Current There's a big old heat wave spreading out down here. If I'm slow with responses, it'll be because I'm melting.

The wooper rolls onto it back, smiling as it sees a pink pokemon arive in its vicinity. A friend had arrived, so he was happy. He tried to get up to greet the friend - a futile effort given the lack of arms and a heavy head. Nevertheless, try it did, heaving up and down in the sand. Perhaps a helping hand would be in order.

Meanwhile, its master paraded back up the beach with a heavy fishing pole. Spying his friends nearby, Sean started waving enthusiastically as he thundered up the beach.
"Hey guys!" The boy said, as if oblivious to the magikarp floundering helplessly on the end of his line.
He skidded to a stop just in front of the group.
"Hey, let it get a peep of this." He said, holding up the magikarp by the hook in the fish's mouth. "Can you check what moves it has?"

Indeed, Sean had to agree that this new device was, in fact, pretty cool. In fact, he was of half a mind to test it right now. But how to do it? Sean stared at the red device in his hand before coming to a realisation.
"I'll be right back." He said, without explanation.

The dark haired boy turned and ran towards the beach. His wooper, still smiling from being admired by Shin, turned to look at his master as he went. It waddled towards him in an attempt to follow, hobbling for a few steps begote falling face first into the fine sand. It made no attempt to get up.
Name: Sean Conway
Age: 12
Appearance: Wave dark hair, slightly scrawny, grey eyes. Usually wears swimming trunks and whatever shirts his mom gets him.
Key item: Old rod

Personality: Sean is quite airheaded and is usually off in his own little world. He seems rather irresponsible, though he has his own sense of responsiblity. As whimsical as he is, it's quite easy to change his mind as he jumps from one thought to the other. Quite a simple boy, he can come off as somewhat immature given his age, but he is simply doing as his heart tells him to do.

History: Sean's family is the wandering type, never settling down for very long. His father is a fisherman, and the young Sean would often accompany him on his fishing trips. At a certain point in time, his father decided that it was time for the boy to catch his own fish, giving him an old rod of his. Sean immediately hooked the rod with the closest bait he had to hand - one of his own socks. To his father's surprise, he actually caught something. A wooper, which the young boy christened "Woop". A rather uncreative name by any measure, his father noted, and the amphibian in question seemed to agree as it only ever seemed to respond to the name half the time. Nevertheless the two formed an inseperable bond. Sean would go from place to place and Woop would follow him, slowly.

Eventually, the family settled in the Sinnoh region. His father had found some stable work there and they bought a house to live in by the sea. Sean settled with them, met some people, made some friends. Sometimes he played with them and sometimes he didn't, he came and went like the ocean waves. But if they ever got into mischief, he was always there, ready to go. And their latest adventure is no exception.

Misc: Used to let Woop out of the pokeball often, but after getting him lost several times, Sean has learned to be more careful.
Alright, there's the first IC post, feel free to jump in. You can already be in Sandgem town or come into sandgem, or maybe we can run into you later in some other town if you really feel like it. Up to you.
The door to Professor Rowan's lab opened, revealing a researcher with a red device in his hands.
"Ah, Shin, you're here!" He said excitedly.
He hands over the device.
"Sorry about this, Shin. Professor Rowan was called away on urgent business so he couldn't be here today. Let me teach you how to use the Pokedex."
The researcher points out the many buttons on the pokedex and what they do, giving some basic pointers on how it worked. It gave the user detailed information on pokemon they caught, listing where they could be caught, average size and weight, and more.
"Professor Rowan went to Eterna City, he said he'll be there a while so you might be able to meet him there. We're looking forward to how you'll do, but don't feel too pressured, ok? Take it at your own pace." The researcher said reassuringly.
With that, he closed the door.

The sun bore down on Sandgem town, reflecting off the white buildings surrounding the research lab. The sound of the waves drifted over with the wind, carrying with it the everpresent smell of sea salt. A good day for a stroll, a picnic, or maybe, a little spot of adventure. But first of all, there was the matter of informing friends...

A boy plodded up from the beach, wearing swimming trunks and a blue shirt with a pikachu emblazoned on the front. He carried an old fishing rod on his shoulder as a Wooper trailed behind him. Looking up, he suddenly noticed his friend.
"Oh, hey Shin. What'cha got there?" Sean asked.

