the story of Clyde [+]

Born in a Kelpie herd that roamed the lands of fall, Clyde had always felt happy. He ran around the fields together with his family. His mother was the only mare in the group, destined to lead them. Female Kelpie were born rarely and the change of one being born is very low. So the whole herd celebrated when against all odds a new mare was born into the herd. The girl got the name Caoimhin, Aoi was the name the rest of the herd called her by. Clyde spent a lot of time with his sister, forming a strong bond as they not only roamed the Fae world but the human lands as well.

One of their favorite places to go were the white limestone cliffs that seperated the land, with a steep fall, from the sea. They ran around drowning men here and there, draggin their mortal souls to an early and black death. One day, fourty years ago in mortal years Aoi and Clyde where running around the hills, the long grass waving with the motion of he wind. Perfectly hiding whatever it wanted to, wich was the intention of the man who had laid down a trap, hoping to catch a bunny, at best a deer. As always Clyde ran infront not noticing where he placed his hoofs, only to be reminded that he always had to. With a quick movement a beartrap clenshed itself around Clyde’s leg, the iron of it burning in his skin. Clyde fell down while his sister stood besides him distressed. Clyde took on his human form trying to push the beartrap open, hoping to free his leg. The moment he touched the iron of the trap his hands started to burn as well, making him release the trap. For one whole night the both of them struggled with the trap, hope fading by the time dawn broke. The red morninglight revealed a man walking down the hill. Suprised to see two horse standing besides his trap the man took of his hat to get a better look. Aoi noticed the man and ran towards him, beggin him to open the trap and to release her brother. The man got stunned by the fact a horse spoke, but he soon remembered the story about Kelpie running around the lands. The man explained that if he sold this Kelpie he had caught he would have enough money to hire a nanny to watch over his childeren, for his wife had died not long ago.

Desperate to safe her brother out of the hands of mortals she offerd the man a deal. Aoi revealed her human form and promised that she would care for the childeren if the man would release her brother. Clyde had heard the deal she was about to make and in a desperate attempt to stop her he cried out. She was the only mare the herd had, she could not leave them. Aoi ignored her brothers plea as the man scanned her. He would agree to the deal on two conditions

1: she would tell him her real name, he knew she could not disobey him if he had it.
2: she would marry him.

Aoi agreed to the terms and a promise was made. The man was rejoiced by the fact that he had gotten such a beautifull young wife and gladly released Clyde from the trap. The man and Aoi quickly married in the following week, sentencing Aoi to be with him for the rest of his life. Her only spec of happiness where the two childeren the man’s first wife had left behind. A young boy in the age of 14 that went by the name of James and a small girl in the age of 7 that got blessed with the name Elenore. Clyde stayed with the family for a while before his sister urged him to return to the herd He reluctandly left the human world and returned to his own, explaining to the herd what had happend. The shock of loosing her daughter that way made Erwyn weak and sickly. It didn’t take long for the old Fae to succumb to her pain, she passed away leaving her herd behind. Saddend by his mothers sudden death Clyde ran to the human word to fnd his sister. She as well cried when she recieved the news of her mothers death. From the moment their mother died Clyde started to visit his sister more and more while also leading the herd. His father had left the herd, giving the new generation a chance to take over. He formed a strange bond with the daughter of the man he hated. He watched Elenore grow from a shy little thing to a beautifull young woman.

He wished to take the girl with them the moment his sister had gotten free from her promise, but humans are frail. They died fast and soon Elenore would die as well. The only way to keep her alice was to change her into a seasonborn. Not having the slightes clue on how to do that Clyde returned to the fae world to figure out how to change someone. It took him a fewl years to find someone who wanted to explain it to him, and once he had learned how to do it he rushed back. Hoping to change Elenore the same night. What he found however would change all of his plans.

While he was absent Aoi and her husband hat gotten in a fight. He wanted to marry Elenore tos ome old lecher for the money. Aoi could not stand that and raised her voice. The man angered by her resistance called out her true name and stabbed her with the long end of an pointy iron cross. This had resulted in her death.

Blinded by anger Clyde first drowned the son infront of the eye’s of his father, his next victim would be Elenore. The man had to suffer. Elenore ran and ran towards the beach, she ran desperate for her life. Cornering her on the beach Clyde grabbed her wrist with a sadistic grin

‘’it will be over in a minute love, you won’t feel a thing’’ He said to her. Waves crashed down on the beach and from them enmerged another black kelpie, pulling Elenore out of Clyde’s grip. The two kelpies circled around one another before Clyde laid a claim on Elenore.

He explained the situation, and was prepared to even bring this to a court to be judged. The other kelpie however had a stronger claim on her as he laid his hand on her belly.

‘’she is mine, she carries our daughter’’ He said, but he realized that there was indeed a unpaid debt that needed to be settled. Shocked by this development Clyde circled around them thinking of a plan. The child was female, he could use her and not to mention she would have half the blood of a pure kelpie.

‘’I will allow Elenore to live, in exchange for the child she now carries’’ Clyde said. He woud turn the girl into a seasonborn after he had taken her from her mothers arms. Elenore cried into the arms of the other Kelpie as he agreed tot his. Clyde took his leave, he had gotten himself a new leading mare for the herd.

Eight months later Clyde came to claim the child. The other kelpie had left Elenore, he could not handle the guild of trading his own daughters life away for the life of his wife. He had however changed Elenore in a seasonborn, resulting in the birth of a new full blooded kelpie. Seeing Elenore broken and emotionaly hurt Clyde took pity on her. As a sign of respect for the love his sister had for the girl he decided to have her raise the child until she became an adult. He never asked for the girls true name, she would tell him that herself. The only name he got from Elenore was Laira.

The girl became an adult, and Laira was unware of her kelpie nature. Her mother had commited suicide by trying to reach her beloved man. And just as planned he got the full name of Laira. He had jet t odetermen if Laira was worthy enough to lead the herd so he put on a test for her. She had to find him in the fae world, leaving her with a clue. And once she found him, Clyde would make Laira his wife.
