Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

@Wick I would love to put point out that right now Nikki is making an incredible mess out of Nic's plans by showing up unannounced and bringing company! xD
~Meruin Hazy~

Meruin took little notice of the slights against her appearance, only caring that apparently, this man was an oni and the fact that he was here meant he was able to resist the attempts at sealing him. Which meant one of three things: Either he was an exceptionally strong oni, those were exceptionally weak Exorcists, or he was lying. Of course, there was also the fourth option of him being delusional, but Meruin liked to categorize that as the same thing as "lying", even if he was only actually lying to himself.

Therein held the focus of her new-found interest in him: The blood of a powerful Oni was, in fact, one of the few catalysts that she had deduced would allow her research to progress, even if it wasn't her preferred one. The other options were Phoenix and Dragon blood, of which she preferred Phoenix for its vitality, though both were notoriously difficult to find, due to how rare it was to meet either. Oh, there was one last option, but Meruin was loathe to use it; demon blood was powerful but highly unreliable as a catalyst by virtue of how unstable it was. She discovered it had something to do with the inherent nature of demons to be naturally attuned to destruction. While she would save it as a last resort, Meruin was having a rather hard time procuring the means by which to obtain her preferred blood samples, so even if it risked establishing her ritual, she may just have had to use demons blood.

Now, it just so happened two necessary catalysts appeared before her, both of them at the bottom of her list of "what to use for this delicate and easily catastrophic ritual-slash-experiment", and both of them had inklings of personalities she found difficult to communicate with. Chen's impassioned declaration did little to impress her -- claims to an exalted bloodline rarely did, but if he was who he claimed to be, she had to take a moment to think on what to do next.

First, she had to confirm the veracity of their claims. Whether or not that boy was actually an Oni or whether Chen was really the scion of a Demon Lord that governed the avarice of man. How to go about that though? She had a few methods, but a large part of that involved the consent of her intended subject, and she was unsure about whether or not their characters would allow it.

Secondly, she had to ascertain whether they would be willing to cooperate or not. Judging be the supposed-Oni's demeanor, she may have to get ready for a fight she would rather avoid. As for Chen, well, perhaps she would be able to play on his pride. He seemed simple minded that way, but then again, he may also have a hidden intelligence to back up his loud pride.

Meruin committed both their faces to memory. She would see them again, she would make sure of it. For now, she needed to get to work. Besides, the others were already leaving. Before the supposed-Oni left, Meruin said: "That is of course, if you are an Oni. Perhaps you could prove that first before anything else." Hopefully he heard her. She would prefer not to repeat herself on their next meeting.

"Meruin Hazy," she said in simple reply to Chen's imperious finger pointing. "I have books to read. Good day."

"I think this Chen guys kinda hot, and that Katsumi girl reminds me of this one Nippon AV actress I knew back in the day. Girl had nice tits but nooooo personality outside of her fucking . . ."

Meruin tuned out the rest of Heathers speech. Now, where were those books about blood-seals?

Nicodemus strolled down the street, out in the open just where he liked it. Of course, there was the added strategic bonus -- the fact that the streets were usually areas with clear lines of sight meant that there was no chance of being ambushed, and he could fight on his own term -- but really, that was an afterthought. He just liked the openness of it.

From the corner of his eyes he could see several walkers approaching him, attracted to his smell or the sound of his footsteps, whatever. He twirled his crowbar in expectation, still walking as though he hadn't a care in the world. And for him, that was probably the case.

For Nicodemus there were only two real ways to actually get offed by a zombie: either you get caught off guard, or you get crowded.

For him, the former was unthinkable. If there was ever a time where he was stupid enough to get ambushed by one of those mindless animals, then he would think that he very well deserved to die, because it was one thing if a planning, thinking human got him, but a whole other thing if he was somehow outplayed by a brain-dead corpse. As for the latter, well, it was difficult to get crowded by bodies that moved slower than a sloth and were as clumsy as babies on high-heels, but it was possible -- like inside buildings, for example. Not that he ever thought he would get caught in a spot like that, but he would be willing to forgive the poor sods that got caught in those situations -- unless of course, it was a byproduct of their own carelessness, in which case, like everyone else that got ambushed by a zombie, they deserved it.

With a casual step, Nicodemus got in front of the zombie closest to him, and began talking:

"You know," he said, ducking under its arms as it tried to grab him, getting past it and swinging at the zombie directly behind it. The impact on its skull made a very satisfying crack and it spasmed for a second before it crumpled to the ground, "a lot of people like to think of you guys as the "end of human civilization," but really," he hopped forward, putting space between the zombie behind him and getting closer to another two in front of him, "you're more of a reset than an end."

He swung his crowbar at an angle where the hook end latched on to one of the zombies eye-sockets. Nic increased the force of his swing, dragging the hooked zombie into colliding with the one next to it, causing it to stumble and fall. Taking advantage of the stumble, Nic withdrew his knife and placed it snugly through its eyes. For added measure, he swung his crowbar onto its head, once more eliciting a sharp crack as its skull shattered.

