In limbo since you haven't rejected nor accepted me, boss.
The silence hung heavy in the air as a leaf fell from its high perch in the canopy. Illuminated by the rays of the sun through the gaps in the branches, it was guided by the soft brushes of a light, encouraging draft, and kept aloft by the breeze. The unassuming object, cut off from its parent, glided past the rough bark of ancient, towering trees, dozens and dozens of them, before, as it fell lower and lower, it found less of the wind to keep itself afloat. Nature’s breath did not breathe this much amongst the lowly brush cowering in the shadow of the venerable trees, and so it rested at the shaggy green head of a random bush. But then, against the backdrop of some random bird’s shrill song, the bush rustled lightly and shook. Encouraged to fall, a stranger came to take the place of the leaf: a little glint of the darkness that smelled faintly of blood, a hook-shaped greyness that continued to disturb the bush as it hovered by the barest of millimeters forward. With time, the object escaped the shadows of the immediate forest, and it took on the shape of a nocked arrow. And it fired. At the sudden sound, its eye shone for a quick moment in surprise, the muscles in its neck contracting to rear its head so it could look in the direction of the threat. However, the arrow severed them in the next instance, and embedded itself deeply into its rich, crimson flesh. The deer fell with a resounding thud, and the anonymous bird from before meekly halted its song. The bush rattled furiously as some of its twigs were unintentionally snapped by a smiling young man who stepped out forth into the clearing.I know it looks and sounds pretty pretentious, this method of quality control, but this is what I can come up. So if you're interested, please plop down a post or two here and we'll get to judging.
They sound pretty cool to me, really.Thank you. But we all know that something without stimulation ends up in stagnation. The Technocracy cannot be alone all the time. So, if @The Patriarch is willing, we can have a counterpart civilization to contest and rival the Technocracy, maybe an underground Ratman city-state called Shoden or something. Both sides hate each other beyond unpardonable levels, and the warzones of tunnels and caverns keep the Technocrat Military in tip-top shape, and also keep the Ratman population to relatively manageable levels for both sides. Ancient relics of power hum and whisper from the depths of Shoden, artifacts which the knowledge-loving Technocracy wants to take, study and exploit. The Ratmen know of a future beyond the dark and the cramped and desire a way towards the surface. But they no longer fight for these reasons alone. Trespasses against the other since first contact have piled up into a mountain of hate. At this point, they kill simply because they can. In addition, both sides have to contend with troglodytes, trolls and the occasional angry spirit or some other magical being locked up underground since the dawn of creation. Yeah, this is coming together pretty nicely.
They've got a kind of 14th-century magitech going on (I kind of wanna get rid of the steam engineering), but are quite isolated. The paths leading to their civilization are dangerous mountain trails shrouded in forests full of trolls and other undesirables, such that, when cartographers make their maps, they're often depicted at some remote corner and symbolized by a dragon or some other fantastical beast since common misconception is that they're a land of nothing but magical creatures or lost spirits. It's kind of like Presbyter John in IRL Medieval culture, except not as popular, and regarded with more suspicion and fear than a desire to go see them. Sometimes, there's an adventurer or two that manages to make it but they just get denied at the gates, and if they're alien-looking enough (orcs and drows, if we have them), just get shot by the sentries with no warning. They're an isolationist and xenophobic nation whose dealings with foreigners are rare and often come only from the explorer parties they send every now and then. Militarily, they can only field about a handful thousand men without mobilizing the citizen militia, a move that is sustained by the food stocks until the people need to get back to farming. Plate armor and muskets are common amongst the regular army, but not in the public armories where citizens, should the need arise, get their weaponry. Lacking cavalry, they've got a pike-and-shot thing going on, and are superb in mountainous terrain. That any good?Pretty much my view on the thing. I mean, as long as it's just one small human civilization, and it's still pretty lowtech and primitive firearms it should be okay.@SillyGoy, Hmm, muskets and steam engines... I'm not sure what I think about that. Personally I was hoping for something less technological. But I'm not the only one that gets to decide. What do the rest of you guys think? And we can split the humans up between us. I think more than one player would like to have a go at them. But we need some guidelines. As I've written in the game thread, my hope was that humans could be somewhat primitive and "new" compared to the other races. They would be dependent on or fearful of their peers. But, again, that's my private vision, and I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.Really, I feel like that would greatly depend on the humans location and environment. After all, we vary a whole lot in real life too. ^^; With something like this, where there's so many people contributing and we have a lot of land to work with, it shouldn't be too hard to allow for a lot of different visions of humans.
