@Jedly: ... Ah, here we're getting into some of the more complicated mechanics of the soul and stuff in-setting. I'm not sure about this idea, in part because of those mechanics.

@VitaVitaARWell, Styx really only has presidence over souls sprouting from expired vessels, so the deceased. I'm not sure how influential this is, since it only applies to certain circumstances. I'll gladly work with you on working out the kinks/setting boundaries.

Well, the thing is, technically speaking in-universe there's two parts to the soul. There's basically just life energy, which is stuck in a body and makes it live, and then there's the consciousness, which begins existing when the body is actually capable of thought and is what actually constitutes a ghost and is what actually goes to whatever's beyond the veil.

Technically, the life essence just sort of lingers for a bit, since it's the body no longer being able to use it rather then it running out. This is how homunculi can be made.

Part of my concern here is that the afterlife and mechanics related to it(aside from ghosts) are deliberately left vague in this setting.

@VitaVitaARWhich is why I wrote that the Ankou actually have no clue where they are sending the souls(well, consciousness now). Technically, they don't even know if Death is a legitimate existence. All they have as evidence is the drive to escort consciousnesses to whatever lies beyond through incantations and other means. They kind of just unanimously concluded that somebody must be the bossman among them.
