Current I like making characters, and having internal roleplays with them. Just talking with the voice in my head.

Saddened that Roleplaygateway has died. Glad to have found another active roleplay forum.

The road had not improved with time.

If anything, the rising daylight only made the cold more honest about its intentions.

Aric shifted his footing on a narrower patch of packed snow, where previous travelers had temporarily made the path easier to navigate. A gentle wind now swept across the open moors, serving as a reminder that winter was still imposing its demands.

The figure ahead registered first as movement against the white landscape.

Then, details began assembling themselves.

Human. Traveling alone. Wide straw hat. Sandals. Fishing pole. In winter.

On a road that had seen next to no traffic for hours.

Aric's pace slowed almost imperceptibly.

Not alarm. Assessment.

People who matched their environment rarely demanded much attention. The ones who did not generally warranted a second look.

The greeting carried easily across the cold morning air.

"G'morning! Nice day for fishing, ain't it? Huah hah!"

Aric regarded the man quietly as they closed the distance, eyes dropping briefly toward the sandals before returning upward again.

"...Optimistic choice of footwear."

The words came flatly, more observation than criticism.

His gaze lingered a little longer this time.

Weather inappropriate clothing. Unbothered posture. No visible discomfort. Cheerful affect that either ignored the circumstance entirely or understood something he did not.

Potentially useful details.

"Fishing pole too."

A small cloud of breath escaped beneath the brim of his hat.

"Either you're heading somewhere I don't know about, or you've got a higher tolerance for winter than most of Avonshire."

He continued walking, though at an easier pace now, attention remaining quietly fixed on the stranger.

The clothing was wrong for the weather. The demeanor was wrong for the road. Yet neither felt forced. No bravado. No strain hidden beneath the smile. Just an easy familiarity with circumstance that should have been miserable.

And then recognition found its footing.

Not from the road.

From Avonshire.

From rumors, fragments, and the sort of details a watchman learned to hold onto because seemingly insignificant people had a habit of standing near important moments.

Hostage. One of the prisoners taken during the Harvestide catastrophe. The fisherman. The one who had helped get people out once the fighting turned chaos into opportunity. A fishing pole kicked within reach. Prisoners led clear while others stayed behind to finish the work.

Strange, but not random.

Aric's pace eased another fraction as old instincts quietly rearranged the man in front of him from roadside eccentric into witness.

"You were there. At Harvestide?"

@KillamriX08 Bro is look-maxing apparently. I also didn't notice how square jawed he was until you just pointed it out. That is what I get for making characters in the AM.
I may have gone a little overboard on the character/pokemon creation. lol
I agree with @Randomness. Even if that means I don't get to play in the roleplay. lol I have enjoy reading everyone's characters and teams, and have greatly enjoyed creating my own. I had a whole internal roleplay with my character and his team, which made me laugh at my own thoughts.

Dusts off the old gameboy and pokemon red, booting it up with a smile at the chime.

"Time to come out and play again my old friends."

I am completely interested in this. Is this a new region, or just a new league?
My general rule of thumb is to never control someone's character(s). However, for forum roleplays, I need to relax that a tiny bit and only reiterate actions/dialogue that they already have posted, and I stay away from any auto-hitting things (this is more for roleplay fighting).
Kael Arashiro

A month away from Sagamiyama had done him good.

Too good, maybe.

Salt air, engine noise, and early mornings spent hauling nets beneath skies large enough to make most problems feel smaller than they actually were. It had been simpler than balancing school, training, family expectations, and disappearing into the night to hunt creatures most people would never know existed.

Graduation had only complicated things. The family businesses. The sea. Staying in Sagamiyama. Leaving it. Too many paths, and too much thinking.

Tonight, instinct cut cleanly through all of that.

Standing outside the convenience store with a cold drink in hand, Kael felt it immediately.

Hollow.

His gaze shifted toward the road.

A quadrupedal shape stood beneath the streetlights, motionless except for the slow turn of its head toward him. For a brief moment, neither moved. The familiar tension settled into his shoulders automatically, calm and practiced after the last month.

Then the Hollow turned away.

Not retreating exactly. Moving with purpose.

It bounded down the road toward the city center.

Kael frowned slightly.

...That's new.

The vibration in his pocket interrupted the thought.

Soul Pager.

Right. He had almost forgotten what carrying the thing felt like after a month away.

Pulling it free, his eyes dropped to the screen.

Come to Sakuhana Park, now!

Short. Urgent.

The lingering pressure hanging over Sagamiyama suddenly made much more sense.

Too much reiatsu.

Too many familiar signatures.

Something had happened.

Without hesitation, Kael set the unfinished drink beside the vending machine and stepped toward the convenience store entrance.

