The Usurpers (, brutal, fantasy)

The War is finally over. Silence hangs over the country of Silith, as the commoners cower in their fragile dirt huts praying to the gods. "Is it over?" They whisper to each other. "Has King Aragoth finally beaten the council?" The mutterings cease as the marches begin. Precise, well timed footsteps are heard all over the country. The citizens pray harder, hoping, pleading that their door will be opened by the gold plated Templars, with food and drink to celebrate the final victory.
In one house, a mother hugs her child to her chest, tears brimming in both their eyes. The door creaks open and she stares at what the door has revealed, covering the child's eyes. The mother watches in horror as 2 leather boots step into her home, blood spattered and dyed black. The chain mail leggings swish lightly, and above that a chest plate of pure obsidian. Finally, a steel helmet obscures the face, but the eyes are visible. Dark, smoldering eyes with the sort of red tint that only a madman could contain. "A knight of the Council" she whispers in disbelief "but that can only mean one thing". At last, she hears the words she prayed she'd never hear, but it is impossible to shut out the deep gravelly voice that says, "the War is over. The Council rules this land."

OOC

The usurpers is about a group of Rebels, 40 years after the Great War trying to take back control of Silith which is ruled by the mysterious and evil Council. Because the council rules and prohibits commoners from learning any type of combat, you will have little formal training with melee or magic based fighting. There are 2 main ways to play, one of which is the group gathering resources and learning, before attacking and claiming individual villages and eventually taking back the country. The other way is to be constantly traveling between towns, fighting and gaining allies but never focusing your efforts on a specific place for long. The closer you get to the capital, the better defended a town is. You start in Vilnick, a small village at the very edge of Silith. As the RP continues you will become much stronger and eventually be strong enough to take on the Council themselves. The Council is made up of 4 individuals which each control a piece of Silith. They are headed by Lord Regent Crow, who controls the center piece of Silith including the capital itself. For the classes and magic, don't be afraid to make something up as long as it's not OP. The examples I put are just stuff off the top of my head! If I get some interest I'll expand the OOC allot more. If you have any questions please ask!

This seems pretty interesting, i have a few unfinished characters that i may be able to finish up quickly using information from this rp.

1
Name:Cain
Appearance: 5ft4/ pale / slim / short blonde hair / childlike appearance.
Age:18
Personality: Quiet, stereotypical bookworm.
Class: Parasitic mage ( of my own creation i guess ) Cain is a quick learner when it comes to magic, the problem is that he cannot use magic without the aid of an outside source, preferably from a living and organic target. This is mostly confused with blood magic due to the fact that most of the time blood is the only thing he can get his hands on, not many people will stand still so he can use them as a battery. Other than blood an unharmed living target can be used but he needs to be in contact with them the entire time he is casting the spell and however long he needs to maintain the spell. Whoever is his current host tires faster than normal but is never permanently injured.
Magical affinity: Cain is particularly skilled at constructing wards around his batteries ( the host who he draws energy from ) Once the ward is constructed Cain no longer needs to stay in contact with them, as the ward only draws energy from the host and only when it is currently being used. Other than that Cain uses magic in combat that is a sort of mix between healing magic and necromancy, whenever a target is defeated Cain begins drawing energy from them as long as he can stay concentrated, renewing his Host's energy and letting them continue to fight.
Equipment:basic medical items. Books and writing utensils for recording new spells or simply new information. The normal things, food, water,a dagger.
Backstory: I will need to work on this, i would imagine he would be an oddity among mages, the ability to draw energy to power his spells from his surroundings, while not using dark magic to do so, would be a powerful tool for any mage who uses it. I would guess he would be on the run from a group of mages who want to study him and try to replicate his power.

Name:Alec
Appearance: Male / 6ft7 / Gently tanned / Shows his age / short cut grey hair / Well maintained body dispite his age.
Age:46
Personality:Protective / Distrustful / Strong sense of right and wrong.
Class:Former Templar? ( depends on how you describe the abilities of a templar in this, for me i go with a mix of the Templar and Champion abilities from Dragon Age: Inquisition / The ability to buff and protect allies, purge simple spells from an area or detect magic where others would not, ect ect )
Magical affinity: Light / Holy
Equipment: Simple chainmail armor / Old Templar's blade / normal things such as food and water
Backstory: Once again, this can be changed, most likely he would have been kicked out of the Templar order for refusing to follow corrupt orders and was forced to run, now protects the innocent wherever he can but stays wary for betrayal.

