I was recently thinking about wanting to really do a roleplay during the golden age of piracy, and we roleplay as a crew who sales around doing pirate stuff.

I'm not sure if it would have an overarching plot or goal, or just lots of small, situational goals, or how supernatural it would be, but I'm very open to ideas! Looking forward to seeing interest!

Are you looking for supernatural ideas?

Historically the golden age of piracy occurs in the late 1600's at this point Spanish settlement has been going on for well over a hundred years. This means there are already crumbling Spanish encomienda, abandoned missions, you name it. The crew could find the diary of a Spanish Priest who looked into all sorts of early supernatural mysteries. Hints of riches, ancient terrors, lost treasures ect.

I think some supernatural would be a good addition for sure. I'm at work as I type this on my phone. This looked like something different for sure. I'll have some time for brainstorming later today.

I also listen to a lot of Jimmy Buffett so yeah :-)

It's probably going to have a mix of both kinds of pirates, the tone of the rp's going to be right in the middle (Have you ever read a David Eddings fantasy novel?). I have a rough idea in mind for the Cap. He's going to be charismatic and dangerous.

no i havent read anything of his, but I'll add it to my list.

i have a map im working on for a world I'm creating, which we can use, if you guys want. it'll give up a starting point and bases of lore and such and we can change any of the details as needed.

some people dont like to use premade words and thats cool, but there's plenty of room for this one to grow.

I like it! Unsure whether to make it a fictionalised island in the Mediterranean or in another world, but both could be options. I'm still not sure how supernatural to make this rp if at all. I do know it's going to be romanticised at the very least and isn't going to be a rigid history documentary, but barring that, it could be anything from Treasure Island to Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 supernatural-wise

Just some questions. Is there going to be any:
-Rape
-Plunder
-Murder
-Torture
-Gore
-Mutiny
-Hanging
-Treachery

And this is more of a suggestion than a question but we should DEFINITELY focus more on exploring than sea fighting and ship raiding. I mean, after the first 3 ships raided it kinda gets repetitive. We could use sheep plundering as a boost to the main story line. Like for example we fight a treasure map that has an unmarked island that isn't on any other map so we travel to that island.

Everything there except rape. Think David Eddings books rather than George RR Martin. And yeah, we won't do that much ship raiding. It does get samey. Naval combat might be more common, though.

I should point out that pirates rarely went after other ships. Ships that were plunder worthy were often well protected. More often then not pirates went ashore​, traveling two or three days by foot and attacked towns and villages "on the way back". The key thing there was "on the way back" because the local militia would be called in and the pirates would run back to their ship and sail away while the militia was stuck on the shore shaking their fists with anger and unable to follow.

I like this idea, and could definitely use large parts of it, but this rp is going to start with the forming of a crew under a captain with his own ship, not a mutiny.
