Welp, seems like enough people are interested, so I'll get to work on the OOC! Should get it done sometime this week, I'll keep y'all posted!
Sounds interesting, I haven't rp'd as a canon character in a long while, let alone a detective, but I could try taking a crack at L or Near if they're open? Very neat concept though!

They should be open, yup!
I'm not entirely set on who I would want to go with, but I mentioned to Truth that at the forefront of my considerations were Ace Attorney's Sholmes or Rain Code's Yuma (and Shinigami).

By the way @TruthHurts, are you thinking the characters would be sort of whisked away into this mess or maybe it would be more fun if they found a thread of mystery leading to it and ended up... wherever they end up because of that? Also are you thinking arcs will take place in like a nebulous world or be media-related arcs? For example a case set in Scooby universe, or in Revachol, or at Hope's Peak, etc?

Oh sure, the exact nature of how they all ended up where they'd be at the start of the RP is still up in the air, so it can easily be a case of thread-spotting. It'll definitely be somewhere extradimensional, to put it in a way - thinking some sorta classic manor, the stomping ground of many twisty murder plots and secret passages!

And I was figuring on a bit of a mix in the arcs. Sometimes it'd be a kinda wholesale setting, sometimes it would take place in one identical or similar from another property, though anyone native to it would find things pretty different from usual! So for example, Daphne's familiarity with the Mystery Inc. Gang or Kim's knowledge of Revachol's politics might not be of much help if those settings showed up for an arc, as the other characters would surely be or even act different from normal. But that's not exactly set in stone, hah, so we'll see how it plays out!

The other handlers, and by extension their numbers - they all arrived in style. Fancy cars, chauffers, body guards, even the dignity to walk to the meeting place of their own volition, all status symbols of those under the influence of the Church. They had to flaunt a little for the masses.

Unfortunately for that ever-important image, one handler was very, very insistent on doing things themselves, and their charge really, really did not have much say in it.

The last to arrive was no car but a scooter of sorts, one with a large cargo box attached at the back, thin windows on its side. It puttered past the assembled mob and parked with all the proper cars. The driver ignored whatever praise or vitriol the gathered mob spat at them as they opened the back compartment's door.

This handler, known only as Pequod by all but the highest of Church intelligence, was an oddity. Painstaking lengths had been taken to keep their identity hidden, from burnt fingerprints to redacted credentials, stuff you could only manage knowing the right strings to pull. Pequod never held themselves with much reverence, and all their antics with autonomy still rubbed the brass the wrong way, so it's not like they were anyone special to get away with it.

Maybe being a mystery was just a game to them.

"Time to get going," Pequod said, voice tinny and muffled through their gasmask. They reached into the container and led their assigned number out into the open by the hand. Number 8. She was dressed down, counter to the professional importance of this meeting, in little more than a form-fit halter and sweatpants.

This was also Pequod's doing.

8 took a deep, shaky breath, her hair still covering her face. She wasn't used to city air. "......sulphur dioxide...CO.."

"Let's get inside before you start breathing fire, huh?" Between Pequod's petite build and 8's lanky height, you could almost see them as mother and child crossing the street while holding hands. If you squinted hard enough. But, no, it would be more accurate to call them a kid and their balloon. Pequod strode with purpose, practically pulling 8 behind them. Her arm was limp in their grasp, the other folded beneath her chest, her legs moving only to keep herself upright.

"Well? What do you think?" Pequod asked as they entered the lobby. It was more familiar for 8 in there, at least with the chill, the stark whiteness, the relative quiet. Not that it made her seem any more... present. She was muttering under her breath the entire walk up. And now she brought her free hand up to her face, idly chewing on two of her own fingers as she stared at the walls, biblical texts and stained glass, with wide eyes through the strands of her hair.

8 swallowed a glob of saliva, and replied, "...linalyl acetate..?"

"Lavender, is it? I never liked that stuff." Despite the casualness of the conversation, Pequod never took their sight away from their front, and to any trained ears it was clear that the friendliness in their tone was almost forced. Or, no, not forced. Exaggerated. Cutesy. "You want some?" 8's response came in the form of a deep, loud rumbling of her stomach, followed by a low groan as she continued to gnaw at her fingertips. "Oh sure, I'll get you some to try. If you're nice and friendly!"

