@Ricky: I never thought about it like that, but it really can be, huh? I checked out the Mormons for a stint, and I can 100% see that being a reason behind them pushing that.

Tricks them into thinking it was their choice, when it was structured for them to fail.

The Amish doing that strikes me as a psychological way to keep people there. Isolate them > send them out > get culture shock > return to the comfortable rather than figure out a foreign culture.

Ashifa: Shoving/forcing the religion on someone isn't what Christianity should be about. I'm sorry if/that that's what's going on for you.

It was so... kind of you to stop by.

Keeping an eye on Amy as she spoke, Zaylin shoved another forkful of food into her mouth, the topic of the conversation turning to one of greater interest than she anticipated. “Yeah, that’s not surprising,” she said after swallowing her food. “I imagine most parents shy away from sending their kids to schools where students get murdered.” She looked over as the other girl interjected her own comment, noting as Amy rolled her eyes and the lack of concern the other girl apparently had for the dead. “So, you’d always go to the lake, then?” Zaylin paused, debating on whether she should ask the question that begged for freedom. “Sorry if I shouldn’t ask this, so stop me if it’s inappropriate,” she began slowly, cautiously. “But did either of you… well… see her? The rumors are just insane, and I didn’t get a chance to look for any news clippings about it before I left home, so can’t sort truth from fiction.”

Yeah, I figured that much. Just thought I should check, all things considered. So, thanks for letting me know!
Question for you, my good GM and co-GM: would it even be possible for Faira to travel through the house's shadows, or would it stop her somehow?
Faira did what she could to help Little Ann to her shoulders and keep her steady. She glanced to Conna’Cel as he judged the percentage, giving him a dubious look. “Faira, are you sure you’re able to transport us all?” “No,” she groaned, surprised that the water around her chest did not pulse with each thud of her heart. “I got interrupted before I could do more than try with just my hand, but, unless you’ve got a better idea, it’s that or drown!” Her voice rose an octave as she said the last word. “I-if any of you are in, then hang onto me, just in case.” She extended one trembling hand toward Scarlet and Rosaline, and the other toward Conna’Cell, holding them just above the water. “I for one would rather take my chances with ‘shadow traveling.’” She inhaled as the water rose ever closer to her chin, giving the illusion of semi-weightlessness as the ends of her hair floated in the liquid around her. “You’ve got thirty seconds to decide!” she hissed, glad for the presence of her powers impatiently waiting for her command, begging to be used.
Movement from a table nearby caught Zaylin’s attention just before a boy she did not recognize requested an apple, which Luca tossed to him. She looked at Amy curiously as she noticed the girl turn her back toward another who sat at the table near them, taking a moment to glance at the girl who had caused Amy's reaction. Zaylin swallowed her mouthful of food and looked slowly from Amy to Luca. “I’ve heard about that murder... Not that the entire school doesn’t know about it, or anything." She paused. "You know,” -- she pointed the prongs of her fork toward Luca -- “I never did get your name.”

“Easy, now,” Faira placed a hand on the girl’s back. “I’ll do everything I can to get you back to your parents.” Faira bit her lower lip as the image of her own parents crossed her mind, before Scarlet reached out to Ann with a piece of candy. Faira eyed the woman suspiciously, but before she could warn the girl against taking the candy, Little Ann had already grabbed and placed it in her mouth. When Scarlet suddenly exclaimed in pain, she looked up, and her eyes widened slightly at the suddenly low ceiling and the new wall in place of where the hall had once extended. Turning her attention to the only open space, she jumped to her feet at the sound and sight that greeted her. She gasped and stepped back as the raging water consumed her shoes, her eyes on the rising murky wetness. She glanced up as Rosaline created a magic wall, and for a moment, Faira hoped they would be safe, at least for a time, but that lasted naught but a couple seconds before water began streaming in. Glancing to the frightened child, Faira picked her up as the waters threatened to rise above the girl’s head. Her breathing grew to near-hyperventilation as her back pressed against the wall and the water level continued to rise. “We need to get out of here!” “You think?” Faira shouted back in a squeak, her mind refusing to focus on little else beyond the threat of drowning. The gentle tingle of her magic ran through her panic, almost like a reminder of its existence. Like a wordless suggestion, the most recent experiment she had conducted with her powers came to mind. “Shadows,” she breathed, her words coming out in a rush, “I-I think I can travel through shadows, like portals. I haven’t tried it in full-scale yet, but…” She looked to the water, which had risen partially up her torso, and her words caught in her throat. She swallowed hard. “I took Ann with me when I transformed or whatever, so maybe…”
Zaylin walked in front of Amy to the table and sat down across from Amy. She let her bag slip from her shoulder to the floor as she sat her plate on the table. “No, I don’t recognize you from any of my classes, either. I’m a third year. You?” Jabbing a sausage with a fork as Amy addressed Luca, Zaylin paused, realizing she probably should not have mentioned anything regarding their lake-side meeting. She looked apologetically to Luca, before turning her attention to the breakfast plate before her.
