Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

@Jessica Bunny: You live in America! College is optional (and expensive) and around you is opportunity. I believe you can make it!

Cabal Goes To The Infirmary Because He's Infirm, Duh.

So lunch time came, though he had spent most of the day trying to understand the lesson by lip-reading. It gave him a new kind of understanding of the phrase "none so deaf as those that will not hear". Learning was very hard indeed when you truly couldn't hear anything. When lunch came around, he was aware that he had an appointment with Mira; they decided to talk during lunch after all, but he couldn't do so if he couldn't hear her.

Approaching the girl in question, Cabal handed her a note:

"I'm currently deaf, so I'll be checking in the infirmary for the time being and might not be able to talk with you. Go ahead and have lunch without me."

With a nod, Cabal stalked towards the exit of the class and towards the infirmary.

The first thing he saw was Einar. He gave a nod to acknoweldge his presence, and took a seat on a nearby bench to wait his turn to be attended. In the meantime, his nosed twitched in irritation. The smell of a sterilized room with hundreds of medicines and chemicals compounded together was so unpleasant, which is why he disliked going to hospitals.

Suba Goes Around Saying Sorry To Everyone In The Class She Disturbed. Which Is Everyone.

After that whole debacle, things calmed down somewhat. Lessons were learned: Cabal was not an assassin after her head, at least not yet anyway, she got panicked easily and probably resorted to using her voice to quickly, and she should really avoid sleep-water-bending from now on. It was reflexive back at home and utterly harmless since everything was water, or at least surrounded by it, but here on dry land it was probably not as pleasant to get splashed in the face with a jug full of H20.

So, the first thing she did when lunch came around was apologize to people for giving an amped up screamo concert. She hurt a lot of people, apparently, and that made her feel utterly miserable. She wanted to make friends! How was she supposed to do that when her first greeting to potential ones was a sonic smack to the earlobe?!

Sighing, Suba made her way to Katherine, who was probably the gunpowder to her spark during the incident.

With a slight bow, Suba rushed her words, as though afraid she'd be dismissed if she took to long in explaining her presence. "I was asleep, and out of habit, I, uh, like bend water around me, and it just so happened hit you! I didn't really mean anything by it, honest!"

Getting up a post soon!

@ViannaNight Even better. Everyone who's injured go to the clinic. Then we all make friends (with benefits) with each other!
@13org Go Mira! It's the perfect time to make friends (with benefits)!
@Vulkan @13org Suba isn't really paying attention to much. She only listened to Cabal because he spoke in her native language.

As for Cabal . . . he's deaf and unbalanced. He doesn't really have the capacity to pay attention to anything other than his target.
Cabal Gropes Around For Something To Hold Him Steady And Realizes That He's Deaf.

Cabal's sense of balance was horribly off - unsurprising when your ear drums were ruptured, and yes, he knew what ruptured ear drums felt like - and he struggled to get on his feet.

He underestimated the girl. He had thought her simply a malevolent prankster, but in actuality she was an assassin of the Kataws. The ability to manipulate water while also being capable to sing the Song of Death common among all sirena was proof. He hadn't heard of any other species that was similar to the Kataw, even in other countries. He had let his guard down, thinking he was the only one from his country here, and assuming that even if others did come, they would respect the neutrality of the Academy and avoid deadly conflict.

He was wrong, and now he had paid for it.

No matter, the Kataw girl would pay him back three-fold

As he got to his feet, he made slow steps towards the girl, and paused at the sight in front of him.

She was in the arms of another girl, crying so piteously that it actually gave him pause. She looked so helpless and now that he had gotten a good look at her . . . so young. She was scared, scared beyond relief. No, this was not an assassin, or at least, not a very good one. She was simply someone who had little control over their own abilities. Why was she so afraid of him though? He hand't recalled doing anything to her . . .

The young man stepped in front of her, and knelt to face level. He couldn't hear her, but she could hear him clearly. He spoke in their native language of Filipino. It was risky, since it meant exposing a bit of himself, but there was no creature of the Philippine Night that could be scared of their home tongue.

"Patawarin mo po ako, Anak ng Dagat, hindi ko sadyang tatkutin ka," his words came out slowly, making sure that every syllable was pronounced right. "Akala ko inaapi mo yung klaklase namin. Naghingi lang ako nang paliwanag. Paumanhin, Anak ng Dagat, paumanhin."

Suba Cries. And Cries. And Cries. And Stops. And Cries A Little. Then Really Stops.

She couldn't control herself and kept crying. She was never good at controlling her emotions; her brothers always said she was like the waves - they came and they went whenever they felt like it. Thinking about her brothers was a little comforting.

She felt the warm embrace of someone, she couldn't tell who, and heard their voice in her ear.

It was so comforting, it reminded her of . . .

"Momma~!" she cried, gripping the other girl with all her - relatively little - might.

She was aware that the Aswang boy was approaching, and cried harder, burying herself in the arms of the Siren as if to shield herself from Cabal.

When he spoke, in their native language no-less, she started as the words that came out of his mouth was not a threat, but an apology. He was apologizing to her, because he thought she was bullying the other girl . . . what bullying?! She couldn't recall ever bullying anyone!

Still wary, she gave him a nod, as if to acknowledge his words, and let him know that she understood. She was still terrified of course -- that wasn't going away any time soon -- but at least she understood. So he wasn't out to assassinate her . . . yet. For now, she needn't fear for her life.

The thought was so relieving she started crying again, before finally calming down.

"I-I'm okay now," she told the girl she was clinging on, and getting to her feet. "U-um, thank you very much, for, er, yeah. That was a bit embarrassing." She said with a sheepish laugh, before turning to face the teacher to apologize to her as well.

Then her eyes widened as she realized that she had been in a class full of other people, and she had just screamed.

Oh no. What've I done!

She began crying again.