Once they were past security and began to gather with the rest, Pequod released 8's hand and wandered off to meet their fellow handlers. All 8 did with this newfound freedom was to start chewing on her that hand as well, front teeth scratching her fingernails while her molars gnawed at her other pair.

"No need to worry about her," Pequod said in way of greeting, "she just hasn't had breakfast since... snrk, forever, I guess."
Are duos, such as Harry Du Bois and Kim Kitsuragi, allowed?

Yes, but in these two's case it's also encouraged :D
I’m thinking about it…

I know Velma from Scooby Doo would be the obvious choice for this kind of thing, but I kinda wanna be Daphne.

Don't worry, there'll be plenty of opportunities for characters of all skill to shine!

Also, no need to stick to the mundane sorts for this - can be any investigator type, be they supernatural, sci-fi, and such! I don't wanna be too strict on it since it's already limited in options, hah.
Welcome aboard
Isn't life full of mysteries?

For eons we have been obsessed with them, and as obsessed with those who would provide us closure - philosophers questioning the mysteries of life, explorers chasing the mysteries of the world, scientists discovering what mysteries still remain. So enrapturing was this quest for answers that it bled into the stories we told.

It became the archetype of the Seeker.

One who, as the name suggests, seeks to solve whatever questions they may have. Characters that search for the reality hidden from them. Characters that cut through lies and misdirection that impede their quest. Characters who strive to reveal the truth no matter the cost.

Characters who have come to be known as...

Detectives.

Seekers Beyond is a semi-episodic crossover RP where the main narrative thrust is solving mysteries. Murder, theft, missing persons, cyber terrorism, demon summoning, frowning, if it's a crime then you're probably gonna be sleuthin' it. Inspired by all manner of detective fiction, police procedurals, logic deduction games, etc, you will be playing as pre-existing canon investigators, wrapped up in a mess that threatens the fabric of reality and requires them to do what they do best: figure shit out.

As such, this RP will be written to the best of my ability as a mystery. You will be expected to investigate, gather clues, piece together information, and act on what you know rather than trying to brute force answers or utilizing OOC knowledge to get the pieces in order. It's, uh, pretty experimental, but I don't require perfection, just cooperation. We'll play it by ear when the time comes and adjust where needed.

Rather than dealing with a single meta-mystery for the duration of the RP, proceedings will primarily be divided into distinct and unrelated "cases". Each "case" will constitute an arc, in its own setting with its own cast of suspects, victims, and so on. There will be periods between cases where your characters can unwind, explore the greater situation, and whatever else may happen as the ball gets rolling, acting as a bridge between cases and a means of development for both PCs and the overall plot.

I'm keeping this thread on the lighter side of detail, as I've yet to gather all my thoughts on the RP fully. Think of this as a line in the water: if enough fish bite, I'll reel it in! (You're the fish and an OOC thread would be the reel, I dunno if that tracks-)

Still, always happy to answer any questions, both for stuff I already know ahead of time and as a way to help solidify ideas into something workable, so please don't be afraid to gab!

However it goes, though, thanks for checking it out, and...

Happy Sleuthing!

Sorry to be pedantic but I'm a bit confused about the Affiliation segment. He doesn't like being told what to do, so he blindly trusts people telling him what to do?
Whatever awkward interaction was in the cards between Ayo and Osamu still was put on hold with the appearance of a huge-ass train falling from the sky. It was definitely a way to make an entrance.

"About time," Ayo muttered. All she had to do was slip her phone from her pocket and tap a couple more times for the transformation to take place. Black flames burst into existence all over her body, and while Osamu chose to double-back for the stairs Ayo sprinted forward, leaping off the edge of the roof, fire flickering in the wind. As she fell, she stuck her arm out, a heavy hatchet in her hand which she sank into the building wall - the blade crashed through its windows as she fell, slowing her fall in a shower of glass and concrete splinters.

She hit the ground with a solid thud, dispelling the rest of the flames, revealing her revolutionaries garb. Sprinting ahead with a burst of speed, Ayo made it to the train about when the rest were starting to gather too.

"Come ooooon, man!" Ayo shouted as she skid to a halt, "couldn'tja leave a couple for me?!" Not waiting for the conversation to continue, Ayo scaled one of the back carriages of the train, to check out their so-called "ride".
