<Snipped quote by VarionusNW>

I've not seen any proof that you do indeed exist. For all we know you are a super intelligent AI.

Varionus is a roleplayer, as we all are. Ergo, Varionus is wasting time doing things that do not equate to world domination. Likelihood of being a super intelligent AI = diminished.

Likelihood of being a super intelligent chatbot that met too many weird people = increased.
When I was in third grade, virtually all of my friends at school were heavy into Pokemon since it had just reached the United States at that time. They all bugged me to get into it, and it annoyed the fuck out of me. When I turned twenty one, everyone expected me to go get blazing drunk, and that annoyed the fuck out of me too. I wasn't mad or anything - people were just wanting to have fun - but to me it just felt like there were these rules everyone had decided on without my consent, and that if I didn't follow these rules somehow I wasn't having fun the right way. I could deal with there being rules for school, and later for work, but the idea that I had to follow some sacred code of fun turned me off of those things and made them seem like massive chores. Social media falls in the same category. I don't hate it, and I totally get why everyone else is into it (well, sort of), but it feels like all at once everyone decided we all have to enjoy social media or else we are weird. And deep down, in the pit of my stomach, my immediate reaction is to resent that, which keeps me from social mediaing.

I think, all things considering, I have some deep down desire in the back of my head to become some modern hermit. I mean really, my first reaction to working is resentment, my first reaction to hardcore partying is resentment... I think my path to happiness would be living out in the woods, eating squirrels, reading, and playing vidja. I'm like an eighty year old man or something.

This just... Yeah. Word, brother. Preach it.

(Except for me in the third grade it was Grand Theft Auto and Yu-Gi-Oh.)
What do you mean by evil magic?

I'll rephrase myself and then explain. I wasn't asking if there's evil magic, but if there's magic that's seen as evil. More specifically...

In the context of the setting, are there any kinds of magic which are broadly associated with negative concepts such as evil, wrongness, or generally are viewed as being wholly unacceptable in most societies in this setting / something which ought to be purged?

Basically, I want to know what the "forbidden" magics are, if there are any. I'm not assuming there is such a thing, but asking if there are. For instance, necromancy is typically seen as a "no-no" in most settings, and certain kinds of conjuration (summoning demons or C'thulu-realm beasties) would be seen as bad in others, etc. Are there any brands of magic which are seen in this light by most societies in this setting? And is there a reason why? (Or why not?)

After the Great Old Wars (The Raxas-Karnoras Civil War is lumped in with the G.O.W) there was a period of relative quiet. Everyone was too beat up to really do anything. Small Kingdoms emerged briefly-then were united under stronger warlords. Eventually becoming the modern Kingdoms. About 500 years have passed since the end of the Old Wars. The current 'mercenary' age as you put it falls somewhere in there.

Really good info, thanks!

First, let me say battles are not as tactical as you seem to think. There simply is no way for combat to be synthesized like that outside of doing a D&D style play-which I totally am not up for. There are still a lot of things to work out in combat, so I'm holding off on these questions for now. As it stands, both sides attack each other, check defenses and ability scores and deal damage simultaneously . Certain feats like First Shot can give a side the edge it needs to win in battle. I'll get back to you.

I'll wait for your answer, but that's the gist of it is me wanting to know things like...
  • How many rows of dudes could I have if I really wanted and still have the guys in the back fire?
  • Does the enemy's melee guy in the front row deal damage in the first round at the same time as my archer in the front row?

Just basic stuff that lets me know what to expect and lets me form my basic battle line that I can adjust slightly depending on if any information I get from the contract details is useful. For instance, I'd hate to put guys in the 5th row only to learn that the 5th row is too far away from combat to actually shoot anyone. (Not saying I'd do that, but it COULD happen.)

I assume the First Shot ability is actually very useful because, heck, that's damage that can kill guys before anyone's hits even make contact. Dead guys before the fight starts = less damage to your own guys. I just wanted to double check this stuff because other feats that crop up may make me have to chew on their value, etc.

The third series of questions is here. The votes will be begin to be tallied starting at 2 p.m. Central Time on 3/17.
The Age of Heroes

Though the Earth Tribe ruled justly and well, they were unable to defend themselves indefinitely against the evils of the world. The Dark Tribe, the Dorca Rithe, arose to tear down all that the Tuad Rithe had made. Soon the gods found themselves too busy defending themselves to keep a proper watch over all Urland.

The Thralls

As the Tuad Rithe could not protect all their people, they chose to bequeath the responsibility of protecting the weakest and most foreign of the clans onto others. These became the first thralls.

How did our ancestors take care of their charges?

  • We treated them as family, eventually freeing them all from their bondage.
  • We treated them fairly, letting them earn their freedom if they were worthy. @Lauder@Eklispe@Tracyarmav@Mardox
  • We treated them pragmatically, keeping as many as we needed to sow our fields and work our mines.
  • We treated them as animals, worth nothing but the work they could provide.

The Long War

The Dark Tribe's rise to power emboldened the enemies of the Urlandi, but it also made us desperate. Clans turned on each other as never before, and the wilderness began to creep ever closer.

How did we prepare for these dark times?

  • We raised the night watch, forever to keep the walls of our home lit.
  • We prayed for guidance and used faith to stay together.
  • We looked to our leaders for guidance.
  • We maintained good ties with our neighbors for safety against our foes. @Lexiconx2 @Tracyarmav
  • We struck first rather than waiting to be struck.

@Wernher's vote counts double in the next round.
PUT ME IN COACH

But who's the coach putting in with you?
Oh, it's definitely a problem. The devil's advocate in me can see how that might get confused, however, silly as it is.
<Snipped quote by Shorticus>

In my eyes, if you're putting an RP into the Nation section then there is no problem with using the Nation tag, hell you probably should have it in actual fact.

I'm talking about the RP that have nothing to do with RPing a Nation/anything-close-to-one and just put it in since all the players are in a fantasy nation/world. I seriously do not understand why people misuse the Nation tag so much, is it really that hard to use some common sense?

Oh. Yeah, that... Yeah.

Although I can definitely see how it'd happen. If you never poke around the Nation RP section, you may have NO IDEA what a Nation RP is all about, so you brand something with the Nation tag because... you think it means something it very much does not?

Just sounds like something people need to be prodded about each time they do it.
