They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Redthorn Anvil I'm not actually a tumblrite, though I do have a blog. Somewhere. Mostly I lurk and follow people I really like or who inspire my art/writing/whatever. But I see a lot of tumblr threads captured as images and posted on this geek group I'm in on FB, among other places...so yeah. It's a good way to separate the wheat from the chaff without having to go anywhere near the chaff in the first place. ^.^;;

I think I agree, supermeta is probably a bit much. But nothing wrong with leaning on the fourth wall. Also I nominate Jenny Everywhere to be a character for no other reason than that I like her. Look her up. <3

In a more thematic sense, you could totally have Plot be a force in the setting, as in Sire or Mercedes Lackey's 100 Kingdoms series. Seriously, go read a bit of Sire, starting when they reach the Legacy Haven or wherever it is.

Ooh, another idea is magic in a modern setting -- paired closely with computer programming. Not quite cyberpunk, but not really magitech either. Sorry, random thought.

I'm tempted to offer up my cat char, Shroedinger, but...well I'm torn on that. He's very much mine. ...Then again, I suppose being in a state of wanting yet not wanting is entirely apropos when it comes to him. <3

I am indeed a lady. Well. Lady might be a bit much? I'm a she. And I know "they" is technically grammatically incorrect by established standards, but standards to have to change with the times, and I feel weird saying "he" when I don't know. Using "one" gets stuffy really fast, so I generally default to "they". Unless, y'know. I make a mostly-arbitrary assumption and go with it until corrected. ^.^;;
@Shoryu Magami ...oh derp.
@Shoryu Magami PMs are a thing, though still vulnerable to hacking. Just like everything else. *shrug* I have email and skype, both of which I'd be happy to give you if you use them. I don't even know your username on discord.
@Shoryu Magami *grumbles* It's more it doesn't work on my kindle, is yet /another/ program I have to run on an already finicky computer, and doesn't display much actual discussion for how much space the window takes up.
@Shoryu Magami That'd be lovely -- if I used discord. =P but I collect good ideas. I have a collection of random ideas and tumblr posts and stuff.
@Redthorn Anvil Okay, firstly, I love the idea of Meta. I mean, reader as a character? Breaking the fourth wall? ...Setting it all in the land of the written word and having there be a Narrator character and a Muse character and maybe even an Author character -- or multiple Authors who squabble about which way to go with things? <3 I may be very fond of this. There's a 2ep arc of Humanity has Declined that does this, and my first win for NaNo was this, plus Deadpool does it, and there's a couple characters people I know play that do this in the best way. Also I have one that is genre savvy and bends physics so hard they have kinks. Also the Maxwell's demon character in Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff, and then the place he's from in Witch Doctor. Just...yes please? I have all sorts of ideas to use for this, though not that many for a plot to go with it.

Um. Genre. I like genre mixing. Fantasy of all sorts, a bit of horror, some mystery, a bit of scifi or even just slightly after modern-era stuff. Functional magic is great. Steampunk, dieselpunk, cyberpunk...isn't there something like atompunk? whatever, that's all neat. What else. Anything literary. OH. Right, for more 4th wall shenanigans, read Sire the webcomic, also by Alexis Royce (did I say she's amazing? Because she is, very). I also like deconstructing tropes, subverting tropes, and reinterpreting old ideas. For example, have the love interest...never be interested. It's unrequited love at its finest. And no finding someone else to switch affections to! Or perhaps it's a pretty Really 700 person and they've been kept alive through unnatural means and they are really ready to move on, so you end with them being freed and getting to die, and it's a gesture of selfless love. ...I may have a story idea with that. Or where someone kills a dragon, but it's by accident and that's a problem. Also have half a story like that. A designated hero who's a total coward, or who decides working with the bad guys pays better. I actually have a collection of tumblr posts with ideas for stories and such. Like instead of the Chosen One being some teen, make it an elderly grandma and she goes off with her three cats and a frazzled aid that makes sure she takes her pills on time. ...I'm rambling. Sorry, it's been a long day and I'm on an adrenaline high plus also pretty tired. x.x Anyhow, you get the idea. <3

@pugbutter you may be best girl but I am cutest crazy. <3 And I sound like a kid half the time, at least in terms of enthusiasm. ^.^
@pugbutter I do all the things. Scifi is a form of fantasy with very low magic, and post-apoc is fantasy in the monsters and horror in the ideas. Also my favorite group is just finishing our third year of a campaign set 200 years into the future following a nuclear war that came after the conclusion of our last rp. Not very apocalyptic anymore, but definitely a lot of NUKES ARE BAD. And stringent radiation safety regs. Also, as I said, there's a Zone from the meltdown of a magical nuclear power plant that directly mimics the Chernobyl Zone in the STALKER games, complete with magical blowouts. My concern is less the setting and more do I want that much grit. <3

And, having taken another look, I think you've gone a bit darker than I like, and with none of my favorite bright spots to balance it out, so I am going to pass. Still, thanks for the ping!
