Blutland

1910

Old Blood spilt once more

After the recent recognition of rightful territory of Blutland within Tyro-Antari borders in exchange for the territory of Dilsen, King Arnold von Titanus has brought into question the sovereign right the Tyro-Antari Empire to rule over said lands. “Already do the Tyrians struggle with rebellion from the Antari they wish so dearly to hold onto. Their lands plagued with corruption. Their people wallowing in death. Their own army far to demoralized to fight back. No longer shall we remain idle as our brothers continue to rot.

If it means we must continue the fight started nearly seven years ago, then so be it. Citizens of Blutland stand strong. People of the cause remain strong willed. May the gods watch over us today, as they have always. For it is our kingdom, our blood, our people that we shall claim their rightful glory over the Tyro-Antari cur.”

The speech drew a crowd unlike any other seen. Many believe war had already begun, but King Arnold von Titanus was not as quick to fight as he lead many to believe. A demand was sent to the Tyro-Antari ambassador Laczko Atilla that negotiations were to take place immediately, else things would be settled on the battlefield.

Mobilization

As the Tyro-Antari Empire begins to struggle with inner turmoil and general inefficiency, 200,000 Blutland troops, the entirety of the standing mainland army, begin to move to the border with Tyro-Antari. Though no official declaration of war has been made seven hundred 60mm Glaskanonens had been set-up and troops have begun to drill on the border.

General Aayden Einhorn is instructed with personally leading the battle against the Tyro-Antari, instructed that any troops of an unknown origin seen crossing the river are to be shot and killed with no questions asked and the invasion of Tyro-Antari is to be taken into full effect.

Sessau-Blutland trade deal

After the recent offer for the purchase of ships at a set price, the foreign ambassador of Sessau came to the Blutland Naval Acadamy with an offer of two Armored Cruisers in exchange for twenty Hadukken A.I's and a sum of $1,700,000. In desperate need for ships to protect shipping, the offer was quickly accepted.

SALUTE TO THE FALLEN

October 1st to 15th, 1910

Tyro-Antarian Empire: The Carlsburg Report is released on October 4th. It discovers, contrary to two eye witness testimony and several botched location reports of the involved regiment, that the Tyro-Antarian soldiers did cross illegally into Jouran territory and: "..attempted to apprehend two dozen Jouranian criminals known for entering Tyro-Antarian territory and ruthlessly attacking sovereign citizens. The report has concluded the men acted according to their training and will furthermore be acquitted of any pending charges."
[Tyro-Antarian Empire gains 2 Prestige]

Kingdom of Jouran: The Carlsburg Report was simultaneously released in neighboring Jouran and the reaction was pandemonium. In the capital, a Tyro-Antarian industrialist, Joachim Ulder, was attacked in the street, pulled from his carriage and brutally beaten. Those responsible were swiftly rounded up, but the mood was foul. Discussions on the incessant killing of Jouran citizens by soldiers of the Tyro-Antarian Empire, a long time source of oppression in the nation. Jouran's official response was pending.

Aftermath of the release of the Carlsburg Report, Jouran, 1910

Empire of Saurilia: Denouncing the Republic of Kavonia, Saurilian military attaché's warned the nation of it's partial mobilization of forces over an incident that had long died months ago. In respond, former general and current president President Miklos Oscar scoffed at the issue on August 6th. On August 9th however, he ordered the demobilization of the Kavonian National Army.

Seljuk Empire: While still dealing with the Karalian Uprising, the artillery barrage was renewed in early October--until ammunition as a whole was exhausted. While hesitant, General Hassan Mahmed realized that Karalia would not fall for several more weeks, even months, and so he ordered preparations for a general assault at the end of the month. The troops went about preparing for the inevitable attack, hoping they would at least fair better than their Saurilian allies.

Republic of Zellonia

Republic of Kavonia

The President of Zellonia wishes to extend the hand of friendship to kavonia. Sending Ambassador Grif Conrad, hoping to speak with the current presidents and assure them that Zellonia will stand behind them and should have no fear from the Saurilians.

