Premises:
The year is 2450. Humanity has expanded beyond Earth, our cradle of life and to the coldest depths of space, expanding across the Orion arm of the galaxy and starting to expand into the Galactic Core. Managing the thousands of worlds that Humanity owns, is the Terran Hegemony. The Hegemony is powerful in many ways. It's ground forces are advanced, with heavy main battle tanks and mechas being common during most operations, from training to downright invasion. The Hegemony's air forces are also rather expansive and vast; Multi-role fighter-bombers, bombers, and other kinds of aircraft dominate the Hegemony's skies. Most impressive however, is the Hegemony's space fleet. Thousands of vessel make up the fleet. Plasma weaponry is being introduced, lasers are common, so are ion beams. The pride and joy of any Hegemony warship, however, are rail-guns. The heaviest warships in the Hegemony's space navy mount thousands of them.

Task Force Participation 101: The fleet and you.
You and your ship that you will design are part of Hegemony Deep Space Task Force 148, sent to the edge of the Orion arm of the Milky way, and bordering the Galactic Core. HDSTF148 will encounter a number of hostile entities, including aliens, space whales, more aliens, black holes, wormholes, supernovas, red giants, neutron stars, pulsars, and anything else that might maim, kill, or destroy.
But it's not all bad. Every in game month (10 action posts) HDSTF148 will be resupplied by the HSV Golden Gate. Each ship receives a basic allowance of goods as well as 1000 supply 'points' to spend on additional items. Basic resupply includes propellant, reactor fuel, basic nutritional meals, and water.

Hegemony Deep Space Task Force 148: Layout
1 Dreadnaught: HSV Mictlantecuhtli (FULL)
2 Cruisers: HSV Europa, HSV Nelson (FULL)
3 Space Control Destroyers: HSV Vespera, HSV The Vulture's Claw, HSV Trapper (FULL)
1 Fleet Repair Ship: HSV Resource (FULL)

Two questions: do we have a template for character creation, or are we free to do as we please?

Also, are you aware of the fact that the phrase "Rapere Solis" is a crime against Latin grammar?

@Admiralkio So how does the CS work? Do we kind of just fill out the crew for the ships ourselves?

Also what are "Space Control Destroyers"?

Working on the Fleet Repair Ship. Does the task group have a collier, or will spare ammo be carried on the FRS/supplied by UNREP ships?

I'll work on a destroyer. I'm a bit stumped on where to start with the schematics; I assume an easy route would be to scale down everything to 1/4 of the OP's example ship?

((Just my 2 cents, if the OP disagrees then ignore this.)) I would assume it sort of depends on what role you're thinking of for your destroyer. A guided missile destroyer that takes on enemy capital ships from a distance would be pretty heavily armoured, not necessarily the fastest, and bristling with long-range weapons. An escort destroyer, that interdicts enemy fighters/missiles would probably be very small and light, not necessarily the fastest, but have good computers and lots of PD weapons. A scout destroyer might be small and lightly armoured, but with an upgraded sensor suite and proportionally more/larger weapons. Basically, don't get too caught up in trying to standardise based on the example!

1. My Latin is shit. I must apologize.
There's no real character template, as i'm not intending for there to really be a character aspect as there is a ship aspect to this.
2. Crew is just, you know, how much crew you have on your ship. Stuff like that.
3. Space Control Destroyers are just a fancy name for Destroyers. Usually including gratuitous amounts of missiles in their weaponry load-out.
4. The easier route i'd say would be to think what you're aiming for: Direct assault, fire support, or anti-fighter/anti-bomber.
5. Perfect, ForeverBWFC. The fleet receives their ammo in the basic supply provisions from the Golden Gate, but i suppose the Dreadnaught of the fleet has an ammo fabricator for emergencies.

I'd like to join, is there a particular ruleset you are using or is it more or less free form? I'd like to work on a cruiser if that is agreeable.

The whole thing is more or less free-form in terms of rules. Anything too powerful will be met with equally powerful retaliation during events.

Do you mean then that all the posts of interaction and so on will be like your first IC post? If such then I must say I'm out, as it's not quite what I expected :P

Oh! No, no. My first IC post is simply setting the background for all of this, why TF148 was deployed. You can format your ship's post and any particular crew actions however you want.

@AdmiralkioAm I right assuming that the Haegemony is a multi-cultural/multi-civilizational nation which combines the tools of all nations?
I mean you imply that we are free to choose whatever equipment we want and even pick the appearance of the ship which follows design philosophies completely different from ours.

Also what are the limits or specifications on the technology we have?
I'm thinking of a main cannon which uses the FTL drive to send out a superluminal projectile for long range bombardment, for example.
My secondary armaments would also use field-reflected virtual light which in soft sci-fi language means I'll be shooting hard-light projectiles in combat.
I have many other ideas in mind but I just listed a few of the most important ones.

Would these be acceptable?

The FTL cannon is OK, though, hard-light is a no go. That is far beyond Humanity's current level of technology.
The Hegemony is rather Hellenistic, so yes. They take the best of all their colonies and put it into their government and military forces, most military however.

I can't see how hardlight is beyond humanity's level of technology when they have FTL travel.
As I said it's basically just the manipulation of forcefields and then getting that field to spin at high-relativistic velocities.
Thus light turns into something with effective mass and sorts of a presence.
I think the only example of hardlight people know from fiction is Halo and they somehow associate it with crazy advanced Forerunner technology.
If you have either energy shields or more or less tangible forcefields then you are also capable of producing hard light.
My version is a bit more complicated but if you have plasma weapons shooting contained balls of superheated gases then hardlight projectiles are about the same difficulty.

Seriously, I see more complications for externally assisted warp travel (FTL catapults as long range kinetic kill cannons) than anything with hardlight.
