Yes, Fungi could be a sentient race could they not? Perhaps not a huge power, but an immense number of neurochemical connections.

Are we going to delve into the creation theory behind the world, or will we just make it up for each individual culture as we go? I'm thinking, big ass primordial being just weaving stars n shit, so intent on that task that he isn't even aware of all sub-products his work is creating i.e. powerful beings that could be thought of as gods becoming unintentional, physical manifestations of each individual sun that's created. Who in turn go off on their own chaotic creation spree, and then *poof*, we got our planet.

What if the Fungi live in a cave system, and have a parasitic relationship with a more mobile creature that goes to the surface for them?

On second thought, we need to also think about the non-fungi in our world.

Some random names off the top of my head using an old trick whereby I start with 'A' and make up nonsense/obscure/altered words until I arrive at a name I like:

Aleph / Alcabrere / Arghest
Bapha / Barghest /
Caena / Caetha / Corvis / Coringar etc.
Darrow / Dithe
Ephome / Epolia / Etolia / Elgarde
Fraema / Fecund (keeping with a mushroom theme) /
Gilgaron / Gehest / Gargath / Gilmoran
Hel / Heroth / Hapbft (old lovecraft trick to cram consanants together) /
