Souls in my setting are technically referring to the "life" of something. The soul exists long before any sort of consciousness does, the moment something qualifies as alive. What people would consider the soul is more a combination of the consciousness and the soul. The consciousness is formed by a person, well, actually being a person, it's their personality, thoughts, and memories.

This means, for example, that a true ghost is actually the consciousness combined with some portion of the soul. This also means that a soul taken to create a homunuculus("recently dead" is all that's required and can be gained from going to a morgue or, well, killing somebody) is just life energy, just what caused life to come to that person. Which is also why you need it to make a homunculus since they need something to make them alive.

Now, this doesn't totally shoot down your character. Severely botching the transferal of the soul might accidentally nab the consciousness.

One of them is solely allied with the church, the other hasn't been in town for a decade. So no. On the plus side, neither of them are going to kill what's basically a child.

I honestly didn't get what you meant at first, but I think I do.

I need a reason for that soul to go into the newly made body, correct? I made several mentions of greed and Arata wanting to obtain the Origin, but I don't think I clearly mentioned that Arata allowed himself to be killed and took the deal to become a Homunculi. Maybe I could rework my app on that part?

Or was it something else I messed up?

Also, I am totally not going to have Arata steal a car from our resident vampire if he gets accepted and run onver Magi before eventually crashing into a shop.

You do realise how ridiculously hard it would be to steal a modern, high-end sports car? It's not happening. You'd just pick another fight for no reason. :P

@VitaVitaAR I think I may have done it right? Only made a few alterations since I'm on a phone currently.

I might read the Shi app that recently appeared to procure a grip on what you're looking for.

@Savo: Shi might give you a good idea of what homunculi are like, yes. ^^;

So Homunculi are programmed to function in different ways... messing up the soul transfer can screw with the consciousness, leaving dire consequences.

Alright, I think I might have it this time... maybe... Made mention of the Magi purposely screwing up the soul transfer to turn Arata into a slave; only caused him to forget his original name... maybe I'll cut some memories out of his childhood to ensure things go smoothly.

At any rate, time to finish this app!

@Dead Cruiser: I'm not so sure about this. You don't really go into his abilities very much, so with the vague nod to his sealing spells, he's either overpowered or underpowered, it's hard to tell. Blank Canvas edges into an area I don't really like in RPs(perfect ability copying) as well as making him kind of ineffective if it's his primary combat ability given its limitations.

@Savo: "Programming" a homunculus is one of the reasons to even make them, along with the ability to determine physical capabilities. It's essentially custom-making a human, with all the skills and physical traits you want. You can make them, from the moment they're alive, instinctively know how to do things with the same level of skill as someone who has trained their whole life. You can make killing come to someone as naturally as breathing. Messing up during creation of a homunculus can have some pretty horrible results, though.

Also the transfer would have to have happened very, very quickly, since the soul lingers around the corpse for faaaaar longer than the consciousness part does.
