@Ojo chan 42 Ah, that's a good point. He's rather young, but if it's hereditary, I guess that works. ^.^ Except if females are so rare, then it'd go to whichever the oldest female is, if the leader has no female children but someone else in the herd does? And if there's no females at all, it's whoever the son of the old leader finds.

@LadyRunic Falk has issues. =P And since rulership among the fey is a matter of power, I would have thought there more to it than simply "those are /my/ toys, but someone else stole some and now oops, they got killed and now one is in charge." *shrug* I guess it goes to show that even the powerful Fall King can be petty.

@LadyRunic Very interesting. Unfortunately it makes little sense with what I already know. I'm not seeing why a Mara is such a threat, given how he acts. Ceridwen I could understand. And I most definitely don't understand the line about mortality, nor how mortality would save them -- or bring down Falk's anger, especially if it's his doing. @.@ so many questions.

A man had approached the group, and the party stopped again. Wyth's tail lashed. His girl was in trouble, and why wouldn't they hurry up and find her?! And then the Dimuran was back, and with someone new -- another Ydran. Was she going to help too? The cobra fox with her went right up to Ethan, and while Wyth didn't attack her, he moved to loom over her and show just enough fang to make it clear these were /his/ people, and he was protecting them.

“No?” The girl’s voice rose in concern, though she covered her eyes with her hands when Cain stabbed himself, looking a bit ill. Amuné accepted his hand willingly when he offered it, her grip tight with worry. She didn’t understand the details he said, but injury and not alright, that she understood. He needed a doctor, and she could show him the way. “Fitz, Kirk, James -- I’m going to take him to Dr. Max. I’ll see you later.”
“Right, lass, take care of your friend -- and I’ll take care of Kirk fer gettin’ too excited.” Fitz cuffed the protesting guard’s head. “You need ta be more careful, boyo. Cannae be getting careless like that.”

Amuné left the guards behind, tugging Cain’s hand so he would move at a fast walk. “Dr. Max is nice to everyone. ...You might intimidate him at first, though. I did. He wasn’t sure about me, but now we’re friends. He’s very sweet, but he’ll get angry if you don’t take care of yourself properly.” She led him towards the main building, through the halls that echoed with the sound of her footsteps, to the wing that held the infirmary. “Dr. Maaax!” the girl called, her voice thin with worry. Cain needed help -- and fast.

A man in his thirties poked a slightly disheveled head out of a door that seemed to lead to an office. “Amuné?” he stepped into the hall when he saw the child, but it only took a moment for him to realize she was not the one in trouble. “Amuné, take him to the first exam room, alright? I’ll be with you in just a moment.” He moved to another doorway and raised his voice. “Malie, we have a patient! Exam one, and be quick about it.” With that he vanished into another room. “He’ll take good care of you,” Amuné said softly, taking Cain to a pastel-painted room with an exam table and the various paraphernalia of a doctor’s office. Her brow was furrowed, and she couldn’t seem to stay still, pacing restlessly. “Does it hurt a lot? Can you breathe okay still?”

Amuné didn’t like watching the fight, but she couldn’t look away. From her guard friend she felt anger and unease. From Cain, nothing. She gasped when Kirk got thrown, and she wasn’t sure how to respond to her new friend kneeling before her. The guardsman was already getting to his feet, a rueful expression on his face, but the other man was choking and he was hurt. “You hurt him!” she said accusingly, glaring at Kirk as she went to Cain’s side. “Sorry lass -- cannae entirely avoid it. As well ye know, I think.” The girl flushed, but her focus stayed on making sure Cain was alright. Kirk moved a little closer, but he wasn’t sure his help would be welcome, and he didn’t seem to realize the man was having real trouble. “I did get ye better than I meant. My apologies.”

The child, however, was very upset. “Cain? Cain, are you okay? Can you get up? We should see the physician -- he can help!” He was having trouble breathing but he seemed so calm -- it confused and unnerved her, but mostly she just wanted to make sure he would be alright.

@TheMinorFall Ooh, this is not how I expected things to go. Hee! Guess Amune won't be stepping in yelling at Cain to stop...but we can have that happen in some other place. <3
