They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Mogtaki ah. Well, I'm not so good at getting hints. ^.^;; come out and say, next time, if you would. <3 I have a post for someone else to at least start when I get home but then I will write for Adelon.
...wait, are you asking for a post? Because I can post, if you want. Just say the word.
@Mogtaki I mean, everyone has posted since you last did. It's your turn, if you want it. If you discount you and Vena, and know not to wait on Scout, that leaves only me -- and I posted since you last did. =P
@Shoryu Magami hm, I suppose. But the sort of place you exist in, and grew up in, have huge effects on things like the way the character sees and interacts with the world. A character from our world probably would be baffled if confronted with, say, an actual elf, or a person that can light things on fire by looking at them. I guess it might not be more important, but I think the setting s always a character of sorts.
@Mogtaki I was waiting for you, since you last posted before me. ^.^;;
amiwlablab02 though I wouldn't call it a spam bot as it's not spamming, instead sticking to a reasonable post rate. =P
Been a crazy weekend. Should be able to get a post up by the end of tomorrow, if I can't do it tonight before bed.
CURSE IT refreshed the page and lost my half-post. Anyhow. @Shoryu Magami, I've seen the cosmos/existence done only once, but it was fun. Noice~

The delay was because I was looking for Character Calculus terms that I didn't manage to find, but basically I think that it is possible to have a story without (main) characters as such. Telling the story of a lake over time, or the movement of glaciers in the ice age, or the slow decline of a dying rural town, these would all work, because the setting itself is a character.

For that matter, while it might be possible to have a story in a black void, the void will have an effect on the characters, and they may not have started there -- thus the settings of their pasts are also important. If A is part of B, and also important on its own, I'd say A is more important that B. ^.^
@Shoryu Magami ...Are you pulling a Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri? With a sentient planet? *amused* Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that. There's...hm. Think it's by Anne McCaffery, The Powers That Be, that planet has a consciousness as well. And I vaguely recall other instances too. <3 It's a fun idea to play with.

In terms of importance, I mean that, while it might be possible to have a story without a certain character, it is /never/ possible to have a story without a setting and a background for where a character come from. Thus, the character of their world is part of a fully-developed character, and if A exists on its own and is /part/ of B too, I'd say A is more important. ...This even goes for if you have the setting of a black void, because you'd better believe that's gonna freak some people out. And did they grow up there? Is it all they've ever known? Or did they suddenly find themselves there? And so on.

Also I keep getting double-notifications from you, thinking someone's pinged me with a post, and invariably being disappointed. =/ Why?! *flailing*
Right, in order:

Ehh, Iunno if I want /having/ to seek out Owner to be a thing...or...hm. Well, I could perhaps see him having a collection of books and possibly artifacts. Maybe one of these is needed. That would be acceptable. <3

Phoenix was never a fan of the fighting, but Owner did get involved -- partly to keep things safe for her, after they met. Though I think he mellowed once meeting her too. Before that he was considerably less benevolent, and might've even been a bit malicious -- or at least a trickster. I keep thinking he's some sort of very old fey. Definitely ancient, on the order of millennia. Dunno if he's older than Ket, dunno that it matters.

I think instead of getting saved while in a fight, he was a neutral party by then. Phoenix has been sleeping/in a coma for ages now, but it's possible that Owner ended up somewhere in trouble -- ooh, maybe he tried to get involved when she said he shouldn't, and that's why he ended up needing saving?! ...Yeah, that might work. So not too long after she was injured, and when he was moving from involved to the sidelines. So he has been keeping an eye on Ket for a long time, yes. Think he might keep an eye on Seers in general. I feel like Phoenix may have a connection to a lot of them, or at least tend to notice them more.

Yee, Kabuto could easily get another Seer. Kel, the girl Amune keeps remembering, is the other Seer she mentioned, but also quite dead at this point. If reincarnation is a thing, having Kel's new self would knock Amune away from pragmatism very quickly. You've said that Amune is exceptionally powerful for a Seer, so I'll go with that. But I don't know if a Seer to Seer connection would be possible at range, save for the strongest. ...Perhaps instead, a telepath/empath of some kind? Someone with magic pertaining to the mind. This would justify both connection, and also why Amune gets freaked so easily (though really, anyone in her head get a major negative reaction, and anyone threatening her mind or even brushing past her barriers will make her bristle.)

AHAHA and that is precisely why the Phoenix doesn't get involved much either. Or rather, doesn't let Owner get involved much either. <3 Phoenix herself didn't like being involved, particularly since she didn't stay dead but others did. And because she could see how a lot of her actions would make things worse. I suspect there's a number of beings that make things worse just by being involved. Like...automatic escalation, so even if the good guys win, the collateral damage is much higher.

I do want Jareth to find out he has minor magic at some point. It's really nothing special, and probably can't be used offensively without serious creativity -- w4e'll see what he thinks of. But machinery and electronics are another matter.

And I still want Amune to lose her fingers, if only because having her under the influence of drugs and unhinging her in that way is fun. <3 It also allows people to see just how bad losing control is for her. It'll be worse in this setting than it was last time around, because I hadn't figured out all of her past at that point, not realized just how messed up she is. She keeps insisting she's fine even in my head. <3 But yeah, she'll be crazed, and almost certainly is going to try to gouge her eyes out, so there's that. I think having someone completely undo the effects is a bit cheap -- maybe if Tsitua does like he did last time, he can get most but not all, so there's still minor effects. Then you'll get to see a few other destructive coping skills. ^.^
