Current Attn teeny boppers: You realize adbots aren't ppl, yes? They randomly generate login info, then execute pre-programmed posts. Your rage-spam goes unheard by the machine. And is equally annoying.

If you're going by UK conventions of knighthood/nobility, yes. It also would be pronounced like the "dam" in "madame," rather than like a Dick Tracy "daym."

Rutger finished the rest of his pie, half listening as Kori explained the mission to Artemis and handed him the poster. Taking out dark mages, sounded like typical stuff for the S-Class. Out of simple curiosity, Rutger peered at the poster over Artemis's shoulder. His eyes practically bugged out of his head.

"HOLY CELESTIAL SPIRITS!" he cried, pointing at the bottom part of the poster. "Kori, have you actually looked at the reward for this thing!?" He looked between the two S-Class mages, and Darren--bless his heart, the man probably had no idea what was going on--and began tapping the paper's lower corner. "A hundred million freakin' Jewels! A hundred million!" He stepped back and held up two fingers. "Some requests for full scale military action are only like, two million! The GRAND MAGIC GAMES, for crying out loud, the pot for that--for proving you're the best guild in the whole damn kingdom--is thirty million! This mission is ONE. HUNDRED. MILLION."

He took a few deep breaths, calming himself before looking seriously at Artemis. "I know you're an S-rank, man, but unless there's been a mistake at the printer's, this sounds super dangerous. And this is for some newbie dark guild? If they're dangerous or powerful enough to warrant this kind of reward, sounds to me like you're looking at dark mages on the level of something like...like the old Balam Alliance! It took four guild's top mages working together to bring them down!" Now he looked towards Kori, obviously worried. "I know you hate listening to the boss whine, Kori, but did you get the whole story from Master Talon about this? This sounds like it could be some major bad news."

Working on that now.

Thanks! I just responded, and spoke to Artemis too.

Also, kinda unsure which of the missions I'd like to have Rutger go on. Any suggestions as to where his skills would be most helpful?
Rutger nodded and smiled as Kori headed back to the Master with a pie in hand, and reached for one himself. Before he could take one of the warm treats, however, a thread of sticky silk zipped down from the ceiling. "Yipe!" The startled fire mage pulled back his hand and looked up at the ceiling, watching in fascination as the transformed Noire hoisted her prize up into her waiting jaws and then scurried away. He chuckled and shook his head before explaining the reason for his outburst, for Darren's sake. "Looks like Noire's just as eager as I am. Snatched it right out from under me." He took one of the pies for himself, and had just taken a bite when Artemis sat down at the counter next to them, laying his head down on his arms as if he were tired. "G'mornin'," Rutger managed, before swallowing. He eyed the heavy tome under the S-Class mage's arms. While it wasn't his style of magic, he was still greatly interested in the book's contents, but he had asked Artemis about it way back when they had first met and knew that, for whatever reason, no one but the mage who owned it could read it. He took another bite of the pie, chewing thoughtfully as Kori brought Artemis his glass of water. Something pricked at him, something about Kori and the S-Class mages...oh, right. He gulped down the piece of pie and wiped his mouth with the back of his glove.

"If you're looking for work, Artemis, I think a big job for the S-Class just went up." He looked over at Kori with curiosity present in his face. "That was what the boss was yelling about, right Kori?"

So am I. Might lurk around the 1x1 section for a while.

You could have Kori and Darren respond to Rutger...
Rutger sipped his tea, letting the steam tickle his nose with its herbal scent before he returned the cup to the table, never taking his eyes off the book in his other hand. Even all this time after leaving his snowy home, it just didn't feel right if he didn't start the morning off with something hot. Gingerly he took the edge of a page between thumb and forefinger and--

"KOOOOOOOOOORIIIII!"

The fire mage cringed as Master Talon's shout rang out, accidentally tearing a small piece of the page out of the book. He looked from the book to the piece with an expression of pain...but at least it hadn't taken any of the text with it. He sighed and placed the piece of parchment into a pocket of his jacket, then turned his head towards the counter. Kori was already back from whatever the Master wanted of her, and speaking to Darren. Whatever it was, it seemed like it would be the S-Class's problem. Rutger went back to his book, adjusting himself on the bench that spanned the length of one of the guild's tables. Soon he was engrossed in the tome again, his eyes wandering back and forth over each page. The book's multi-colored cover displayed the title in flowing black script that had a distinctly oriental feel to it: The Basics of Rainbow Fire, by Professor Totomaru.

Vaguely he registered a sing-song voice of greeting, followed by a familiar bark, both from outside. From what little he could catch of the voices, it was probably Jayce and his animal companion, and the other one was...Celia? Probably. It took the creak of the oaken double doors to get Rutger to raise his head once more, as he smelled something warm and fresh coming from the basket the newcomer was carrying. It was Sevrin, who carried his own smell, this one of the flowers he always seemed to have on hand. The mage delivered the basket full of goodness to Kori, and Rutger gulped back his desire. Best to let the Master, at least, have the first pick out of politeness. However, he saw no problem with waiting to grab the next one available.

