Oh, I know it is. Balance is always hard... at least, it is for me, but, then again, I can't take two steps without falling on my face, so what do I know about that stuff, right? :P

Does my last post work? I'm only thinking of dragon mode getting them there, then she goes back to taguel mode. That does depend on whether her offer is taken up this time or not.

@Cyrania

I see no problems. One thing I'm curious of, are you moving towards or away?

will be respomding tonight, still have work to do. Although ine thing: @Cyrania ,my guy would not leave his chocobo behind... Although I can make him escape I think. Chocobo can jump rather high, so I could make him possibly jump over the risen and escape that way...

At least... is there a problem with that plan @Leolycan . Maybe I could make him do trample damage trying to escape?

Maybe. But the Undead are going to retaliate, so it's not without risks.

Why couldn't the chocobo ride on the dragon, @Evanist? With dragons being the size of a barn, the only problem the chocobo might have is panicing a bit and shoving its claws into Jo-Anne's back, causing her some damage. But as long as it doesn't kill her, she would still transport it.

@Leolycan I was thinking of moving towards the Esper since we are the closest to it.

Well, the choice is, go toward the dark esper and have to content with an army on all sides, or head back to the fortress and have some protection and more warriors at the cost of endangering innocents. I think we should retreat.

Kinda think the same also... get back to the group of people and help out... Retreat might be better.

Would anyone like a GM hint? Or play it by ear? To be honest, I didn't expect anyone to rush out, so at this point- you're in deeper than even I expected.

On first thought I'd say play by ear cause that sounds more fun, but on the other hand I wouldn't like everyone to die. So i'm good with either.

Unless you're trying to pull some FF2 Black knights stuff, it's usually not a good idea to start the game completely outmatched. You could have Robin say what needs to be said, though.

I've got specific events mapped out by relative time. What you do in between those events is up to you. I scripted the appearance of a horde- I did not expect people to run into the bulk of the horde. I had planned on the dark esper appearing, I however leave the party in charge of what happens from there. I will say that the parties actions have negated on event that would've made this engagement easier- and I think I've hinted to that enough >.>

Well... if attacking the dark esper is what made that happen, keep in mind that at least two of us here are gamers, we operate by game logic. If a big threat shows up in a game, you'd usually attack that first, as not only does it usually destroy you faster, but it also often has some way of infinitely calling in/reviving/otherwise producing the smaller threats, making destroying the smaller threats pointless in that situation.

So everyone on Jo-Anne wants to retreat back to the main army then? Maybe then she could stay dragon long enough to ferry more people to it. Unless the retreat allows the event to finally trigger and disable the Dark Esper. (I wouldn't mind a GM hint.)

I did plan on going for a retreat save at first, but it seemed people didn't want to retreat back, That is why I was a bit... stuck on being with the other guys. Lucky for my armor I guess.
Anyway ya... A hint might be good... we are trying to retreat possibly to get more help.

Hint is very simple. Run from the Esper. Right now, the esper was just supposed to be a menacing figure that riled up the few undead that were left after the summons (narrowing the number from like 80 to 20), and gave you guys an idea of what is to come in the story. I don't think you'll be up to facing a Dark Esper until Character level 10 or so, but I am building the story around your actions so- good luck if you continue.

Again, you could do something to tip our characters off... I had a slight idea that's what you wanted us to do after you told us that you didn't want us to fight the thing. You could have Robin figure out that the thing's too tough for us, and have us all evacuate the town. Have things deal no (or almost no) damage to the thing, and we'd get the point. (well, except for Evanist, every time I try to throw a (final or otherwise) boss preview at him in a mini RP, he tries to come up with new powers just so he can beat the thing.)