I'd appreciate it if you only had 1 pokemon to start with but it probably won't matter that much in the long run. So, you're good to move it to the character tab.
So, do all our characters know each other/are friends?

Yup, friends with Shin at the very least.

So, when we getting started?

I'll get the IC started soonish, I'd say in about 2 days. I'll be busy for the next 48 hours roughly but after that I'm in the clear.
Changed my mind a bit.

Here's the OOC: roleplayerguild.com/topics/188133-pok…
Feel free to move your characters over to the characters tab, or just continue working on your sheets if you're not done yet. I'll make the first IC post soonish, so I hope you can get them in before that happens, but after the first post comes up is fine too.

Oh right, added a couple of sections to the first post so you might want to go over it again real quick.
A long Holiday, a large dream

Trainer school is over for the year and you've just started enjoying a long summer break. You and your friends decide to on a simple goal - catch them all. There's an issue, however. 1 Pokedex, to share. A diverse cast combines forces to catch all the pokemon in the region, combining their tools in order to explore every nook and cranny of the world, to see everything there is to see and catch everything catchable. Will they make it in time before training school starts again? Or will their dreams be dashed by the dastardly Team Rocket? Only time will tell what's in store for these young heroes!

THE BASICS
The idea is that there's only one of any given key item - the pokedex, fishing rods, TM case, etc. It's not as if there isn't any other of those things in the world but when we begin that's all the group will have. So they'll have to deligate usage of certain tools efficiently, and plan around where they want to go. As the group explores the region they can also tackle the various gyms littering the region, and you may have an opportunity to take a crack at being the Pokemon League Champion.

THE REGION
The RP takes place in the large and varied Sinnoh region! Packed to the brim with gyms, concert halls and more, with the added complexity of the Sinnoh underground, there's no telling what our rascally group will find in this wide ranging land.

THE ENEMIES
Team Galactic was taken care of a little while ago through a concerted effort by the Pokemon League and various independent trainers. In response to the resulting power vacuum, Team Rocket established a foothold in the region. The Pokemon League is attempting to deal with them but they have proved quite difficult to catch thus far.

LEGENDARIES
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To be decided later.

KEY ITEMS AVAILABLE
  • Pokedex
  • Old rod
  • TM case
  • Poffin case
  • Sprayduck
  • Other stuff potentially

GYMS AND CONTESTS
Trainers are encouraged to tackle the Pokemon Gyms in any order, as the Gym leaders train and keep different sets of pokemon to compensate for the varying levels of challengers they face. If a trainer completes the Gym challenge they will receive the Gym badge for their efforts and a TM from the Gym Leader's personal stock. Contests are run and rewarded as usual, but a cash prize has been added for top performers in the contest, in order to incentivise trainer participation.

THE RULES OF COMBAT

TRADING
Trainers may choose to imprint pokeballs with their fingerprint in order to prevent theft. If an un-imprinted user tries to open the pokeball, they will fail. Trading occurs when 2 trainers erase their imprints and pass the pokemon to each other. Trading via computer in the pokemon center does this automatically. There are ways to erase imprints in non-destructive ways but the machinery required is heavily restricted by the Pokemon League and will generally not be used unless extreme circumstances call for it.

OOC RULES
The basics. Be respectful, polite, etc. I don't mind an argument, but if it's getting long take it to the PMs or something. You all know what to do. Oh, but the most important rule is no Meta-gaming. Things that are reasonable for your character to know are fine, but RPing things they don't know is part of the fun. If you're cracking open Bulbapedia every 5 minutes then there's not much of a point in the fact that we only have one Pokedex.

POSTING SPEED
Whatever floats your boat. Post what you think is enough, post more if you feel you need it. Leave some room for others to maneuver and everything will be ok.

SHEET
Some caveats before we start. The age of your character should be about 10-12, maybe a bit lower if you want but if you want to play higher you better run it by me. Teenagers are unfortunately not dumb enough to think that catching them all is achievable, so I'm hesitant to have them. As for starter pokemon, there's not many limits. Doesn't matter if it's a starter or if it's from another region, if you can reasonably say you have it then you can have it. That definitely excludes legendaries, so don't even try. For the appearance, an image or a description is ok. We'll pretty much be taking moves straight from Bulbapedia so keep that in mind.

QUICK CHARACTER SHEET
@Darkmoon Angel When you're done with your sheet I'll start on the OOC, but don't feel the need to rush on my part.
