It's fun though. It isn't any good to be a part of existence and not stay at least somewhat up to date on key events.
Speaking of, after reading through the whole section of the Nemid fight, the Outside and Scales has given me a few ideas on how non-dimensional space fits into existence.
Legit though I haven't been lurking here for a short while because I didn't see reply chan mention me, so it'll take me a hot second or two to get myself caught up.
As they approached the tree, Nira considered their little uneventful journey to be a fragile blessing. It was obvious that most critters wouldn't be wandering around with so many goblins nearby, but with the greenskin's shambling formations moving away from them, that temporary tension would soon dissolve. Looking up at the tree, Nira admired the sheer scale and health of it in comparison to her current size. It's impact might have been reduced if she had still been human sized, but she couldn't have denied the atmosphere it held regardless.
Speaking of, the presence she felt just by being near the tree unnerved her. For something this beautiful and (relatively) grand to have such a sense of danger surrounding it set off more then just a few alarm bells in her head. That kind of contrast was not something you just ignored, especially when your instincts tell you not to touch something. So when Femus whispered to her about disturbing as little as possible, Nira nodded in total agreement. Keeping both an eye and an ear out as she considered what to do, she was glad to hear Femus asking a question. In her opinion, there was no way she was staying at ground level around this tree.
"I think we should give it a shot. I'm not exactly comfortable with the idea of being trapped at ground level should something find us in one of those burrows, especially when you're evolving."
Nodding as an acknowledgement, it took Nira a moment to realize that Femus wasn't moving right after he had finished speaking. It was mildly surprising after already seeing him take action more often then not, but she didn't have the time to recognize that his tone of voice and this were a sign of uncertainty.
Taking the lead, Nira activated Muffle I almost as second nature and looked for the closest trees that would provide better cover before taking off at a moderate pace away from the goblins line of sight. She neither wanted to move too fast to follow, or fast enough to attract attention.
"I gained another level but the system gave me a warning. My body can't delay 'evolution' for much longer."
Hearing this and the rest of what Femus had to say snapped Nira's concentration off of her current concerns, giving her a moment to deeply process what had just been said. Thinking quickly she realised that evolution was a thing here, and it was something that couldn't be delayed at some point. Most likely then not it was fair to assume that it was tied to one's level, given how Femus had phrased his sentence.
This was useful information and it was tempting her to think through other stuff she hadn't had the time to process, but she soon snapped her attention back to the moment to keep her attention from going off on a tangent. Having taken her mind off of the current problem for a second though, Nira felt a little calmer. If Femus were to 'evolve' right now, it would likely give them a slight advantage. But at the same time, they really didn't know how long it would take even though Femus's insight was probably right. Deciding to split the difference, she responded.
"I think your hunch is right, but for now we should at least get a little farther away before you 'evolve', just to reduce our chances of being spotted. If we can see them, it's likely that they'll eventually see us. Maybe we can move a tree or two over towards the big tree?"
It was one thing to wake up on a tree branch with the knowledge you were still far removed from the world you knew, but it was quite another for Nira to wake up and notice a herd of goblins within eyesight. The moment her brain fully processed this unusual occurrence, it kicked into high gear and she did her best to stay out of sight, not quite sure if she was in any danger or not. Amongst the many thoughts running through her head, one settled itself as the most prominent question she had.
What were the goblins doing here?
Taking a moment to calm herself down, Nira took a closer look at the greenskin herd and realised that it was almost reminiscent of a formation, though it was still a pretty poor one at that. They were preparing for something, and that ment trouble. Knowing she was unlikely to be capable of much on her own after yesterday's events Nira activated Muffle I and flew further into into the tree's branches, keeping as much of the tree as she could between her and the goblins line of sight. Though it took a little longer, she made it over to Femus and tried her best to discreetly settle down on a branch.
Keeping her voice low, she whispered, "I don't know what they're up to, but it doesn't bode well. Should we stay put or look to move further away?" The situation was making her a bit nervous since a portion of the gobs had weapons, so she wasn't too keen on making a rash decision.
