Current The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation.

They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@TheMinorFall Amune actually has zero idea where Kirk is. She's assuming. <3 He's untried and not seen any actual combat, so his position is not at the gate. Think Fitz might not be there either, actually. Doesn't mean anything has to change, though! *works on a post*

“Less efficient? Aye, mayhap. But ‘tis necessary, if you wish to understand others. And in truth, without sadness there can be no joy.” Fitz nodded at the girl, who was poking at her food and look incredibly guilty. “If you wish to understand her, you’ll need to know them,” he added, a shade softer. The guard was no fool, and he’d picked up on the connection between the two, though it seemed far stronger on Amuné’s end.

As Cain left to return his plate, the guardsman engaged the girl with some inane line of conversation. She’d said she’d patch things up with his brother tomorrow, and that was good enough. If she needed a little time to process, she could have it. After several carefully guided questions, he had her talking willingly once more, distracting her from the tension having so many people around brought.

And then came a thud and a boom, shaking the very ground. Moments later the alarm bell began to ring. Children fell silent, then started chattering in hushed excitement, others panicking. Guards and teachers got to their feet, going to their posts or working to maintain order.

Amuné turned pale as a sheet. “Kirk,” she whispered, leaping up and dashing off. She hadn’t apologized, she hadn’t apologized and something bad was happening, and if he died while they were fighting she’d never forgive herself. She slipped between the tables, dodging most of the students though she came close to colliding with a few. She had to find Kirk. She had to.

“Lass! Amuné!” Fitz rose as well, and made to follow her, but there were too many people for him to move nearly as fast as she. He cursed. “She’d going to get herself hurt!”
@PlatinumSkink "Ree-al-ih-tee". And "see". I suppose some variants of English might pronounce it differently, but for me they very much do rhyme. ^.^;; I didn't even think of that!
@Vena Sera Yeah, but I'm talking two weeks from now. =P Nonetheless, I hope things get sorted out for you soon!
Heads up, from the 3rd to the 13th I will be heading to visit my folks in Chicago, so I will probably not be able to post much. Certainly not as quickly as I usually do.
@TheMinorFall ahaha, the show? But that's only an hour. =P I'm playing FATE, so I won't be exactly free either (though I'd totally work on a post or two if you do), and I work tomorrow. Enjoy your show, and I'll see you probably tomorrow. <3
@TheMinorFall Then I'mma go to bed too. Raven will just have to wait for tomorrow for more posts from me. *pats the other gal she's rping with elsewhere* I shouldn't be letting her keep me up so late anyhow, but you were up too, and I don't work tomorrow, so...well. ^.^;; Nini~
@TheMinorFall We done then? Or you got time for one more? *wriggles about*
Amuné heard the words, but most of them slid past without registering. Panic filled her and radiated outwards, though her years of training and practice allowed her to maintain enough focus for combat. But the pain, the corruption, these connected, and they drove her to greater efforts. Whoever wanted in her mind, the wrongness clinging to them made it all the more important that she not grant them access.

Next to Jareth, the girl tensed, and a faint, high-pitched whine escaped her. Pain and terror twisted her face as her hands pressed against her head. "getoutgetoutgetout" It was a whispered litany, but though he looked around, he saw no visible cause. He could only assume it was something she sensed, or Saw, and the young man rested his hand on her hair.

Then Lya barged in, shouting. "I didn't do anything!" he cried, mistaking her words as directed at him.

-

Though she tried to gain purchase on the thoughts behind the attack, they repelled her attempts and slipped from her grasp. Amuné waited, cautiously stretching her senses outward to find out if they were truly gone or merely pretending. But a surge of power nearby demanded her attention and she folded herself back up and dropped into her body without bothering to be careful. Jareth was there. Jareth didn't fight, and he didn't have magic. He was there because of her, and she had to keep him safe.

-

The Seer rolled to her feet, drawing her knife in the process. She was disoriented from the rapid switch from mind to body, and her physical senses would take a moment to catch up. But she could feel Jareth, the solid, grounded presence with a faint hint of metal, and the other source of energy was bright and angry beyond, so she tried to move between them, relying on muscle memory to put knife in her hand and, if possible, defend for that vital moment. Something stopped her. Jareth was the only one close, but something held her, kept her from moving.

He'd caught her as she stood, one arm wrapping around the girl's shoulders, the other circling her waist. Lya was angry, yes, but she was defensive, and whatever his friend was picking up, she didn't seem properly aware of her surroundings. "Amuné, please. Whatever it is, it's not here right now." Jareth's voice was firm. He'd seen it before a few times, enough that he knew she would sort herself out soon enough. And indeed, her eyes cleared as she blinked, then looked around rapidly. "In my head, where is he? I felt it -- where, it was--" Her gaze fastened on Lya, then moved away. The woman was angry but not attacking, and while hers was the flare of energy that had made her rush back, thinking she had to fight, she was not yet a threat. It took a moment longer before the girl connected the two and lowered her weapon, with a soft word to Jareth, who nodded and let her go. She looked at Lya, uncertain but expectant.
