Stop being passive aggressive. Just be aggressive.

It is certainly not 'optimal', but it *is* doable, depending on what you want to do with it. You could go swords or valor bard and play them more like a warrior with some magical ability

Falling Skies

Plot and Premise:

Hello everyone! Welcome to the interest check for Falling Skies! This is a reboot of a particularly old series- the original being written about 6 years ago, and the last iteration being about 3 years ago. This Space-Opera-with-mechs RP follows the adventures of a group of men and women from the Empire's 101st Legion. I will be accepting a relatively small number of players- thinking between 3 and 5 including any co-gms, so this is not first come first served. This is a Mech RP, reminiscent of Gundam, Robotech, Front Mission and Super Robot Wars.

While nothing about giant mechs really fit the premise of 'hard sci fi', this RP will be aiming to fit something along the lines of 'hardish' sci fi- grounded in reality where possible, with some rule bending of realism where needed. Something sorta like classic Halo in terms of gritty military fiction vs space fantasy.

We the players will play the role of the 7th MAS (Mobile Armor Suit) Squadron, a unit from the United Earth Empire's 101st Mobile Armor Legion, as they return to friendly space from a long and grueling campaign and prepare to go home. Par for the course, absolutely everything goes wrong and they find themselves struggling for survival in increasingly hostile space. This RP aims to blend the melodrama of a space opera with the cold and harsh realities of war, and of course with giant robots.

Terminology and Technology:

Mobile Armor Suit Builder:

Tech Room:

Character Sheets:

The following are the Character Skeletons for the the 7th MAS Squadron. The CS's are a 2 part set. The first part is your character, the pilot. The second part is your MAS, which you can make using the builder above or use one of the UEE MAS's from the Tech Room.

A note on Callsigns: A callsign is a name given to you by the rest of the squadron (whether you want it or not). There are very few people that will be willing to unironically call you "Archangel" or "Kingslayer". Nicknames and Callsigns should be short, sweet, easy to call out. Examples of common callsigns are in reference to habits people observe you doing or quick shortening of your names: IE "Brit" because you have a strong English accent, "Twitch" because you tend to look around a lot/rapidly, "Kanga" because your last name is Roo, etc. If you're a brand new pilot and haven't been around long enough- or haven't been notable enough- to have an established callsign, you won't have one- or in the case of the newbie: "Noob", "Rook", "Rookie", "FNG", etc.

Player Roles

I am a personal fan of smaller scale RPs, as such, I will only be accepting 4-5 other players to join me in this adventure. While not necessary, there are several roles I would like to see filled:
  • The FNG (The Fucking New Guy) - This player should be among the youngest members of the team, as well as the least experienced. S/He has many roles, such as serving as a pseudo focus of the RP as the 'impressionable youngster', as well as likely having a brighter, likely more positive outlook than the rest of the members that make up the rest of the team. S/He also serves as a convenient reason for characters/npcs to explain and describe the lore that, while known to the characters in the world, is otherwise new or unknown to the players themselves.
  • The Scarred Veteran - in contrast to the New Guy, the veteran will be among the oldest- if not the oldest member of the squadron. S/He will likely be the most jaded and cynical member of the team, and will likely be the reliable backbone of the team. In this iteration of Falling Skies, the war has been going on for about 20 years, so it is possible that the Veteran may have have grown up during peace time. The veteran may also be given some special responsibilities later down the line, and will also be privy to some information before the rest of the group.

Other potential ideas include: "The Hotshot/Ace", the techy guy, the one whose just sort of there, etc.

Who's game?

Incidentally, I was just looking over my old character sheet for this RP the other night
I'm here, I'll try to get something up this weekend, I just finished a research paper for school, and I'm prepping a mecha RP of my own so I'm a bit writer'ed out for the week
Tentatively interested, will see if I can come up with something
I might be wrong, it may not be possible to delete posts without asking mods to help... Huh.. I could've sworn there was.
@Bitterblue111 btw, I believe the GM has the ability to delete posts- if the ones in the IC are bugging you.

I'm personally not a huge fan of using dice rolls to determine what happens in combat. I generally trust people not to fluff themselves up too much in a fight, and the idea of bad dice rolls mucking up a character's narrative is a little too dnd/gamey for me- I play enough dnd throughout the week lol. but I'll follow the group consensus.
Odran Stormweaver

Odran gave each of the others a gruff, but approving nod as they introduced themselves. It was a motley little crew they all were- diverse in background as well as race. To be honest, they were not exactly the first group Odran would turn to to fight a dragon- not that he had ever fought any dragons either, they were typically rather friendly folk. He would have much rather had been backed by the Ironborn- ranks and ranks of heavy crossbow fire backed by ballista was Odran's typical go-to. Good old steel and stone as opposed to magical mumbojumbo. Still, he supposed they were all here for some reason or another.

The large human man Calit described himself as former royal special forces, how one simply left that life unscathed Odran wasn't entirely sure, but it certainly put the man on the 'don't cross him' list for Odran. Though, from the way the man spoke, perhaps he didn't leave the life completely unscathed. All in all, it just added to how motley a crew they were.

Odran looked to Vivian as she spoke to him, and offered her a hearty chuckle in return. "Aye, I get that a lot now. I chock it up to a wee bit o' giants blood oan mah marm's side." He hand waved her away as she flattered his people. While flattery would get you everywhere when it came to dwarves, Odran at least had to put up a show of humility.

Any further small talk was ceased as Lalei appeared, and presented to them the present situation. It was grimmer than Odran had expected. In just the two days it had taken them to get here, Vaeros had already destroyed Polis and much of the human settlements. To say Odran was shocked was a bit of an understatement. He had never considered the armies of Polis to be particularly noteworthy, but he hadn't expected them to be defeated so easily either. While most of them fell behind the average Ironborn dwarf in terms of experience and equipment, the armies of Polis were among the most numerous in Valeroma. Now more than ever, Odran yearned to have his fellow dwarves with him, and ready to fight.

"We must at least be sendin' word tae other major cities." Odran spoke up, "Ah dinnae know about a prophecy, but the others at least need time to prepare a defense!"

A few of the others expressed confusion about why they had been chosen and what could a few of them do that cities could not. Fair questions to be asked. Perhaps they were the only ones that could unlock legendary weapons or perhaps the due to the prophecy they were the only ones whose weapons would pierce the dragon's hide- magic did weird things like that, which is why Odran didn't like it. Odran merely shook his head asked if he had any questions- he wanted them to get moving as fast as possible, and the more time they spent talking, the less time they spent walking.
I'm good, I'll have something up tomorrow, but it'll mostly be everyone kind of waiting for Lalei to tell us what to do next.
What Moonshadow said. Take care.

In other news, I made a small Kassandra.

Aww I like this a lot! Too bad there's no dwarf option 😅
Typically, roleplaying etiquette implies you only control your own characters actions, and not the actions of others, unless you're the GM. In smaller or more familiar groups- or when explicitly allowed, some degree of actions can be assumed for other members of the group. But in general, just like in real life, you cannot control what others say, think or do. That usually takes away the sense of agency for others, and may interfere with what their plans were for their character. Just some stuff to keep in mind for the future.
