Hello there! Glad you decided to visit my interest check!

I am a somewhat experienced Dungeon Master in the fifth edition of D&D with quite a bit of free time in my hands this summer, so I thought I could kill some of it by running a campaign here on the forums. Our adventure will be the very first official fifth edition adventure from WotC (if you don't count Lost Mine of Phandelver) Hoard of the Dragon Queen which some of you might have noticed from the title. Now, onto the technical side of things...


  • I am looking for a party of 3-5 adventurers, which would make us a 6 man RP at most.
  • Please refrain from making Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil characters. This was the recommendation of the Adventurer's League for this and I'd like to stick with it.
  • We will be using an external site for our character sheets, one that the DM of my last forum D&D game showed me, called DM Royale. I'll link it once/if we get the actual thread up.
  • Character stats will have to be assigned via Point Buy or Standard Array. I am against rolling them because that has the potential to lead into 1st level characters having way too good modifiers and unbalanced power distribution in the party.
  • Feel free to roll your starting money for equipment if you want to, though. The benefits the extra gear may bring are usually temporary enough and your character may get in that one bit of extra flavour by carrying different equipment.


So there's that. I am also in the possession of the aforementioned adventure LMoP if you want to try that instead, but as Hoard has material for longer I've chosen to set it as the default for this.

@VKAllen Yeah, you would either need to create an entirely new character or reassign your ability scores. As I said, rolling is not an option this time around. It's just how I operate as a DM. Welcome to the crew!

I happened to drop by. I'm no stranger to 5e, though I'm no vet either. However I've never done a tabletop rp before. If you're willing to teach me the ropes and tolerate any mistakes I may make, you have my blade.

Somewhat interested depending on if I can get something figured out I guess. ^^; One question, though: are we just running core, or is stuff from Elemental Evil/Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide/Unearthed Arcana allowed too?

Am I glad to see that my game has gathered interest! I've already reached the amount of players I was looking for, so I guess I'll be putting up the OOC soon-ish. Probably not today, as I've got places to be, but expect it to pop up tomorrow.

As for the questions I was asked, I am more than willing to help people with any problems they have with acquainting themselves with the D&D ruleset, so feel free to join! Harbinger has been quite helpful as well from what I've seen, so you should have no trouble if you are willing to learn!

Then comes the question of how much of the available content we would be using... I am going to be bold and say most of it! The Elemental Evil content is fine as is, but I personally lack the Sword Coast Adventure Guide and thus cannot say anything about it. Unearthed Arcana is mostly all good, just throw your idea at me first so I can take a look at the source and determine if I think it'll be good for this game!

Cool beans. I don't suppose you know where we can get out hands on other supplimentary materials? I only have access to the core rulebook.

I may also have questions about the amount of creative liberties we can give for our characters. I hope they aren't too much for you, but stuff you may want to have been told about.

@Lucius CypherUnearthed Arcana's easy enough to find, just go here and put the "narrow down" bar onto "Unearthed Arcana". XD And here's Elemental Evil too. Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide is a little more tricky to link though, since it's an actual physical book but yeah.

For those in need, I have access to all of the Unearthed Arcana material to date, as well as the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Plane Shift Zendikar.

The more exotic material within might not be appropriate to the campaign at hand, but some of the less extreme options fit as easily as one would expect within the modularity of Fifth Edition.

The question of creative liberty has surfaced and the answer to this question is to PM me! We should be able to come to a decision both of us are happy with, assuming your initial suggestion makes sense (aka no playing as Beholders, Mind Flayers, etc. nor fishing for insane gameplay bonuses). I'm all in the favour of flavour!

Don't expect much input in the next twelve hours or so. I have things to do, including sleeping :P

@Rin, @Lucius Cypher, then that would make the party consist of a barbarian, paladin, ranger and a warlock-sorcerer. So workable, well within reason for this edition, especially a published module.