Colonization Efforts of Strength

After the recents news of both the attack in Leylon and Suryana. The government felt it best to send 30,000 men and 20 Light Cannons under the command of the recently appointed General Matthew to suryana and put down further native attacks they will be escorted by 4 destroyers the “Pride” “Devor” “Expanse” and “Knowledge” 2 Light Cruisers “Evidence” “Forgotten” an armoured cruiser “Devastation” and a dreadnought “Victory” . Also at the request of Governor Matthew 10,000 men and 10 cannons would be sent to Leylon to protect from the current civil war. While the others will be escroted by 3 destroyers “Clovus” “Friendship” “Allegiance” and an Armoured Cruisers “Brokenhearted”

Militarization

With the recent rise of world tensions and hostilities around our colonies the need for more soldiers is ever increasing. As such the Zellonian Army and Navy have begun massive recruitment sprees trying to get able young men and join the best and most professional fighting forces in the world. That when the largest arty design is ready will have the largest firepower.

The Saurilian Empire

Gun Money

The Tyro-Antarians had come the Saurilian government with a strange request, they wanted to buy guns from the Empire itself as tensions between the Bludlands and the Tyro-Antrans heated to no end. These people were no friends to the Saurilians, but they were no enemies either with the two nations being fairly alike. So, the government had signed off that it would release the weaponry in exchange for money and that the Tyro-Antarans would help rearm Saurilia after the war.

Travelling abroad

Sauilian colonial efforts are finally arriving once more as the news of the lands, and careful consideration from the government, settlers are being sent off to have the Empire encompass more land. It is a rather cheerful sight when the citizens of the Empire are so willing to go spread the influence of Saurilia herself. These people are in high hopes to finally stake a claim on the small island that they would be going to, wanting to start anew in a different land while still wanting to be a part of the empire and all her glory. Zellonian colonization would not deter these men and women and soon they exited the harbor with many a people waving goodbye and wishing these colonists good luck on their adventures.

SALUTE TO THE FALLEN

Late October

October 16th
  • The Machinengunnen-10 machine gun was based on the successful Havka gun of the Empire of Saurilia, at least on paper. After creating the Hadukken company outright in 1910, the company took the design of the Havka gun and improved it, reducing its weight by lightening and simplifying the action and substituting components made with high strength alloys. The MG-10 was unique in that it was not created by government ordinance but rather by sheer will and testament of private designers. The initial batches--240 of them--reached the Blutlander Army just as tensions with neighboring Tyro-Antari reached a new high.

  • In the Republic of Staratia, Ferdi and Leopold Industries finish their initial designs on the LF-75mm Cannon. With a completed blueprint, Ferdi and Leopold only needed the go-ahead for production to begin. I is a thoroughly conventional gun, being a modernized version of Ferdi's earlier LF-72mm gun, but fails to incorporate any recoil system other than a partially effective spade brake, and fires a 12-pound projectile. Ferdi and Leopold Industries could build these for a price of $4,800 a piece and a maximum of 47 pieces a month at their Ferdinand Plant in Northern Staratia.

October 18th
The Kaiserliche und Königliche Luftfahrtruppen or K.u.K. Luftfahrtruppen is established in the Tyro-Antarian Empire. The Imperial and Royal Aviation Corps, it's based at the National Flight Academy at Ipswich and officially graduates twenty men--many of them from lowly ranked infantry brigades with high aptitudes and brazen attitudes into the the Jagdfliegerkompanie.1, the 1st Fighter Squadron.

The men are eager for war, but the Tyro-Antarian Empire must first decide the fate of the Kaiserliche und Königliche Luftfahrtruppen or K.u.K. Luftfahrtruppen

Fate of the Imperial and Royal Aviation Corps
-- Attach it to the Imperial Army: The IRAC will exist as an extension of the Imperial Army, acting to aid in maintaining the supremacy of ground forces and devoting research in that particular direction.

