@Tsar Gatto, thank you. I'm going for a vibe sort of like Cowboy Bebop in the sense of the characters being average or above average and just making their way in the universe on a mix of their skills and dumbluck. I figure our crew will travel all over really. Of course, traveling into the warzones will be dangeorus, so sticking to the outskirts of the universe will definitely have it benefits, but there also may not be much work to be had or money earned way out there. I am working on a few races right now, one of which is a reptillian race, so you can wait and see if you'd like to use it or feel free to make your own of course.

Name:
Grimuri Degalos (Grim-oo-ree Dee-gah-os (“L” is silent.) That is his real name, but he personally adopts a name that pays tribute to his Human ancestors: “Jimmy Ray.” He has also been called “Yuri.” If a character ever hears the name Jimmy Ray, the misnomer of Grimuri, then they may believe they have found the wrong guy. Several police types from various solar systems have tried to catch him for his illegal fishing. His fishing isn’t always illegal, but it is in those galaxies where the cosmic beasts are considered sacred. It is often Grimuri’s misnomer that protects him by leading police astray.

Race: Half-Pisces/Half-Human - The only hybrid of his kind so far. Many races wonder what he actually is, and Jim just refers to himself as a mutant. It would just be too unbelievable for one to believe he was actually an accident between a female Pisces and a human male.

Age: Appears to be in the Human thirties.

Gender: Male

Appearance:
6’3” | 230 lbs | Ash-white | Amethyst

Jim; Jimmy; Jimmy Ray; or Yuri would look like the average Human male if it wasn't for his evident alien features. His eyes are amethyst, hair a greyish-white, and his skin is a lilac complexion. The shell of his ears resemble a conch shell and are often adorned with jewel-studded earrings. His hair is kept short and stands on his head like grass. At times, it can be seen moving on its own like cilia, but it is Jim checking his surroundings. Down the spine of his back in a V-shape are glossy scales but brittle compared to the armor-dense scales of his kin. Around his ribs, but not visible to the eye are three vents on each side. These vents will open into the form of gills when he is submerged in water or in an atmosphere with limited or absolutely no oxygen.

Jim’s skeletal structure is stronger than a Human’s and extremely flexible, which allows him to survive the pressures of the deepest trenches on his planet and even the vacuum of space. Jim has several unique organs that aid him in aerobic and anaerobic respiration but that is explained in more depth in the skills section.

Each of Jim’s teeth are pointed and designed for tearing and crushing through even the hardest of shells. His bite force isn’t something a person wants to experience. If he can eat cosmic clams without prying the meat from the shell, then you can only imagine bones and even certain steels getting crushed. He’s a biter!

Homeworld: Merine and The Red Guardian Moon.

Personality:
Jimmy Ray is probably one of the coolest and most laid-back fisherman one would ever meet. Fishing is his life and obsession. If it is big, rare, extremely dangerous, and worth a fortune, then he will catch it. He has more fishing stories than an old sailor. He even has creatures that he always swears he’ll catch one day. Jim sells his catch to the highest bidder and the buyer isn’t always honest like that one time he sold a Megaloid to an emperor who unleashed it like a dragon on rival colonies. Who knew the guy was going to use it to do that? The galactic police spent years trying to find the guy who had sold it to him, and during those years, Jim was living pretty.

Jim likes fortune and he knows a catch means money, so if ever he is on a mission doing A, and a golden opportunity to catch a rare and exotic money-showering species pops up, he’ll do B - catch it. Jim knows a few human languages as well as alien languages. When he is speaking Human (for there are many dialects created by various aliens) English, he tends to use a lot of fishing jargon. Example: “Ha! She baited you into that one.” “Ooh thatsa’ big catch.” “Snapped my line (Lost him or I don’t know where he/she is).”

Jim is used to being a loner and so he can function 100% independently in areas of space where there is literally no one around. His patience is legendary. The Pisces is quite formidable. He has managed to shake the galactic police for years and he’s wanted for his illegal catching, selling, and eating of sacred beasts in various solar systems. The negative attention has made him an outstanding fighter and survivalist; and with the most unexpected weapon too: a lure.

There are tales that speak of a legendary Fisherman who traverses the stars catching cosmic entities/gods. Yeah; the stories are highly embellished, but you’re hearing about them from several different races, beliefs, and cultures. They are bound to sound amazing. Many bounty hunters and cops imagine some all-powerful being with some sort of sci-fi fantasy powers or technology. Nope. Just Jimmy Ray and his lure.

Skills:
  • Swimmer - Merine is a planet made entirely out of water. Instead of an atmosphere, voyagers to Merine will dive straight into an ocean. Jim, being from Merine, is capable of surviving underwater. Many sea creatures will breach the planet’s surface and leap into space after ships that the beasts confuse to be their prey. The Pisces are capable of similar feats and are, in fact, the very predators that are responsible for the destruction of several ships. A ring surrounds the water planet and unlike the rings of Saturn, it is a ship graveyard.

Jim swims in space just as well as he swims in water. While his gills give him the ability to filter oxygen from the water, they also suit another purpose when he is in space. Jim’s blood is highly concentrated with the oxygen he regularly takes in. Similar to the Crucian carp, when in space or areas with little oxygen, his body begins creating alcohol. The alcohol warms his body from the chill of space, and the excess concentrations are released. Jim’s gills restructure and act as vents for the expulsion of the alcohol in a brief fiery burst. The burst propels him through space and with the aid of his limbs for guided direction, Jim appears to literally swim through space.

