Current I'm a pretty good writer and former site staff; I still deal with imposter syndrome every time I log on. You're definitely not alone. And t's worth trying anyway.

I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

I'm left leaning. If only because Capitalism has no soul.

I'm right leaning. If only so I can keep my guns and get a smaller government.

I've been told I play excellent male characters(I'm female), but you do raise a good point. I think some people feel that some RPers just can't portray the opposite sex very well. However, without chances to practice there's no chance of improving.

Well. All males and females don't fall under universal rules of behavior. (Much as we, as people, want to generalize and say that they do.) So while I find many females writing males without much assertiveness to them and typically identify it as a negative, it's not like every guy I know is assertive. (Nor is it that females are never assertive.) Just so, I've found many a female character written by a male that seems to forget that females can be expressive and girly, and count that as a negative about their portrayal. (Not that all girls are expressive and/or enjoy something pink.)

Both those ARE two examples of generalized traits of the gender behind the character bleeding through into their opposite-gender character. And yeah, I imagine if you're focusing on romance that missing something you consider very much part of the opposite gender in your 1x1 game would be pretty damn disheartening and deflating.

I really don't see why it's such a big deal.

The 'big deal' is pretty subjective. I, personally, don't see it as a big deal. But I don't do 1x1s a lot. To me, they're usually lacking and bound to lose my interest quick-like.

But to someone who does 1x1s a lot, and finds half of their possible games off limits to them for their RL gender? Subjective as it is, I can see how that might qualify as 'big deal' to that person.

Empathy, MFer. Haz sum. =)
I was recently PMed and asked if I wanted to be in a game. (Hey, big news for me.) And while I had to decline (I'm a horrible person) due to not feeling as if I have the time/energy to be active in said RP, it did get me thinking about that RP. "Wouldn't it be neat if I the GM would call me in to write a one-shot short story arc for the game? Or even better!!--how cool would it be if fellow GMs I know called me in to play a villain or two for their game?"

So it breaks down into two; would you ever consider having a 'guest GM'? (Presumably one you enjoy working with and one whose writing you really enjoy.) Although I suppose the mechanics behind it would be no different than having a Co-GM who did a very specific contribution to the game. But then why make them an actual Co-GM? Why not just have them come in and let them write with the authority of a GM for the extent for their specific contribution?

The second is more focused; would you ever consider inviting a RPer into your game (presuming the same as the above) to do 'spot work'; a villain here, an NPC there? If so, why? If not, why not?! I'd absolutely love to do 'spot work' for other peoples games. Especially if life gets too busy to continue to GM my own games. But is there something I'm not taking into consideration, something I'm overlooking that would make this non-feasible?

Thanks!

Yeah I hope so.

Just remember if you don't see an interest check you like (which is hard if you're going through both Adv and Casual; but possible!) never be shy to PM a GM of a game already going that you like to see if that game has an open spot.

It took me months to figure this out. (Yes, I'm an idiot.)
Mm, Vogue.

Ohwait. You meant a different crappy mag.

The US group will be getting kicked off today or tomorrow. I know I'm HORRIBLE at production during the weekend, but I really want to try since the week was so crappy for me.

I hope everyone going to the US can survive explosions, and swim.
Good lord, let us know if you're still tuned into this game.

We'd rather it not go Dodo on us. =)
Iono. There's an argument to be made that not all males write good females, and not all females write good males.

But I think I write both pretty well, and I've been laughed at in PMs for asking to RP with a girl looking for male partners.

So, in a perfect RP world it wouldn't matter. But as I'm convinced Twain had the right of it; humans are the worst, and far from perfect. =)

Casual, to maybe light advanced.

Very cool. I'm sure you'll have a full RP dance card in no time flat. ;)
