They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Ryver et Rhine Only if you get hit with the shrapnel. Blood stream, not lungs. ^.^ I personally would have a frag grenade with lots of coated shrapnel for maximum effectiveness.

Hahha, could you imagine what would happen if she hit the Chrono?!

Amuné paled when Ethan said she should wait outside. Her mind knew that he meant just for a little, but her heart trembled at the thought. Still, maybe if she did as asked, he wouldn't think too hard about what had just happened. "Come, Wyth," she told the moorcat, heading with Cecil to the door. She focused on her feline friend, scratching behind the ears and managing to smile when he rewarded her action with a rumbling purr. The girl immediately looked up when the inn door opened, relieved to see it was Ethan. The man said Nymira was in the western part of town, but once again, he had no idea which way that was. But Cecil knew, and so the group headed that way.

The girl was worried. The Dimuran lady had seemed so strong, but there were bad men holding her prisoner. How long could she last? And then suddenly the Machina boy was stopping, as if he didn't know how to proceed. "What's wrong, Cecil? I don't understand what you mean," Amuné said, heading along the side of what to him was an obstacle. Going around seemed so obvious to her that she didn't really get what he was asking.

It took several minutes for them to get to the western part of town, even with the girl trying to discreetly hurry them along without making it too obvious. And then she saw it, a view that looked familiar. That building there, with the brightly colored door, she'd seen it from the bit of window in the room where Nymira was being held in her vision. Which meant...

"There!" She pointed to the buildings across the way from the view. One had several windows that were about right for what she'd seen. "Er...I mean, there, that'd be a good place to keep someone if you kidnapped them, right? We should check it out!"

@Ryver et Rhine@Rtron Well, okay, maybe we could help with the evac? But seriously, my two are not silly enough to think we can fight a Vile and win. If the Chrono sounds concerned, this is out of our league.

Still, you could persuade them to try. ^.^ I'm open to this.

@Xodus Well first off, you're only any good with weapons you've been trained to use. Depending on how long folks have been at Innocence, that might or might not be enough to be useful. The more powerful stuff probably isn't what you train with first. Secondly, a Chrono's orders say the students go to safety. So we're gonna go talk in the bunkers, and maybe dev some more character.

I was the same way, @xodus, but I've come to like the little splash of color for dialogue.

@Ryver et Rhine No. You're using dodger and steel. I'm using cornflower and slate.

Sparks and Bits are custom hex code colors.

6699FF for Sparks but cornflowerblue may be used.
8493ca /was/ for Bits but slateblue may be used.

some of those codes are invalid, such as Cornflower. It's actually cornflowerblue.

Outside with Team RPG

Sparks laughed at Kiara's words. ”I've actually never played DnD – that's a tabletop game, not a console or computer one. But if you're interested I'm sure we could try it sometime! As for party classes, well, there's a few standard ones. There's usually your fragile spellcaster, the dumb tank, the ranged fighter, and your sneaky thief. Depending on the system, there may be others – DPS – erm, damage per second is one for MMOs, and of course there's the healer class too, which is between tank and spellcaster in hit points, and how hard they can hit, both with casts and physically. A good party is balanced, of course, and each member has a role.” The boy chatted happily, answering any questions Kiara might have as he tried to simplify a great deal of knowledge into a basic lesson.

Bits felt it before her brother, and she paused, turning her head as she tried to pinpoint the source. The feeling of someone casting, but it was so strong! This can't be right, nobody uses this kind of Alchemy here, she thought, frowning and moving forward again to tap her brother on the shoulder. He nodded back – he felt it too, now, and was equally confused. Then Ms. Julie's voice sounded in their heads, telling them that they should get to the underground bunkers. Cams! Sparks thought. He would be in the cafeteria – and with the press, will he be okay? I hope he remembers the other route... Fortunately that other route started near the cafeteria, so he'd be able to hook up with Cams if they were lucky.
“C'mon, guys, I know a better way. Follow me!"

The group was just outside the door when the world exploded. Bits drew on her physical training and rolled as she hit the ground, gaining a couple bruises from debris but returning to her feet in short order. Sparks did similarly, though he wasn't nearly as good as his sister and couldn't roll to his feet smoothly as she could – especially with someone on him.. And now the young woman moved into her combat mode, putting her feelings aside and focusing on the task at hand. They had to get to the bunker, as Kiara said, and with the panic no doubt ensuing from the explosion of the cafeteria – They blew up the cafeteria?! – the alternate route Sparks had shown her would indeed be best. She looked at the little group around her. Kiara was getting up, and Omari was sitting on Sparks, who was trying to shove him off.
“Come,” she told them, waiting to make sure she had their attention before heading off at an angle, away from the.../thing/ that Ben had become, her sibling keeping pace at her side. Around the demolished cafeteria, and to the far side, where Sparks caught sight of a familiar head of pale hair.

“Cams!” Sparks waved at the younger boy to get his attention, his eyes immediately taking in the blood on his front, and worried expression. “Hey, are you hurt? Let's get to safety and then patch you up.” His friend wasn't the only one with blood on him. A redheaded girl was /covered/ in it, and she seemed banged up. And there was AJ too.

Bits' eyes lit on Cams when her brother called his name, but there wasn't time to worry about how badly injured he or those around him were. If they were mobile, they needed to move. “Hurry,” she told the group, both those that had followed her and the ones with Cam. “Come.”
Inn

Amuné immediately regretted her words when she saw Cecil's expression. "What, no, no! Not if they want to kill you, that'd be bad. Life is very precious, too precious to have a worth in things you can own." Her mommy always said that saving someone's life was equal to saving the entire world, or something like that. That was to be expected from a healer, of course, but the girl felt it was true.

And once again Ethan was showing his boundless optimism, and his naivity. "Not all bad people look bad," Amuné said her voice turning pensive. "Are you sure you'll be able to tell?" But really, she felt cheerful enough now that she was clean and waiting for food that, aside from her vague sense of forboding, she wasn't very worried. As she'd told Cecil, there was time enough to worry later on.

And then the food appeared, and all thoughts of worry fled. "Yay!" Amuné exclaimed, clapping her hands together. And so much of it! There was enough that even Wyth, who'd pricked his ears and adopted an expresson both wistful and put-upon at the sight, could have something. The girl took the piece of fish and held it out to her companion, who took it daintily with a noise of pleasure. Then she turned her attention to the plate Ethan set before her, piled high with goodies that smelled divine. And this time no one was going to make her drop it. She said a quick "thank you" to Ethan before grabbing her utensils and digging in with enthusiasm.

After the girl had eaten so much that she felt stuffed, and Ethan was done too, she looked around the room. "Where should we start?" she asked. "Can I see that picture Norman gave us?" Ethan held it out to her. Amuné began to take it, and froze. Her grey eyes widened, no longer focusing on the image but instead the vision that appeared before them. Nymira, in a dim room, her clothing tattered, her limbs chained to a pipe. A couple other people, looking down at her and laughing. One of them kicking the helpless woman, and she took the blow silently, just glaring up at the suited man.

Ethan and Cecil would see the girl suddenly go still, then after a moment suck in a breath and yank her hand away from the picture as if burned. "I...I think Cecil might have been right. We need to find her fast," Amuné said after a pause. She didn't want to say anything, but it was important they find Nymira before something bad happened -- or rather, anything worse. However, there was no sensible reason for rich business types to be taking people. Were they working with whoever was causing trouble for Magi? How could she give a clue without revealing her gift? "If...if she just up and vanished...um, maybe someone took her. I mean...." Amuné fumbled for the right way to say it, something helpful but not revealing.
