@Yuuta, but it will affect how player characters interact, and that's what I'm looking for. Thanks.

@Yuuta: So here is my idea for a character, after seeing some of the other entries. So, basically, people are picking noncombatants, but the type of noncombatants that are not inherently super frail or vulnerable... just that don't have experience with combat specifically.

My character is a bodyguard with a lot of experience in hand-to-hand combat and one psychic ability: he can take over people's bodies. Some pointers to further explain the ability:

- The first time he takes over a body, he has to be in contact with the person. Afterwards, he can do it from up to five miles.
- The way the ability works mechanically is that the person feels a distinct pressure in the back of their skull (nothing debilitating or damaging, but clearly noticeable) and can then consent to my character taking over. Only explicit, deliberate consent allows him to take over bodies, he can't use this ability against opponents as is. The host will have his eye color changed to purple.
- While in another body, his original stays in a vegetative, sleep-hibernation type state.
- He does not have access to his host's memories and does not take on any of their personality traits.
- While he has to fight using his host's physical strength and shape, my character does retain his original muscle memory and reflexes.

Basically, the goal of his kit is to facilitate people sort of defending themselves in a way without physically being there.

@ThriceDefied, my character may have something to say about someone else being in his/her body. Something along the lines of, "all you need to do is ask".

Since the requirement for explicit permission is mechanically inherent, we good :D.

@ThriceDefied

My blacksmith is going to be a trained swordsman as well - though she'll be average at best and nowhere near an expert.

@Yuuta
I do have a question regarding weapons and such - what about sort of...'Enchantable' weapons and armor, if that makes sense? Would that be out of the realm of possibility?

@ThriceDefied Even with permission being required, I'm not sure I like the idea of taking over somebody else's body for a couple reasons. First, I feel like it would add more tension in a dangerous scenario if the non-combatant has to try to survive without using kung fu. Second, you'll be taking the player out of the scenario. Even with permission, I'm not sure it would be fun for people to watch their character do stuff rather than actually doing stuff. And lastly, given those two points, the ability is functionally no different than being a normal bodyguard. I think it would be better if characters could react to you trying to protect them and stuff. For those reasons, I'll say no to that ability.

@Rune_Alchemist The "able" part of "Enchantable" concerns me. One thing I don't want is the ability to constantly produce a wide array of new abilities. If you had something specific in mind, let me know.

Everyone: I'll try to have the OOC up today, and with that will come the character sheet.

@Yuuta

Mostly swords with the ability to burn or freeze, or armor that can resist certain elements or other effects when worn. Nothing too crazy, I promise. (The best example I could give is similar to how Skyrim or maybe Dark Souls handles giving weapons magic effects, but I don't think neither are exactly what I'd be going for.)

Such things would require specific set of items and materials to be able to use (such as specific ores, maybe even other items not typically used in forging) As well as a specific know how to use them in forging to be able to craft it with any sort of ability. It definitely wouldn't be something that can just be abused or spammed, since most weapons I imagine could only have on effect added to them, and then its on them for life or until they break or something.

The downsides would be that its not a quick process to be able to do something like that, as well as the maker would need specific items - might even make the sword more brittle as well or have limited uses before the weapon exhausts itself. Additionally, if a person uses a weapon that has some sort of fire ability - good luck trying to use that on a fire spitting dragon. It could give people certain edges in some situations, or turn a trivial task into a somewhat more difficult one if their weapon isn't suited to something.

Just thought I might throw the idea out there. If its not possible to start with it - I could completely understand perhaps them learning it later. If its not doable at all, then I can just scrap the idea and forget it. That's cool.

Yes please. a proper fantasy survival RP. No crazy magic or super powers, and focus on exploration and discovery! I am curious about the potential to play a being already in this new dimension, what races are available to adventurers, how crazy weapons can get, the level of science in the old/new world, the level of magic in the old/new world, and if you're looking for people to help formulate or brainstorm answers for these?

@Rune_Alchemist I would say he could start with some very basic enchantments. A blade that doesn't dull. Waterproof armor. Simple stuff. If you want crazier stuff, I think this is a good way to encourage exploration. I'd let your character have the ability to use items with magical properties to forge new items with similar properties. So, you want magic weapons? Go find magic stuff.

@Esailia I want you to start with an adventurer going through the portal. If you have ideas for the New World, I'd be happy to hear them. PM me and we can talk. I'm not providing an exhaustive list of races. I just want them to be human-ish. I've already approved a changeling, which is a being that can alter its appearance, so there's that. Magic in the old world... this portal is their crowing achievement, and they can barely power it. Magic in the new world, you'll find out. Weapons and science should be something that medieval technology could produce. No guns. I don't like them in fantasy. I don't want to stifle your creativity on weapons, though, so I'll have to treat it as a case by case basis.

That's exactly what I was sort of hoping to go for there, so that's fine with me. I'll wait for the OOC, then!

Oh, and I was planning on her being an elf, by the way if that influences anything.

I'm interested in joining.

I was thinking I could play the role of a dwarf character, if that is allowed. Someone whose less attuned to magic and has more mechanical talents.

Things like repeater crossbows, compasses, black powder, and engineering would be his forte.