-- Attach it to the Imperial Navy: The IRAC will become a joint naval organization, blossoming into theories of naval aviation, though with squadrons--for now--still able to conduct over land operations.

-- The IRAC Will Exist Independently: The Imperial and Royal Aviation Corps will be a standalone organization that will develop technologies at it's own pace, have it's own command staff and operational strategies and tactics.

October 19th
After several days of deliberation, despite efforts to put a Zellonian fleet together to strengthen Leylon and relieve Surayanna, a fleet is still not dispatched. Zellonian Naval Bureau admits that due to paperwork errors and fleet logistics in an admiral being appointed of an established fleet. General Matthew raged, citing Zellonian bureaucracy as the reason why Zellonian colonists were dying while the Zellonian fleet sorted out paperwork.

October 20th
On October 20th, word reaches of the Surayannan Attacks that occurred a week earlier. The Surayannan rebels, declaring themselves the Oiuirati, seized the military garrison of Zellonian Surayanna--seizing the stockpile of ZLR-012 rifles and a handful of grenades. The Surayannans however flee the Oiuirati, despising them almost as much as the Zellonians who landed only weeks ago.

Oiuirati soldiers, circa 1910

The Oiuirati control over twenty percent of the island, with enclaves situated on the coast home to coast watchers--constantly on the look out for Zellonian ships--and hidden bases where the Oiuirati strike out at night to attack Surayannans at their own will.

October 21st-October 31st
The last week and a half of October, 1910 was encapsulated in a small piece of rural land in the Meung Dominion. The Xianese Republic, under the guise of President Wan-Yen's idea of a "free and broad minded, modern nation," was now fighting for it's life. It was victory or as General Chi Haotian wrote in his journal: "We will either match as victors, or kneel as servants."

The 1st NRA Army marched east, with the very same General Chi Haotian leading them. Their objective was the city of Dading. General Chi Haotian anticipated a tough battle for the major trading hub, with freshly mobilized Dominion troops dug in and waiting. The march itself was grueling, with very little in the way of paved roads and a populace that was apathetic to who was ruling them. It was poverty either way.

Soldiers of the 1st NRA receiving news from home, October, 1910

After six days march, the 1st NRA Army reaches the city of Dading, a home of almost thirty-one million people. Without defenses, General Haotian is shocked. Wilder still is that there is no army protecting the great swathe of land. On the last day of October, General Haotian and the 184th Infantry Regiment become the first to enter the city of Dading. It's provincial governor had fled northeast toward Dominion controlled territory. Immediately after, General Haotian wrote back to President Wan-Yen on the capture of the primitive industrial complex deep in the heart of the city. The Wutang First Complex is tooled for mosaics and glassware but with a few rudimentary changes could have rifles or even large artillery pieces churned out starting in December.

The Republic of Staratia

Map of Staratia:

The City of Tarind , the capital of the great republic of Staratia , where most of the government resides and where the big decisions are made by the president and the congress , all of his happens in one district in the city where most of the government buildings are connected by road , the security is not very tight and permits a lot of people to go through , like journalists and workers , giving the impression that the people should not feel limited by it's government at all something that sometimes is true and sometimes it's not . The government buildings were modernized in 1905 with most of them been made by several famous architects from different regions of Staratia , they were given the orders to show the multiculturalism of Staratia and because of that many buildings share at least one typical characteristic of architecture from either the west , the north , the east or the south of Staratia.

The Police force of Tarind is very well funded by the government and has been considered the best in Staratia for a long time , this is one the best places for the police to work on as rich people can grant them favours among other things if they rescue them or make a blind eye or something.

The city is near the river Galir , where there are at least three districts of the city , most of those districts are considered to be suburban and the situation is neither the best or worse economically , those three districts are where the most peaceful people lives coming from several parts of Staratia seeking to make an honest living and live in calm.

