@Vilageidiotx I honestly don't know. It really does seem like it's becoming a real thing. I mean like I said, so many comedians, won't go to college campuses anymore...

For your grandma being offended at that, sort of brings me to an observation. I think there has always been a movement of older generations of people, thinking the things young people do are secretly evil and corrupting them. Books, Music, Art, Hobbies, TV, Internet, Video games, Tattoo's. What have you...but I've never in a long time. Seen people in their 20's, and people who are NOT old...making this no longer an old vs new divide. I don't feel like going to deep into it. But when you have fucking people in their 20's telling me shit equivalent to someone decades older than them like a fox news anchor explaining that Watch Dogs turns you into a hacker. SOMETHING, is going wrong in the current world.

I dunno what it is that's gone wrong, but I bet we can fix it by lighting whatever campus Milo visits on fire and pummeling everybody who shows up. I mean it's been working so far.

@Dynamo Frokane Not really. :D

Aside from the two in row I mentioned. I'm too lazy to do so. :D

Disagree. Nothing on this forum discussing politics ever stayed civil. But clearly at an impasse. :D

Disregarding everything else, you cant produce much evidence for that claim but its not true, nothing to do with laziness, There has been a lot of political and 'divisive' threads not made by me.

Also I could literally start giving you a list of political threads that have stayed civil.

Youre saying there isnt one, here's 3

roleplayerguild.com/topics/159673-oi-p..

roleplayerguild.com/topics/153390-your..

roleplayerguild.com/topics/159100-why-..

Everything in these threads have stayed civil, no personal attacks or nasty insults (apart from a joking satire paragraph in the political compass thread which is clearly a joke), Youre perception of politics in Off-topic is just wrong. Dont know what esle to tell, ya. Anyway I'm all done now enjoy my mildly political thread that you seem to like posting in :D

That was always true too though. I'm not going to say people aren't stupid or overreaction about shit, I just think they more or less always have been that way. If anything we just hear about it more now, since we are plugged into this stuff pretty much constantly via the internet.

What is the point of college if you don't get to light things on fire at least once, realistically. Politics in the twenty first century is a sport, and sports fans of all kinds need their riots.

@Dynamo Frokane I have entire damn imgur pages of people being raging assholes on this forum, because of strictly political disagreements. You can't say otherwise, because I'm fully aware how nasty people can/did get. I don't need to show you everything...the fact that this literally just happened a few days ago, is clear evidence enough. I don't care who makes them. It's still the ONLY thing that causes fights. How about naming me a thread that wasn't political that got someone to call someone creepy? I'd wait a century for that evidence.

You're very first link had no evidence of a political discussion...people posted shit, no one commented on. You said cucks, people laughed and you talked about discord. >.> Explain how that even remotely counts as an actual discussion about politics?

And since you're trying so hard to prove that there's some discussion where politics doesn't turn into toxic waste...and three threads is the best you got...I already can beat you on the number of things that turned nasty because of it...<.<

Also, a touch presumptuous that you assume it has anything to do with you posting in it...maybe I just post in whatever I feel like. :P

I'll just agree to disagree. And seriously though, consider downloading google chrome/or some kind of spellcheck application. (you won't misspell else that way, makes it much easier to have a 'serious' discussion when you think the opposition gives even the littlest of a shit. It also helps in roleplaying posts too. :3)

Eh, the older generation maybe. But I don't think it's ever been as frequent or even as prevalent otherwise. Especially with people in their 20'3 and 30's. The way technology is progressing constantly and improving lives and the internet only gives you access to more information (even good information if you look for it hard enough), the less people that think vaccines will cause autism the better, you know?

The only thing people should be lighting on fire in college should be the shots. :P

People are so stupid. Autism is obviously caused by vitamin supplement pills and hand soap! I mean, just look at everyone with autism, they all wash their hands with soap so clearly there's a connection!

@ClocktowerEchos Sadly, my sisters believe this. (at least one of them anyway.) Which probably make my doctor parents, very sad. Though some of the things they say to me gives me, them and my brother a good laugh. -.-

I also, really would not be surprised if people think that...I know stupidity is getting worse, because now 'flat-earthers' exist in current year.

Also, I'm going to double post and call back to the comment made earlier about how people can't take a joke. There's actually a scientific theory about that. The benign violation theory states that in order for a joke to be considered funny it has to violate a perceived norm while being benign in nature. But when a joke actively or is told in a threatening way to an individual and it violates the benign aspect of the joke, then it becomes threatening.

