Would be interested in playing a mechanical species. Although I'd prefer to go for individual AI's rather than a hive-mind or solo-master AI.

You make an excellent point, Asuras.

My only argument is that you have to have a base from which to grow from, and that would be the Goldilocks Zone, which puts your civilization's homeworld close enough to a star to generate liquid water and thus habitation. The amount of water (and thus hydrogen and oxygen) would help determine the inevitable size of the creatures that inhabit the world. Many paleontologists believe the reason that dinosaurs were so large was a byproduct of a much larger amount of oxygen in the atmosphere than has been in the last several million years.

I'm in No way opposed to larger than life civilizations, but you'd have to justify it how a civilization advanced so quickly.

Skylar, you'll definitely have your pick. I'm devising some mechanics for the various civilizations AS WE SPEAK.

I would be descended from a series of industrial, commercial, and industrial robots that survived a biological apocalypse that wiped out their creators. The big point is that they arn't all killbots. A large number are peaceful machines out to fulfill their directives in life, and their military is mostly defensive. Mostly.

EDIT: Although I do also have plans for a hyper-consumerist, hedonistic faction, also using extensive robotics. Hmm. Choices.

Oh, by the way, will we be sticking to aliens races which are relatively humanoid in morphology, for the sake of simplicity, or are we encouraged to go with wildly unusual Starfish Alien designs?

(In other words, should our species look like this or this, or something in between?)

Non-humanoid aliens are definitely on the table, but that will largely be fluff and have little to do with mechanics.

Just curious when you say at the beginning of our nation space travel, do you mean their first ever FTL capable ship? Or they just establishing themselves in their own system with a few ships etc...?

That would honestly make sense. When you consider how advanced a civilization probably is upon the discovery of FTL technology, it goes to reason that they've established a reasonable foothold in their own systems using sublight travel. I'd reckon many of the nations that will feature in this RP probably did so out of a need for more space to settle a growing population, or that they aim to take advantage of the asteroids and gas giants that reside within their system (provided such celestial bodies actually exist).