The urban districts are in the other hand not so calm and activity is relatively everywhere , soldiers , workers , government officials and others , walk through the wide streets of Staratia endlessly , this is the result of the industrialization of Staratia that started quite a while ago slowly and has been given an impulse by the government this year to move the society to a more industrialized one , this industrialization has given many ideas to artist that paints half roads one part paved and with smoke while the other non-paved and with green pastures and a bright sun.

Khanate Raids

With the raids of the Khanate coming up to us we have decided to mobilize 10,000 soldiers from the garrison of Droven to take them down , under the command of the famous general Johanes Barian.

Kavonia will be protected

First with the Jourans and now with the Saurilians , it seems that the Kavonians would not be able to stand with so many dangers and nations willing to destroy their republic and preach autocracy , something very despicable in Staratia and Staratian politicians had already promise to protect Kavonia from further threats and the Staratian population don't take failed promises lightly , the democratic tradition of Staratia is still strong even if there is corruption and inneffiency within the republic , Staratia shall remain the beacon of democracy and multiculturalism.

The president Alexander Suroi has decided to exert the influence of Staratia , on the continent putting up a new policy to make the republican nations safe from foreign threats , this initiative would be known as the Tarind Pact , that would try to get all democracies to cooperate for the safety of their citizens and Staratia would show the rest of the republics that they would protect Kavonia from the threats they faced.

The president has also arranged discussions with the Blacovizs Republic , the Republic of Zellonia , Kavonia , Dongaria and Xian , but he also knew that the persecussion of many of the radicals within the nation would make their diplomatic moves weaker than otherwise they would be but it was for something worth it.

The Saurilian Empire

The Better Learning Legislation

The majority of the population within Saurilia are simple farmers who do not strive to adapt to the factory life even if more money would be earned within the factory as laborers. A legislator, Alexander Drosen, proposed that a new legislation be passed to help encourage people to get a job working at their local factory or move to find a job at a factory. Young men and women would receive education regarding the average salary while working at a factory and the other benefits of working at a factory. This would boost the Saurilian economy and allow the nation to better get out of the small amount of debt that it has.

The Sultanate of the Seljuk (November 1st, 1910)

The paper clutched in the foreign ambassadors hand was crumpled, the byproduct of fear and rage now three hours past. The Divine Guards allowed him past into the Great Hall to see the Sultan at three minutes past nine o'clock. It was rousing the Sultan himself that stole the color from the man's face as much as the news that he bore. The Sultan was seated atop the throne--a majestic manifestation of Continental gold and Western tapestries--eating breakfast. A dozen Divine Guards lined either side of the hall, M1902 Schutzë rifles shouldered, their postures as if frozen in time.

The ambassador's shoes pinged against the granite floors all the way to the base of the throne. He bowed low, and held it until the Sultan spoke.

"You come at the earliest hour Ambassador Akkaya Sevgi," the Sultan boomed, picking through a piece of sliced Meung mandarin. "I pray that Staratia has not fallen to the Khanate so soon."

Akkaya Sevgi--the Foreign Ambassador to the Staratian Empire and it's second reincarnation the Republic of Staratia--did everything he could not to shake. At seventy-one years old, the culled eyes of the Sultan was the only thing that stole his courage. "Staratia has now sated itself in Continental affairs, my liege." Sevgi held out the paper, half crumpled, to a nearby guard. The soldier broke his posture, took the paper between thumb and forefinger and climbed the steps of the throne to deliver the paper to it to the Sultan.

Palace of the Seljuk Sultanate, circa 1895

The Sultan sat fixated for a short eternity, his eyes scrawling across the paper over and over? "And what do the Staratians have to gain from ensuring the independence of the Republic of Kavonia?" The Sultan asked. The Staratians had been predictably boring. They did not defend their borders, they did not engage in Continental politics. The Staratians were morbidly verbose compared to the neighboring Tyro-Antarians and preferred solipsism to extravagance. These were only a percentage of a myriad of reasons most Seljukii despised them.