Because his blood becomes concentrated in alcohol, alcohol’s tranquilizing and inebriating effects affect him but not at an excessive level. And people wonder why he’s so laid-back…
  • Legendary Fisherman - Jim’s patience is legendary, and so far he’s caught everything he said he was going to catch. It might have taken a few years at times, but he always catches his fish. His reputation as “The Fisherman” makes him out to be more than he really is, but he doesn’t mind it because it makes him feel special. He also can use it as a good front.
  • Guile - Jim is good with money. He also is good at haggling. He tries to get the bang for his buck on any fish he catches. He will make whatever fish he has seem like the greatest fish in the world to sell it at his price goal. In the same way he has good business sense, he’s pretty clever at swindling people. He is that guy who is just good at getting out of trouble. It may just be his laid-back personality and seemingly honest mannerisms. Whatever he’s doing, it works. You need to persuade somebody, Jim is your man.
  • Lure Martial Arts - Because Jimmy Ray comes off as being just some guy; some fisherman (if they don’t know he’s THE Fisherman); people often underestimate him. He may be pretty average, but his fishing skills aren’t, and he turned what he did best into a deadly martial art. Using his lure, line, and hook as a weapon, Jim can attack targets from long and close range. He uses his lure like a sword and when the line is loosed, the line becomes like a razor blade that can slice up multiple enemies. The hook allows Jim to snag an enemy, or someone who thought it was safe to hide, and fling them about. Jim can use the hook to reach high places and pull friendlies out of harm’s way.
  • Space Survival - Like a fish in water, Jim’s hair allows him to sense shifts in his surroundings. His hair is extra sensitive to touch, which is why he tells people not to touch his hair (unless you’re hot). When he isn’t sensing his surroundings, he’ll wear a hat or some form of headgear because he wouldn’t be able to stop sensing otherwise. This sense has allowed him to sense predators before they can attack him. Like a sixth sense, once he senses danger, he will tactfully make a casual escape to not alert his pursuers that he knows they’re there. His hair is a survival mechanism, and has contributed to his survival in space. When he’s out hunting for fish, he will use his senses to find “the one.”

Jim has spent majority of his life alone and venturing throughout space looking for the cash cow. He is quite knowledgeable about space creatures, black holes, certain planets and parasitic asteroids, what to eat…he would make a good navigator.
  • Decent Shot - So Jim is actually crap with a gun, but this skill made the list because he actually knows how to load one and shoot one. Sometimes, he even hits the target. He's a Fisherman remember? He took what he did best and made that into a deadly art! He continues to use a blaster because he wants to get better at it.
  • Multilingual - Jim is only fluent in Human English and Russian. The other alien languages he knows, he isn't fluent in. He just knows enough to sell something to the sucker.

Motivation: If it wasn't made obvious already, Jim's main motivation is always catching "the big one," which doesn't always literally refer to the fish's size. Whatever makes him filthy rich. He loves money because he can spend it on a plethora of nice things. His life's mission is to earn so much dough that he can just stop fishing and never have to work again. Honestly though, even if his dream came true, he'd never stop fishing. He just loves it too much.

Gear: "The Allure" is Jim's exotic fishing rod. It's a rod without a physical line. The line is made completely out of plasma and glows a bright, neon-blue when it is active. The line can cut through nearly anything when it is loosed, and strangely at the end of the line is a hook with some electromagnetic properties. The line is connected to the black hook, and it is that hook in which Jim uses to wrangle the colossi of the sea. The lure is extremely strong and is designed to draw in big fish. The rod itself acts more like a bokken for breaking bones rather than cutting people. Its flexibility makes it feel like a whip, and it can deflect other non-energy-based swords and pole-arms. When the rod and line are active, then Jim can use his rod more like an actual sword, using the line as the edge. The sword, however, is not double-edged.

@Holy Soldier What's the point of having gills when there isn't any oxygen to be filtered?

I'm loving all of the planets in here so far ^_^). One question for you, @Holy Soldier: Given that the entire planet is liquid, are there different layers of pressure that define what type (and size) of creatures can survive within each?

Only to suggest that you could add in an extra flavor to the already interesting world of Merine.

@deegee I've got to wonder: If the Malatrin males, the Warrior-Caste, were so power-hungry...how is it that they didn't conquer the females previously? What drove them to so drastically upturn their society, and how powerful were their invaders --compared to the their females-- that they would so easily be swayed into betraying the entirety of their race? If anything, it sounds more like *a few* power-hungry individuals made deals for themselves, which could possibly explain why only a few were left to procreate with the females, perhaps even being used as Governors of the newly enslaved species.

My grasp of xeno sociobiology is minimal, but the Malatrin castes lived apart, coming together for mating and the early stages of child-rearing. Little else. As for the level of power displayed by the invaders / enslavers, the species the Malatrin refer to as the Gor'shun (a pretty terrible word in their language, the equivalent of which does not exist in English, or any other human language) I would describe that species, too, except they have not been seen in millennia, and the Malatrin are notoriously close-lipped about it.

@Holy Soldier, looks good. Just fill out a race application for the Pisces, and then you can move Jimmy over to the character tab.
EDIT: Pleas eprovide more information for his homeworld.

@deegee, the Melatrin look good. I will agree with virgil on the edits, so once that's done I will add them to the UE.

Edits to Malatrin made. Shall I do up an entry for Malatrin-Alpha as a planet? I'll also have a draft of my character up in an hour or so. :)

@Holy Soldier Merine looks good. I will add it when I finish with the formatting edits to the OP. I'd also be interested in a race entry for the Guardians, but you don't have to obviously.
