The spell protects against mundane, unenchanted projectiles - not those of enchanted weapons or spells. That would be silly. And it would be even sillier to give PEASANTS enchanted guns and enchanted ammo. xD
This is assuming all users of weapon have good stats though. As I've said before, the average human has all 'F' ranks in terms of stats, so for the unwashed masses, guns would be superior. Of course, guns are again negated by the fact that any wizard who can cast Protection from Projectiles pretty much invalidates their entire existence anyway...
While I like unconverntional characters as much as the next person.
"Guns", in the sense of firearms, don't really exist in Oublioth. In a world where you can blow up rocks by paying a wizard a few coins, there's no real need to develop gunpowder, which in turn means that nobody's figured out that rifles and pistols are vastly superior to bows and crossbows.
Now, if you want magic-projectile shooting apparati, things like wands, staves, arcane foci and other such equipment exist - just not in the shape of 'guns'. Of course,I suppose you could just bend a wand into the right shape or something... Not that I'd know how or why your character would do that, not having ever seen a real gun before, buy hey - details.

- A pretty-boy paladin
- A spunky spellblade focused on wind and electric magix
- A snooty merchant-noble who likes necromancy
- A pompous mountain mage who summons fairies to do all the work for him
- A blood-mage spellblade summoner... thing... In skimpy clothes!
So, yeah, there's a lot of roles that could be picked if you want. Healer, archer, conventional thief, agile fighter, barbarian-type, specialist wizard, cleric... And more, I suppose. The possibilities are endless.
