Personality:The only thing that's become certain to those who inquire about the nature of the Lioness, is that it entirely depends on who you ask. Ask a member of the Sealord's court that was present during her time as First Sword, and they will say the woman is like the moon itself: beautiful and bright on one side, dark and mysterious on the other. Ask a Water Dancer who has clashed steel with the woman, and they will say she is an inhuman killer of men, cold and ruthless. Ask a pirate of the Dread Fleet, and they will likely say she is a woman as deadly with a manipulative whisper as she is with that 'cursed blade' in her hand—but damn can no one in the whole of Essos party like the Demon's Lioness.
Only few things are constant no matter the account of Celena Lannister: she is dangerous, she is lethal, and she is an adventurer at heart without an ounce of fear in her body.
History:A noble Lady of the West, a runaway, a slave, a pirate, a Water Dancer, and treasure hunter. If there's one unifying theme in the history of Celena Lannister, it's her fearlessness in rushing forth to meet the unknown, no matter the consequences. Given the chaos that resulted from the Dance of Dragons, and the subsequent internal conflicts of the West, facts on Lady Celena are hard to come by.
A daughter of a cadet branch of a cadet branch with a father gifted with rubbing two gold coins together to make three and an Essos born mother, life was always going to be an upward climb for Lady Celena. When her father's successes, and marriage, produced no shortage of enemies for the man in Lannisport the Lord went to great pains to move his young family just outside of the city. In retrospect, it was likely the only thing that kept Celena and her mother from the same blades that killed her Lord father in broad daylight.
It is known that the girl's mother went mad after the murder of her husband. What it isn't known, however, is just how long thereafter Lady Celena left her mother's manse and acquired passage across the Narrow Sea. Most accounts seem to agree this happened before her three and ten nameday. There is no information on Celena between her leaving Westeros and appearing in Braavos years later as a slave to a wealthy merchant prince of Braavos. The only source on Celena's enslavement is Celena Lannister herself, raising some doubt about the validity of the story.
But there are no doubts of what happened after: a chance encounter in the streets of Braavos after dark began the girl's life long obsession with the water dancers of Braavos. A group of bravos would slay her master, men of the Sealord's court would later recount the woman's telling of the tale, a random challenge for the bejewelled blade the merchant was fond of wearing, overestimating his own skill with the blade. Celena would be kicked her dead master's blade by one of the bravos. Knowing what would happen if she picked it up, Celena admitted to knowing better...not that knowing better had ever stopped her before.
Celena would claim it was luck that won her that fight, leaving the bravo dead and his friends laughing about his death at the hands of a mere girl. Years would pass between that scene and her ascension to the top of the Water Dancer ranks of Braavos. Years left blank and bare to those who would seek out information about them, in hopes of completing an understanding of the Lioness, or simply hoping to find something to use against the woman. It is known it was more than her skill as a Water Dancer that won her the position of First Sword, the lessons she'd learned in Westeros from the betrayal and murder of her father helping her immensely in Braavos.
Though widely considered a success beside the Sealord of Braavos, her legacy is blackmarked for the way she unceremoniously exited the post to follow the admiral of the Dread Fleet, Enki Dumazi. While many claim Celena became the man's lover, others dispute this on the basis that it is widely believed the Demon of the Dread Fleet was incapable of making love, while others point to rumors that Dumazi was fond of men, instead of women. With the Demon's death, it is unlikely the truth will ever be known.
Nothing else is known after the Demon's ship went missing after encountering a massive storm in the Smoking Sea. Scattered, vague, reports of the
Ravallah's red sails in the East are all any spy master has to go on after that, though some Red Priests from the Red Temple in Asshai claim the ship and it's new Captain, Celena, visited their temple asking after a Lannister King and his Valyrian blade as well as any information on the lost Targaryen tome
Signs and Portents. Whether the woman was successful in retrieving either treasure remains unknown to this day. The only firm knowledge is that two Red Priestess left the Red Temple, apparently paying for passage on the
Ravallah.