There's a correlation with the punch up/kick down rule too. Commonly, jokes that attack upwards (against political leaders, business executives, celebrities, etc.) are considered OK because the people they attack are considered out of harms way or can recover from the criticism. Where-as kicking down in considered in poor taste because it already damages people who aren't in any shape to take it.

You could translate this into the complained scenario earlier that people can't take a joke because the joke is a fundamentally racist one into this: it's in poor taste for a white person to tell a joke about black people to a black person because it's a kickdown in most cases on the basis that blacks in the US have historically had the shit-end of the stick like Native Americans. They's so far down on the ladder that it's just evil to kick them down when the other group is so high up.

That would explain Milo's career. I'm convinced the guy is just a failed comedian because his jokes are always way too on the nose, so instead of applying for TMZ, he figured out how to take being unfunny and turned it into something political.

I didn't really want to dive back into this, but I'll touch on this VERY briefly to see if I understand this right.

According to this "theory", whether you believe it or not is up in the air. But basically it's the equivalent of Privilege Points...so a black person will automatically have more leniency in saying black jokes than a white person. Because "whites" have unfairly treated blacks in the past history. So that would also assume literally everything would be that case, that you couldn't in good taste make a good joke about stupid people unless you were actually mentally disabled in some way? Or a joke about your wife, if you're not a women. But your mother could and it would make that joke better and more sensible?

Okay, to peel that back. People have been assholes to fucking everyone. Africa STILL has slavery...their 'black'. I can guarantee there treated worse now there. So does that standard hold any water?

articles.latimes.com/2013/oct/17/world..

Just ignoring the other cases, because I think the idea that certain jokes can't be said by certain people is a ridiculous standard that WILL enable double standard shit later down the line of questioning. And it could just endlessly be picked apart...

It also, absolutely ignores case by case basis's, most of my friends lived in the ghetto...and racial humor is literally almost always used when I'm around them. So if I told them, or if they told me "The moon" joke. (who hasn't heard that joke before?) It would be inappropriate because of our skin color and DISREGARD the whole "friends for years" thing. And honestly jokes are funnier the more absurd they are...which is exactly why trying to make them stale, or with what this theory implies force people to only tell jokes, that they're "allowed to". How fucking stale would it be if everyone was limited in that way? And I'd also argue I don't even think that's how human brains work anyway...I think there is a double standard in most comedy. And it has absolutely can't be excused as "well this happened, so therefore..." because most cultures have experienced many of the same trials and tribulations. Everyone is human after all...

So, in short don't know much about the theory, but it sounds really wrong to me. But I could very much see that being believed as a valid opinion to have. And it struck a chord.

@SleepingSilence so basically, you said there were NO political threads that remained civil, and even if we discount that one where we were JOKING around (calling ppl cucks) there is still 2 more than you said possible, so I'm right and you're wrong YAY. Also I saw you having a spat in that video game music thread with the OP. Are you going to tell me VGM is politics too?

See here is the difference, I NEVER said that people dont get nasty in political threads, I said its possible for them to be civil and lookie there, I was right.

You are also asserting that people ONLY get heated over political threads which I can also prove is totally false, people can get heated over ANYTHING.

But if your only counter is to shift goalposts and point out spelling mistakes then I'd say my work is done, enjoy the rest of your stay in my thread sir.

@Dinh AaronMk Brought a lot of the table to discuss with that one didn't ya?

No, the theory in my opinion holds absolutely no water in my eyes. It doesn't make any sense. That was my point...I'm also completely aware of the differences, so thanks for the implication otherwise. Scientifically backed theories have been proven wrong before. So why not now?

@Dynamo Frokane *reads first sentence* Nope. Didn't read what I said in my last post. So I will offer you the same curiosity and just skip the rest. (But just for clarity sake.)

"And since you're trying so hard to prove that there's some discussion where politics doesn't turn into toxic waste...and three threads is the best you got...I already can beat you on the number of things that turned nasty because of it...<.<"

This points out, even if I give you the leniency that some (in your case three) threads exist where people can be political without being cocks to one another. I pointed out, more often than not, it does happen. And said I have far more than three examples and threads of things that turned out bad because of politics was mentioned.