The fire mage carefully folded the corner of the page he was on and flipped the book shut, slipping it under one arm. Then he hooked a finger through the handle of his tea cup, taking another sip before he rose from his seat and made his way over to the counter.

"Good morning, Kori, Darren." he said, gesturing with the cup and giving them both a warm smile. Darren couldn't see it, but Rutger figured it was the thought that counted. "Sevrin's landlady send over some goodies again?"

Well, depending on the mage, I guess that the circumstances for learning new spells or getting new abilities would be different. For a holder type mage, you could either have your tools go through some sort of evolution, making them stronger, or you could simply find stronger magic artifacts. For a caster mage, I think that it would be both a physical and mental thing. Although not the same, I would like to look at Chakra from Naruto to explain this. You'd have to know how to channel and mold the chakra/magic power inside of you in order to create new spells. You could also learn spells from tomes, as well as physical teaching from others. molding the energy differently can create variations of a possibly already developed spell, and continuing to deviate from the source material by making changes to every single variant can create a new spell altogether. Also, the fire mage is in.

Thank you! I'll whip up a post in a bit!
Here is my character submission. Please let me know if anything needs to be fixed! Also, a question: How will learning/revealing new spells work? I assume we'll just gradually grow more powerful as we go along, but is there anything specific that needs to be done in order for a character to gain new spells/abilities?

Name: Rutger Artz
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: Rutger is like a camp fire, warm and friendly to everyone he meets. He is curious, and enjoys reading or talking to other mages about their experiences for entertainment and to learn. He is very studious towards his own magic, and seeks to master as many aspects of it as he can. He is compassionate, and rarely shows anger...but of course, even a candle flame will burn an unwary hand.

Biography: Originally born in a mountaintop village where snow was a common sight even in the warmer months, young Rutger had to spend a lot of time indoors as snow and icy winds howled against the windows. While he sat on the thick fur rug with a crackling fire at his back, his father would regale him with wild and wonderous tales from the pages of old books. As he grew older, Rutger devoured the stories wherever he could find them, once even scaling the mountain by himself at record speed to obtain a book from another town on the night it was released. And one day, a creaky horse drawn wagon with a little old man in the driver's seat made the perilous journey up the mountain, his equally old horse bravely pushing through the snowbanks. The little peddlar hawked all his wares to the villagers that market day; pots and pans, blankets and quills, thread and needles, and all other bits and bobs. But only one caught Rutger's interest: a thick tome with a fiery symbol on its front, and in gilded letters the title Fire Magic: A Beginner's Guide.

For days afterward, Rutger could barely pull himself away from the book to eat and sleep. The prospect of learning magic engaged him like nothing else, and when a pinprick of flame blossomed upon his fingertip, its light paled against that of his smile. He soon found he had a natural affinity for fire type magic, and had soon practically memorized the contents of the book.

Once he felt he could consider himself a full fledged mage, he decided that he wanted to join a guild not only to make a living, but to learn more about the exciting world of magic. With a loving farewell to his family and friends, he went down the mountain and began to trek across Fiore, searching for a guild that piqued his interest. He soon found himself in Middlemist, under the banner of Mystic Ram.

Magic: Caster Type - Fire Magic
A form of Magic that revolves around the use of fire, allowing the caster to conjure, manipulate, and control the element for various purposes. The caster can change the properties of this Magic such as its "form", allowing it to take shape as a gas or solid element. The color of this Magic can also change, ranging from purple, red, blue and yellow. Fire Magic can also work in a similar fashion to explosives. The caster is able to conjure this element from various parts of their body or from the nearby surroundings, though it is possible for weapons to use fire as well.

Spells: Rutger prides himself on knowing lots of Fire spells, but these are some of his most commonly used ones:

  1. Fira: A basic fireball with the added property of homing in on a target once fired. It's decently fast, but not very powerful.

  2. Firaga: A much larger, much more powerful fireball that no longer homes in on targets, but still moves quickly. This straightforward attack is strong, and a good way to force through defenses, but it only travels in a straight line and doesn't hold together over long ranges.

  3. Maragi: A wave of flame that expands in a forward facing arc, good for hitting multiple targets. Decent power, but a bit on the slow side.

  4. Blazing Knuckle: Concentrated flames gather around the caster's hand for added damage when punching, but what really makes this spell worthwhile is that the flames can be unleashed in a point blank explosion. A good strategy if one knows their attack is likely to be caught or blocked, but it requires getting in extreme close quarters with the target.

  5. Firaja: The caster must specify a target area with a magic circle, then a powerful explosion of flame is unleashed. This is a very powerful spell, especially for the target in the center, but enemies around the edge of the spell will take a little bit of damage too. However, it requires concentration and preparation time from the caster, and is best used when the foe is distracted.

We're always accepting people!

Great! I'll start working on a character right away!
I'm interested in this! Are you guys still accepting new people? I follow the manga, so I'm pretty up-to-date on everything I think.
Thank you! Yes, it really was, although in my opinion they could have done a couple of things better with Dark Dawn. The first two games are definitely classics, though!