He turned to the first zombie, that had tripped over its own feet trying to turn around and face him. "You're little more than animals. Sure, animals that take the shape of humans, but still, animals." Three more were left, and Nicodemus regarded them all with a bored gaze. "Humanity hasn't ended yet, but we've dialed back a few thousand years, to a time when mankind formed tribes and scavenged to survive. Where we feared animals such as yourselves and hid behind fences to protect us."

Suddenly, his bored, uninterested look gave way to one of manic excitement, and Nicodemus swung his crowbar and knife in crossing arcs, smashing one through the ears and stabbing another through the nose. The first one went down immediately, while the other one remained standing, twitching violently as Nic twisted the knife in place.

"And for that, thank you so much."

He turned to the last zombie, the one that had fallen and was even now still struggling to get up, like a cockroach flipped on its back. He smiled beatifically.

"Allow me to repay your kindness."

A few minutes later, Nicodemus was back on his way to the penitentiary, his bag filled with things he had taken from the fallen corpses. He had left a small decoration for any passing survivor:

The corpses were stripped naked and dragged into the road, arranged into a large "arrow" pointing towards the direction of the prison. Written in blood beneath the arrow were the words:

"The Penitentiary is Full! Go somewhere else for supplies!"

He smiled. Hopefully no one took that to mean that there were survivors with supplies at the penitentiary. That would be terrible. Heh.

@jaybreezy I think we've got two spots open, and nothin' much has really happened, but let's wait on @Drakeonis to confirm :D

Also, seeing as nobody's with Nic at the mo, I'll just write down what he does on his way to and at the penitentiary.
As for me, I don't see Karen getting along with anyone particularly well, but also not really antagonizing anyone either . . . she would kinda be on the middle ground with everyone in the RP so far, unless something drastic occurs ;)
I would just like to take this time to point out that Karen is the shortest character in the RP standing at 4 foot-ten :D
Karen Antonius

"Yes, mornings such as this are indeed a gift from God," said Karen on her usual religious tangent. Not that she was ever proselytized in earnest around her peers, but her belief was an inescapable part of her. It was inevitable that it would influence the way she spoke. Just as she was about to take her seat, another person entered through the door.

Karen recognized her before she even introduced herself. "I'm well aware, you're rather infamous among the "small" circle of pranksters in Gryffindor." By small, she meant "the consistently largest in the school centuries of history" -- of which she was considered something of a ghost member, mostly because Karen's pranks were all rather low-key and tended to be very well covered. Even being just a ghost member, however, she still had her ear to the ground about the notable troublemakers in the castle. They all tended to know each other in some way or form, so that usually gave her a head start on how to avoid their exploits.

Taking her hand, Karen gave it a firm shake. "But it's nice to meet you in person, Emira. I'm Karen, sixth year Gryffindor. Let's hope to an exciting year, yeah?" Afterwards, she took a seat right next to Elliot, setting her parasol and satchel to the side.

Nicodemus simply smiled. "Hey, no risk no reward, right? Anyway, I've got a plan. If all goes well, then I'll be bringing home some goodies and the roads will be zombie free."

Two zombies approached him from the left. He gave a sardonic smirk. To Nicodemus, it was beyond amusing to think that these things were somehow responsible for the downfall of post-modern civilization. They were slow, clumsy, and overwhelmingly stupid -- as more zombies approached him, Nicodemus gave a hard shove of his foot, toppling over one and that was soon joined by more. With the more numerous threat taken care of, he turned to the closes walker and bashed it upside the head, sending it to the ground right away.

The rest of them on the ground? Nic unsheathed his knife a drove it through the eyes of every last one of them.

Standing up, he turned to Alex while wiping the blood off his knife with a kerchief. "Well, I don't usually rely on luck, but hey, every little bit helps," he said with a grin. He then turned to Hunter. "Then does that mean you're volunteering to stay?"

"Anyway, I'll be heading off now. If you make it to the pharmacy, look for more than medicines. Remember to pick up as many cough masks, soaps, and condoms as you can," he said offhand. "Catch you later."

With that, he began jogging towards the penitentiary.

Nick joined in with the rest of them. He may be going in a different direction, but it would still be easier on him if there were less walkers on his way out, once at the gate, he stopped and turned to Alex.

"I don't mind company, to be sure," he said, idly twirling his crowbar, "but I don't think anyone would want to go with me, especially not with what I have planned."

He took a small can from the side pocket of his bag and showed it to him with a savage grin on his face. Upon closer inspection, the can was, in fact, a foghorn.

"We're gonna need the space if we want a smooth trip once that bus is up and running, but the penitentiary is filled with ex-convicts who couldn't get out in time. I say we lock 'em back in. There's about a hundred or so in the area, judging from my last trip there, so," he turned to the others, who he was sure heard at least some of what he said, "anyone that wants to come with, go on right ahead, just don't blame me if you find yourself as meal of the day."

Gonna get a post up. Sorry for the delay.
