Appearance: Elian stands around 5’ 6”, with a relatively lean figure. Their skintone is a bronzed olive and their hair is near-black, kept short at the sides. Elian’s eyes are dark brown, just a few shades lighter than their locks. Typically, they’re seen wearing the sable uniform of Sagewick’s intelligence branch. A white silk girdle at their waist indicates previous military service.
Background: Elian was born a citizen of Sagewick and heir to a family of low-ranking nobility. Growing up, life was comfortable, though House Melchior did not have everything handed to them on a silver platter, as some of the more wealthy houses did. The Melchiors’ wealth came principally from raising horses and cattle, and Elian quickly learned how to care for these animals and lend a hand around the property. Not long after they learned to walk, in fact, did Elian start riding ponies, and then horses soon after.
As it were, many of the Melchiors’ horses were destined to be sold as mounts to Sagewick’s Black Army, necessitated by the wars on Shdowpine. Elian often had to act as an intermediary between their house and military officials in these dealings. Eventually, the war demanded an influx of recruits. Rather than spend the rest of their life tending to stables, Elian decided to fulfil their duty to the kingdom, and enlisted.
Elian spent five years in the Black Army, in which it conducted a series of offensive actions against Shdowpine. These maneuvers were of greater scale than had been seen in decades, steadily pushing the theoretical border farther and farther from Sagewick proper. Though they did not see much action on the front lines, Elian participated in a number of skirmishes and sieges directed at forts and camps. Most of their duties were of a logistical nature - guarding supply lines, constructing fortifications, running messages and so on.
As Elian’s five-year tour of duty came to a close, they were approached by an officer serving Sagewick’s intelligence branch with a proposition for recruitment. Their experience, it was said, could be put to good use at the branch: a career more fulfilling than keeping horses for the rest of their life. Elian agreed, and underwent training for several months prior to their instatement as an intelligence officer.
Two years afterwards, Elian was involved with operations concerning revolts in territory that had been captured from Shdowpine during the warring. As a field officer, they were among the personnel stationed in these “hot zones,” gathering information and investigating suspect individuals. As it turned out, a group of separatists had managed to capture a dragon and planned to turn it loose on local Sagewick personnel. Weeks of careful planning and intelligence gathering resulted in an operation to snuff this separatist cell and bring the dragon under control.
Elian and a number of choice men at arms conducted a raid on the target location. In a swift blow, the cell was rounded up; its members either killed or arrested. A thorough search of their den revealed a massive cage and a malnourished, half-crazed magnus dragon within. Elian led the effort to recover the creature and bring it back to the capital. During the transit, Elian incidentally touched a hand to the weakened dragon’s muzzle, and a burst of emotions, memories, and thoughts invaded their mind. Initially shocked by the phenomenon, Elian maintained physical contact for brief periods over the journey, and began to realise they were receiving snippets of the dragon’s mind, made disorganized and frantic by the state it was left in.
Eventually, the dragon was brought into proper custody and care. Elian, was lauded, receiving credit for the elimination of the cell and the recovery of one of Sagewick’s “national dragons.” A number of months following their return to the capital, Elian was summoned to a dragon rearing facility by an ambiguous contact. To their surprise, the very dragon they had saved greeted them, healthy and sound of mind. For their act of goodwill, the dragon, introducing itself as Meziot, pledged loyalty to Elian, fate having brought Listener and dragon together.
Nearly a year has passed since the raid, though Elian has only been a Listener for several months. In that span of time, they and Meziot have strengthened their bond, though have only scratched the surface of their potential. Meziot’s capabilities are invaluable to Elian’s intelligence duties, and their role as Listener gives them significant prestige within the branch.
Strengths:》 Shrewd, analytical. Elian has an eye for detail and a knack for problem solving.

》 Perseverance. Elian makes it a point to finish what they start, persisting in the face of obstacles.
Weaknesses:》 Nationalism. Elian’s service to their kingdom has given them somewhat of a skewed perspective and dismissive attitude towards others, especially Shdowpine.

Meziot

Appearance: Meziot’s body is sheathed in spectacular white-gold scales. The membrane of her wings forms a giant star-like pattern when unfurled. A pair of sturdy horns protrude above her eyes, which shine like amber.
In human form, she appears as a young woman somewhere between her late teens and twenties. Her facial features are sharp and angular, symmetrical and attractive. Meziot’s human form stands a little taller than Elian, and is more robust and muscular, though distinctly feminine. Her hair is a near-white blonde. Like Elian, she wears an intelligence officer’s uniform when the pair are on-duty. Otherwise, she prefers to be bare, as she would be in dragon form.
Background: Meziot has yet to reach full maturity, being only 141 years of age. She is loathe to reveal the details of her capture by Shdowpine separatists; even Elian has only an inkling of the story. Meziot has called Sagewick home for all of her life and theorizes her ancestors settled there of their own volition after the last Great War. She was never “domesticated” prior to her capture, and lived in the wilds of western Sagewick. Occasionally, she made ventures to settlements in human form. After Meziot’s rescue and subsequent recovery, she pledged herself to Elian’s service.
Strengths:》 Confidence. Meziot is sure of herself (sometimes too much so), and is always willing to step up to the plate in time of need.
》 Apathy. When Elian falls into doubt or lacks conviction, Meziot is there to give a word of encouragement and a slap on the back.
》 Vitality. When the going gets tough, Meziot gets going.
Weaknesses:》 Haughty. Meziot has the vanity typical of magnus dragons and carries herself highly above humans, save for Elian.
》 Impulsive. Meziot has a habit of acting on impulse and following her gut, which has gotten her into just as much trouble as it has gotten her out of it.