The Non-Aggression Pact signed in earlier in the year had effectively closed off the Seljukii northern front, consolidating a nation racked by rebellion and discontent. "The Staratians supported the Kavonians during the Denouncement Crisis. Perhaps they wish to add the Kavonians as an extension of their non-existent political arm on the Continent."

"It is possible. If nothing else, the Staratians are often a thoughtless people. They embody a corrupted democracy." In the land of Staratia, Sevgi had once said, two wolves and a sheep got together to vote on who they ate for dinner. "The Staratians have offered no explanation to us on their decision. Considering their silence, my lord, it is possible they believe themselves doing a service against Saurilian aggression."

"Sevgi, depart with me to my chambers. There may be matters to discuss over the Staratian dog unwelcoming to any ears but your own." The Sultan rose from his throne and descended the stairs. Sevgi moved to his side and followed him out of a side door. The Divine Guards did not budge, for it was their eternal duty to protect the throne of the Sultan at all times, hours and days.

Deck of the Mecidiye, Flagship of the Faresian Fleet (November 5th, 1910)

Enfedi (Seljukii for Captain) Aydogmus Inonu did not necessarily agree with the Sultan's plan. Brooding to himself however, was the only option. To disagree with the Sultan was to welcome death upon your family for a thousand generations. Still, this plan was absolute insanity. The dispersal of an already beleaguered Seljuk Navy against the vast might of a superior force went against the Traditions of the Tash'as. Inonu unfolded his orders--signed by the Sultan himself--and read them for the fourth time.

"Enfedi, we are ready to depart," his second-in-command, Kemal Gokce shouted from the deck. Enfedi Inonu waved him off and turned back to the West, to Seljuk. To home.

SELJUK ORDER OF BATTLE (November 5th, 1910)
  • Seljuk Faresian Fleet -- Captain Aydogmus Inonu
    • 1st Cruiser Squadron
      • Mecidiye [Suhmat-class Armored Cruiser (1905)] (Flagship)
    • 4th Destroyer Squadron
      • Samsuye [Samsuye-class Destroyer (1905)]
      • Sdilli [Samsuye-class Destroyer (1905)]
      • Cumhur [Samsuye-class Destroyer (1905)]
      • Peyk-i Şevket [Samsuye-class Destroyer (1905)]
    • 2nd Merchant Division
      • Kunir-i-yat [Kunir-class Merchant (1903)] [TROOP TRANSPORT]
      • Niyazi Ozbilgin [Kunir-class Merchant (1903)] [COLLIER]

Six ships, destined for something great. The Mediciye dwarfed the four destroyers as they left Nusret Bay along the Seljukii coast. Captain Inonu watched for hours as the coast dissipated. They passed the island of Dillsen, the newest addition to the Sultan's Empire--swindled right from the Blutlander's without a shot fired. The fleet turned south, maneuvering through the Switch, the partially held canal that Blutland allowed trade to freely flow.

The Seljuk Armored Cruiser Mecidiye, circa 1909

The six ship strong fleet would turn southwest and make for the Faresian Ocean, though they maintained an auxiliary speed of only eleven knots to ensure their ships weren't fouled when they reached their destination. Similarly, the auxiliary Kunir-i-yat a converted minelayer could only make thirteen knots with both boilers burning hot. The necessity here was precaution, not speed. They would reach their destination in less than two weeks, but the great Sea of Faresia was a daunting foe. Unlike the Inner Ocean, help would not come so easily if the ocean swallowed your ship. The islands were unfriendly, the seas even less so.

A day following their evacuation from the Switch, Kemal Gokce approached Enfedi Inonu again. "We're nine days away, Enfedi. We have fallen behind schedule, but we anticipate no further delays. We estimate the Zellonians saw our fleet dispatch from the Switch, but they will not know our course or heading since then."

"The Sultan smiles upon us, Kemal."

SALUTE TO THE FALLEN

Early November

November 1st
The vote of Tsunngmao concludes. It represents 4.3% of the population at large, those who can read, are educated and actively interested in politics. The vote is "Stay" for 96.74% and "Leave" for 3.26%. Wholly unrepresentative of the population, the records are sent off to the Empire of Saurilia's foreign department immediately.

