Who came up with the idea to make our statuses quotes from philosophers, anyway?

We could be doing something productive with our lives... instead, we're here.

A random quote from some philosopher that we'll forget in a few moments.

@Prince of Seraphs how goes the progress on that first post? We don't want to keep people waiting and make them lose interest.

Who else is still here, btw?
So it's settled, then. To rule out confusion, we're simply going to use my version of how they work.

Not quite. When it loses its overlays, it's still in the game. The overshift happens when you try to detach something that isn't there.

Edit: Well, more specifically, when you try to activate an effect without the overlays. A phase shift monster can have its effect as long as it has overlays, but the moment those are used up the effect is negated and they retain the attack and defense of the last phase. Once you can activate one of their effects, gain the appropriate phase, and at the end of the turn you did that it is banished.

This explplanation here helped me make sense of Phase Shift monsters, though the part where effects are negated after the overlays are gone makes me think: if you are meant to detach the second willingly, then what is the point of doing so if the effects just get negated? The whole Overshifting part didn't make sense after that, so I opt to ignore the effect negation and merely stick with Phase Shift monsters just getting banished at the end phase. Does that sound good to you guys?
@Scarifar After losing both OLs they go into overshift, a state when one of their effects repeats. After that Overshift turn finishes, they are banished.

I think that right there was what lost me. What I said in my summary of their characteristics, though, explains it a bit better. Imo, at least.
So, I may not have (ever) understood exactly how Phase Shift Monsters works, so I will lay out a few things myself.

-Phase Shift Summoning requires an "A" monster and a "B" monster, and the two are used as overlays to Summon a Phase Shift Fusion monster whose level is the total of the two monsters used for the Phase Shift Summoning.
-Phase Shift monsters have a Phase A effect and a Phase B effect, as well as (usually) different ATK and DEF values for both phases.
-Phase Shift monsters can detach the card with the opposite phase any time they want during the Main Phase (except the turn they're Summoned). Ex. Phase Shift monster is Phase A, so it detaches the "B" to move to Phase B, and vice versa.
-Should a Phase Shift monster lose both overlays, they are banished during the End Phase.
-They can be resummoned from the banished pile at any time, assuming you have the overlays necessary to Summon them.

I think that's pretty much how they worked before, but I think this explains things rather well. Right?
@Jay Kalton the picture for your cs isn't working.

How did you two start with 6 cards when the normal amount is 5?

Perhaps there's ways to incorporate your original ideas somehow. If you take away the whole zombie part, the ability seems kind of similar to what my character, Rin does with her Psychometry. While I know that Seraph doesn't necessarily want duplicate powers, maybe you could apply that?

Like, biting someone allows Sam to go through their memories or something.

While it's certainly not impossible for this kind of power to exist, would you really want to rp someone who could do that? I mean, you're going to bite someone, and you get that person's memories. Not exactly the kinda thing that appeals to people. Well, at least not someone like me. I don't know about you, so I can't judge.

All I'm saying is, don't just decide on something without thinking about how it'll affect you in the long term. Trust me, I've had some rather uncomfortable experiences with that.