( I'm new to this site but not rping. would you mind pming me with more details if you have them? )

@Eneui

In reference to some of your questions: the Templars were the grand knights of Silith before the Council took over. They wore enchanted golden armor and used light magic, being able to cast light healing spells and also blasting enemies with holy fire from a distance (think paladin esq.). You mentioned "the other mages," but because your characters are commoners use of magic for any sort of fighting is grounds for execution. Usually the only people that know if you have affinity or not is your closest friends and family. Making a retired paladin would be interesting, as he would have all sorts of lore (I can make up some stuff, or you can build the world as you see fit) from before the council. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Overlord Thraka That Which is Hateful

Name: Birthname: Thalia Coldstone, Name now used: Mergoux

Appearance: Mergoux is a tall woman, almost 6 feet and muscular, though not bulky. She's got long black hair with several braids woven though it. She's got a thin scar tracing down the left side of her face, which is pretty but not overly beautiful. Her body is covered in intricate tattoos though the only ones normally on display are the ones on her arms and chin which she typically keeps bare. On both her wrists are tattooed manacles with chains wrapping up her forearms to her elbow where they break and turn into vines. The vines wrap around a symbol on either shoulder, on the left 8 coins, on the right, a flower with 8 petals. The tattoo on her chin is a thin strip of nordic runes

Personality: Cruel, Violent, Sadistic, Stern, Stoic, Private, Brave.
Mergoux is a violent sociopath bent on murder and destruction. She kills all in the path of her mission, or those who oppose her goals and enjoys torturing them to death to 'punish' them. She'd be one of the most Evil persons in the land were it not for the fact that her goal in life is to protect the innocent and those who cannot protect themselves. She'll butcher raiders, torture cruel officials to death and fight any monster that threatens even the tiniest farm. Her methodology is that of a Evil person despite her good intentions.

Class: Warrior

Magical affinity: None

Equipment: Greatsword, Helmet and some metal armor mixed with leather and chainmail. A few coins and a badge or two from military service

Backstory: (how did your character end up in Vilnick, were they born there? Why do they want to rebel?)
Mergoux was born as Thalia Coldstone in the mountains of a far Northern place. Never properly accepted by the other children she and her family finally decided to move away. As they traveled they were beset upon by bandits who killed her father and mother infront of her then took her captive and enslaved her at their base hidden in the mountains. She spent 12 years a slave (heh) to them before finally managing to escape at age 20. She then joined a local military force and with their help eventually came back and razed the bandit camp to the ground. She personally killed over 20 men over the course of a week of vengeance and torture. Upon this being reported she was instantly discharged and spent the next decade wandering the world, killing those she saw as evil and helping those she saw as good or innocent.
She hates abuse of power and those who would oppress their people, that is why she fights, that is why she rebels

First a few questions

The usurpers is about a group of Rebels, 40 years after the Great War trying to take back control of Silith which is ruled by the mysterious and evil Council.

Is there something that makes them "evil"? I just tend to find most people have reasons for their actions and, right or not, don't consider themselves evil.

Because the council rules and prohibits commoners from learning any type of combat, you will have little formal training with melee or magic based fighting.

So being on the side of the council is off limits? (Not a problem, just checking).

Character sheet

Name: Alissa

Appearance: Tall, thirty five year old woman, remarkably plain, short dark hair (just above her ears) and often wears worn a hooded cape.

Personality: Curious but cautious. She cares, above all else, about her family.

Class: Flower seller (and good listener)

Magical affinity: None that she knows of (not allowed to practice, right?)

Equipment: She carries a flower basket, sometimes also selling bread when her neighbour is too ill to sell his own wares.

Backstory: Her family have always lived in Vilnick but were a family of blacksmiths. When the council first took over her grandfather was killed for having forged weapons for the Templars. Her father was left with strict instruction to only forge horse shoes, a waste of his talent, and then ten years ago a noble approached her father enquiring about a set of ornate metal pokers. After thirty years of horse shoes her father decided it was punishment enough and it would do no harm.

The noble man boasted of his new fireside tools to a visiting member of the council and, meaning only to increase publicity for the talented man, he told the council who had designed and crafted the set of pokers. Her father was banned from ever smithing again and, as an extra hit to his mascuility, the huge man was given only one profession his family could go into: Flower selling. (This includes anyone who marries into the family, leading Alissa to be further avoided by the men of Vilnick).

Now her father spends most of his days sitting, dejected, in the town square with his spread of flowers before him. Alissa walks the town, selling where and when she can and adding fresh loaves to her wares when the baker next door can't get out to sell them himself. In her years of selling Alissa has found herself being overlooked, almost as if she were a part of the scenery. Perhaps it is her plain face or the fact a quiet street seller truly does blend into the street itself ... but whatever the reason she over hears conversations, whispers and gossip ... and the talk of the knights on patrol.