City of Tsungmao, 1910

November 2nd-5th
The Karalian Uprising continues, with the Karalians evidently coming to the realization that the Seljuk would not treat them kindly. A breakout attempt begins on November 2nd, with 1,100 Karalians using recovered Saurilian rifles and Blutlander Otto Mark II's moving out of the city to the Northeast. The line there was lightly defended, held only by the 24th Observation Regiment, lightly armed with a single Havka machine gun and M1902 rifles.

2nd Squad of the 24th Observation Regiment, circa 1910

The attack began at dusk, with a fierce firefight. The 24th Regiment, commanded by Okur Acar dug in--an emphasis on the Havka emplacement settled between two dunes. The breakout threatened to succeed when the Havka gun jammed and the only return fire from the Seljuk positions was intermittent rifle and pistol fire. The Seljuk General Mahmed Hassan refused to reinforce the position fearful that another breakout might occur. It held, but only just. The Karalians gave up the fight mostly due to low ammunition. On the morning of the 7th, several Karalians exited the city to begin discussing a surrender.

November 6th
A design test for the KR-30 Mk II Bolt Action Rifle finishes, and prototype testing begins. The KR-30 was a five round, bolt action rifle that used a jacketed 6.5x80mm smokeless round. On November 6th, a field test was given comparing the KR-30, the Blutlander Otto Mark II, the Tyro-Antarian M1902 Schutze and the Saurilian Type-07. The Staratian rifle was present, but not allowed to shoot for comparison.

During the testing the following was recorded:

20 meter accuracy (20 shots)
-- Jouran KR-30 (Prototype): 84%
-- Blutlander Otto Mark II: 79%
-- Tyro-Antarian M1902 Schutze: 86%
-- Saurilian Type-07: 59%

50 meter accuracy (20 shots)
-- Jouran KR-30 (Prototype): 83%
-- Blutlander Otto Mark II: 61%
-- Tyro-Antarian M1902 Schutze: 84%
-- Saurilian Type-07: 56%

75 meter accuracy (20 shots)
-- Jouran KR-30 (Prototype): 67%
-- Blutlander Otto Mark II: 59%
-- Tyro-Antarian M1902 Schutze: 61%
-- Saurilian Type-07: 55%

100 meter accuracy (20 shots)
-- Jouran KR-30 (Prototype): 49%
-- Blutlander Otto Mark II: 31%
-- Tyro-Antarian M1902 Schutze: 27%
-- Saurilian Type-07: 26%

Jouran shooters at the November 6th testing, 1910

Jouran Department of Design and Research (DDR) had the opportunity to begin production or continue funding for the second round of testing. While the design seemed sturdy and many praised it's success during the November 6th shooting test, others pleaded caution. The average rifleman of the Doucal Army reported back after a day of shooting that it was a simple operation, easy to clean and lighter than their current standard rifle.

[Jouran KR-30 Bolt Action Rifle revealed to be [Quality 1 Rifle].]

November 7th
The 4th Staratian Army (30,000 men) under General Johanes Barian reaches the Staro-Khanate border. General Barian is a recent graduate of the Tarind Military Academy, and was given command of the 4th Army due to it's isolated location in the Far West. Unfortunately for Barian, the neighboring Khanate had ventured into Staratia, and upon reaching the border they find an additional raid had been carried out in the first week of November--just as the snows began to fall.

Khanate raiders in 1910 wearing Staratian hats--presumably stolen

The village of Mendel was attacked, it's entire population of 12,000 was brutally attacked and there are less than 3,000 survivors. Word travels East soon enough and the national papers decry the Republic for moving so slowly. The village of Mendel was similarly a minor rail station between Meung and the Staratian city of Krimm, it's railroad attachment there was utterly destroyed.

- Republic of Staratia loses 1 Prestige.
- Staro-Meung Rail is destroyed. -1% Rail.