"Sorry," he called toward his relative inside, already backing toward the street. "Something came up. I'll explain later."

Not a great explanation.

It would have to do.

The moment he cleared the storefront, his pace changed.

Movement flowed smoothly from one step into the next as he cut through the late-night streets toward Sakuhana Park. Corners shortened beneath practiced footwork, momentum carrying naturally through turns, stairs, railings, and narrow walkways without ever fully breaking rhythm.

Kaze Ayumi. Not explosive speed. Just efficient movement. Constant movement.

The full moon overhead felt strangely oppressive tonight, and the pressure in the air only grew heavier the closer he drew to the park. By the time the familiar outline of Sakuhana began appearing between rooftops and darkened streets, Kael was already reaching into his pocket.

Cold metal met his fingers.

The Substitute Badge.

His grip settled around it as his pace eased approaching the edge of the area.

Something serious had happened here.

He could feel it.

Without breaking stride, Kael pulled the badge free beneath the moonlight and continued toward the park.

Name: Kael Arashiro (Kai-el Ah-rah-shee-roh)

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Personality:

Kael remains calm, attentive, and hard to upset, even in dangerous situations. He exudes easy confidence and maintains a polite, composed demeanor that puts others at ease. Instead of dominating conversations, he prefers listening first, reading the room before speaking.

Despite his polished appearance, Kael isn't distant or cold. He enjoys socializing, values sincerity, and often treats others with patience, sometimes seeming older than he is. He invites friends to his family home, checks on people when something feels off, and naturally keeps groups grounded during tense moments. His mother often complains that he forgets to reply to texts when he disappears for training.

Kael also has a competitive streak, especially in combat. When fighting, he becomes intensely focused, controlling exchanges through movement, positioning, and timing rather than brute strength.

At his core, Kael fears helplessness and chaos more than pain. He believes that panic makes difficult situations worse and that remaining calm and collected is crucial to handling crises.

Backstory:

Kael grew up in Sagamiyama with his parents, spending much of his childhood between the city and a nearby coastal town where much of his extended family still lives. Weekends near the ocean became a regular part of his life, surrounded by warehouses, machinery, shoreline roads, hiking trails, and bustling streets filled with noise and activity.

Unlike many of his peers, Kael was raised in a stable and supportive home. His parents emphasized discipline, honesty, and responsibility without placing excessive expectations on him. Over time, he became a reliable presence in difficult situations, quietly stepping in whenever things became unstable.

Throughout his life, Kael has encountered strange phenomena: reflections moving oddly, shadows appearing without cause, and persistent pressure in empty areas. Instead of fearing these experiences, he has gradually come to accept them as part of his world.

Recently, during a fierce storm while helping evacuate civilians near a roadside warehouse district outside the city, Kael was caught in a Hollow attack. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he stayed behind to lure the Hollow away from trapped civilians.
His bravery caught the attention of Shouko Hayasegawa, who intervened before the Hollow could kill him. On the verge of death, Kael was offered the chance to become a Substitute Shinigami.

Kael accepted without asking many questions.

Since becoming a Substitute Shinigami, Kael has found it increasingly difficult to explain his injuries, disappearances, and exhaustion to those around him. Although he remains close to his family, he now carries parts of his life he can no longer fully share.

Why did you become a Substitute Shinigami:

Kael never viewed becoming a Substitute Shinigami as heroic. After witnessing the hidden dangers surrounding ordinary people firsthand, he realized he could no longer look away once he understood what existed around them.

None currently.

Zanpakuto:

A simple wakizashi without a tsuba, kept in a matte-black sheath engraved with faint spiral patterns visible only under direct light. The hilt is wrapped in dark blue cloth with loose weaving near the base. Though unremarkable outwardly, the blade feels unusually well-balanced, lighter in movement than at rest.

Shikai:

Unavailable.

Techniques:

[Hakuda]

Nagare Sen (流れ閃, Flowing Flash)

Kael deflects attacks quickly and slips in close to counterattack while still moving. It's more about timing and positioning than hitting hard.

Suiren Kōsa (水蓮交差, Crossing Water Lotus)

A close-range fighting style with layered strikes and shifting angles. Kael constantly moves during exchanges, making it hard to predict where his next hit will come from.

[Hoho]

Kaze Ayumi (風歩み, Wind Step)

A movement technique emphasizing smooth footwork and momentum over speed bursts. He uses it to stay mobile and avoid being locked into direct exchanges.

Engetsu Kaiki (円月回帰, Returning Crescent)

After attacking, Kael repositions with circling movements instead of resetting his stance, maintaining pressure without losing momentum.
