War. War never changes.™

We all know that part in every NS guide for every NRP ever basically. That part where we spend hours looking up cool pictures for and coming up with cool names and how to ensure that our tank can fuck up everyone else's day. Only to never use it. Its almost sad sometimes.

Thus, instead of making yet another NRP about making nations and having them play the long game, let us make nations just to make cool battles and shit with!. Inspired by the Fires of Anuria series of NRPs on the site, this NRP will be focused exclusively on the military aspect of a nation/empire as they battle it out. This NRP will basically be an exercise in story and combat writing for those of you who want your fix

Three important points I am going to stress however:

1) You cannot win. There is no end to the war, there is no victory to be had, just bloodshed and carnage. This is just war writing for fun.

2) Things will be dark, not edgy. The main difference between the two is that dark writing always has hope in it some how, as grimdark and crapsac as this NRP will be, characters and soldiers will still be caring some form of hope and not just be self loathing edgy bitches. This doesn't mean you can't have badass moments though.

3) Rule of Cool is definitely in affect here but I will still be looking for some semblance of reason and balance. I'm not going to allow every single one of your soldiers to carry a Holy Flaming Bastard Sword of Brutal Skullfucking +99 or your tanks to fire out nuclear munitions at 1200 RPM. To sort of "control" this, I will be using a sort of Heroes and Tier system kind of close to that use in Total War as well as just being a hardass GM on NS.

Now for settings:

- High Fantasy Medieval/Renaissance
- World Wars-esque setting (say which you have preferance too)
- World Wars with steampunk/dieselpunk
- SciFi on a single planet and limited space engagements
- Post Apoc styled

This will be high fantasy a la Warhammer Fantasy-style

Thanks for reading! ^^
Any questions I will see to answer as fast as possible.

Unofficial NS Guide (expect edits and changes)

I might be interested, dont tend to do much war but something I might want to try at some point.

Will there be magic or "Weird shit" in any of these? World War 1 with "Weird science" and stuff could be fun, or world war II.

Im sure any of those settings could work.

@LucidnonsenseMagic will be most prevent in the older eras with limited use of it in the world wars and the future not using any.

Hrmmm I might be interested in playing a Renaisance nation that has started to industrialize magic or something, that would be interesting. But any of the roleplay ideas could be fun.

DEFINITLY INTERESTED!

I'd opt for something like the old Fires of Anuria thread. Large scale battle on a single planet with some space engagements.

But I'd also be very much up for some good ol' high fantasy!

@Lucidnonsense@Bright_Ops@Legion02@RisenDead@POOHEAD189

I think we have a decent little group here. I take it that everyone is okay with doing the SciFi option of something like Fires of Anuria?

I'll try to get a OCC up this week with a NS guide sooner. ^^

Have you a link to this "Fires of Anuria" thread you chaps keeping yammering on about?

And I am all for something older in style, where we will not get into debates about technology and such. It's a lot easier to write about warfare when everyone has different variations of swords and bows, rather than tanks, planes, trucks, spaceships, etc.

@RisenDead He does have a fair point. With high fantasy we can't try to over tech each other. Then again, in FoA there were factions with larger ships, better tech and all that stuff but it turned out okay as long as those with very super high tech stuff only had limited number and other limitations posed upon them.

Might actually consider high fantasy now.

Probably will do it just as an expriement since I'm curious.

Having said that, now that you mention High Fantasy, we'll probably have the same issue with magic. But at least no one can engage an orbital bombardment, or just nuke a section of the world.

Also works with your Warhammer theme. Heck, I am sure some of us could even use the species from War hammer since they are all designed to be balanced already. For the most part.

Its easier to balance magic than it is to balance out an army's worth of tecnology.

I would love to use Warhammer races but I'm afraid people might find it limiting creativity wise. I think it still could work out though as long as people don't just copy past in the Empire or Bretonnia or something.

Yea, who would do that... How silly... *Quietly deletes Empire copy and pasted character sheet*.

It would give us a rough starting place and then we can wage war to our hearts content without the ever present, "Oops, we blew up the world". Though that apparently happened in Warhammer recently.

DO.
NOT.
SPEAK.
OF.
THE.
ENDTIMES.
HERETIC.

Seriously, the Endtimes aka the Fuckening was a bunch of jank ass businness disicions on GW's part to try and sell Age of Shitmar. @_@

But yeah, I guess some minors edits could work so we have a few different types of nations instead of just carbon copies of canon unless people really want to just do canon.

Although call me out on this, but Age of Sigmar wasn't anywhere near as horrendous as someone makes it out to be.

I'm more pissed off that they decided to do AoS instead of, I dunno, actually trying to fix WFB?
Plus with TW Warhammer there was going to be a surge in Warhammer interest. They should have done something involve Warhammer and rode that wave instead of coming out with a gimmicky charaches table top.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer it if they did something with WFB too, but I don't have that hate for AoS that a lot of people do. I'd still prefer to do a Fires of Anuria-esque roleplay.
