White Wolf Returns: A Homecoming for World of Darkness
For over three decades, White Wolf has stood at the bleeding edge of supernatural and horror storytelling. From Vampire: The Masquerade to Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Mage: The Ascension, our games helped shape generations of roleplayers, writers, and dreamers who sought meaning in the shadows.
Today, we are proud to announce that World of Darkness will once again be guided under the name that birthed it: White Wolf.
This isnβt just a name change. Itβs a return to our rootsβand a commitment to the future. A future where mature horror stories are told with care. Where community and collaboration are central. Where fans, creators, and licensees can find clarity, support, and inspiration under a banner they trust.
Simultaneously, we are announcing today that White Wolf will now be a publisher, as well as a licensor, of World of Darkness games. This means that we will continue to work with our network of licensing partners who bring you all the great video games, tabletop roleplaying games, card games, and more -- but we will also develop some new games internally, and publish them.
The first game that we will publish as White Wolf is Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 as co-publisher with Paradox Interactive. We will announce additional games from White Wolf as the publisher later this year.
As White Wolf, we will: β’ Reinforce our legacy as pioneers of narrative-driven horror and emotional roleplay across all our products. β’ Provide clear leadership across all World of Darkness media and products. β’ Support creators with improved tools, transparency, and canon guidance. β’ Maintain rigorous standards for inclusivity, sensitivity, and collaboration in storytelling.
The night belongs to us all. Welcome home, Vamily.
Also, is it an intentional...mm...narrative clue that there are Illinois state law enforcement personnel in Detroit, Michigan, or was this story originally meant to be set in Chicago? :3
I'm retarded lol thanks for pointing that out. I mean you can still be crazy, there aren't set archetypes or anything.
Shapeshifting: Mercer's Blacklight infection has granted him the ability to both shapeshift and fashion his body into weapons. An example this would be his Blade resembling a giant sharp blade and his viral flesh possessing a yellow/reddish hue. His Whipfist has small razor-like blades across its spine-like form. Alex's evolved Hammerfists allow him to perform area attacks. He possesses consumption/assimilation abilities inherent in all infected creatures that allow him to take on the form and memories of any creature he consumes.
Superhuman Strength: His incredible strength allows him to lift cars, trucks, the destroyed remains of tanks, APCs, and helicopters and throw them great distances. He is far stronger than any normal human or most basic Infected, able to kill a regular human with a single, glancing blow and manhandle the infectious residents of Manhattan. Mercer is capable of punching holes through almost anything if necessary, including a two-foot steel door.
Superhuman Speed: Mercer's speed is likewise enhanced. He can achieve running speeds surpassing most vehicles.
Superhuman Agility: He can perform amazing parkour feats such as flips and rolls and maneuvers over and around vehicles and debris with little trouble. His leg strength allows him to leap nearly ten stories into the air. Mercer can run up sheer vertical surfaces and cling to walls for an indefinite period of time. Mercer is also capable of gliding, by ejecting small amounts of mass for further propulsion.
Superhuman Endurance: Mercer's endurance far exceeds that of a human's by leaps and bounds. His body no longer possesses weak bones or vital organs, rendering him immune to otherwise debilitating injury. This biological change allows him to survive falls from any height completely unharmed. His superhuman stamina allows him to be physically active at all times without tire.
Healing Factor: Mercer's body has vast powers of self-regeneration. So long as he is properly nourished, Mercer can restore his health and heal any wounds within moments. Mercer also seems to have a robust immune system. Though unable to counter a parasite which had been introduced into his body without outside help, he gained a growing immunity to bloodtox with repeat exposure.
Superhuman Senses: Mercer's vision and hearing are enhanced, allowing him to see beyond the visible spectrum and hear across great distances even with physical insulation. He also has thermal vision which allows him to locate heat signatures.
Durability: Mercer's body is greatly increased that he can survive extreme blunt trauma, he can survive through collapsing buildings fall on him and walk out of the rubble as it was nothing.
Adaptability: The Blacklight Virus Alex Mercer is capable of adapting himself to certain elements after a continuous exposure to said element. For example, in the comic book, after being inhibited and slowed down by more than 10Gs of gravitational force he then walked away from it as if the force never even existed.
This is mostly copied from the game's wiki page, and I'll be curbing him quite a bit.
My intent would be to retain his biomass shapeshift abilities (Which allow him to shift his body into various weapons; Claws,Blades,Hammerfist, and Whipfist. His Durability, a weakened version of his Regenerative abilities, (a bullet would take about 5 minutes to heal, rather than instantly) his heightened senses, and his Endurance.
buddy looks op maybe you should have 1 power like everyone else
Hype hype! Super stoked about this, a question I have is what the tech situation on drones would be in New Philly. Do they exist? What roles do they have? How far did drone technology come before the fog? How well was it preserved?
There are drones, they are controlled by mind melding technology. The ones Philly have are predator drones (3) in good condition, they are armed and unused and haven't been employed due to
- fuel shortages - lack of skilled pilots (you need to be trained with mind melding technology) - no practical use currently (hordes of creatures, wars), they couldn't take the ships out by the coast either way.
Drone technology has come a good way such as mind melding (essentially you control it with thoughts), weapons (plasma, lasers). However, this will be touched on later in the RP and in Telecommunications
