My friend directed me to this RP and it looks spectacular. I don't suppose there are two more spots left?

Sure thing, plenty of room left.

@Oddsbod

Are we going to wait on the new applicants before starting the RP or are you still working on the IC post?

I'm still working on the IC, I'll try and get it up as soon as I can.

I wouldn't have the GM wait on me or my friend at all. If the IC's ready, post it; we'll catch up and find a way to join in.

There's gonna be a weekish-long grace period in the starting town before the plot properly kicks in, even after the IC goes up, and characters don't actually need to be present for that initial bit of interaction, so you've got plenty of time to throw around character ideas and get sheets done before things really get started, and you won't be holding anything up or anything, for sure.

I'm going to ask a few questions about magic.

First off, what is the threshold before mage-eyes occur? For reference, my character sometimes casts simple-level spells whilst tailoring to create enchanted garments. She doesn't do this with everything she makes and I assume the enchantments won't be too potent but hopefully long-lasting - things like tent canvases which don't leak, silk that keeps it's sheen for longer. Given the simplicity of the spells, their low energy level and the infrequency of her casting them, I put her down as no mage-eyes for the time being. After all, she only has to cast the spell once on the needle or the thread she'll use for the cloth, and most handmade clothing can take months to complete.

But what triggers it? A certain number of spells that have to be cast in order to produce the warping? Could someone go for years only casting a handful of spells then one day go 'over the limit' and get mage-eyes? Or does it work as a sign of overuse, meaning people who only cast spells once every few months can go their entire lives without a hint of mage-eye on them? I'm taking it as a given that casting advanced/mighty spells, even on the rare occasion, puts you at high risk for eye warping.

EDIT: Decided to put the CS on this post too in order to avoid double posting. Enjoy!

The post on magic states that characters with tangential magic abilities- no mage eyes- have 4 'points' for which to assign spells, in which simple and advanced spells cost 1 and 2 points respectively. There I imagine, is your threshold. As far as what triggers it, ionno.

It basically comes down to how far you steep yourself in magic, how many spells your body becomes used too, etc. You could go for years casting the same spells and you'd be fine, but if you start immersing yourself in more powerful spells, or more spells than a small handful, it starts to actively affect you. I set it as three points worth of spells can let you avoid mage-eyes, while more than that pushes you over, but suddenly for the first time I'm realizing this isn't actually a problem for carnelians since you can't actually see their eyes anyways and suddenly I'm wondering why I never actually thought of this before, huh.

I really like this character concept, btw, and her personality and backstory are nicely fleshed out. I'll be shooting you more in-depth thoughts in half a second over PM.

@Stitches@Life in Stasis

So, I was playing around with quick carnelian sketches, and then had an idea for reworking the carnelians to lose the chitin armor. I've got the two versions here, is there one you think works a bit better? Is the new one more interesting, or would you prefer to stick with the original version?

Very cool sketches, but I prefer the original (the first design you did is awesome, love how willowy they are). I really don't want to alter my character again. This is another really significant change.

That's fair, just thought I'd toss it out as a possibility.

In other news, heyo, IC is up! Got there.

They have this gloriously unearthly look about them. I'm hooked on the designs, both of them! However I thought the three-joint limbs would produce some digitigrade legs though. I'd love to take a stab at drawing Araigne now, one with how I thought she'd look and one with how she'd actually look using these sketches as reference, if that'd be okay?

Proper biology is for nerds. Also I had a C in high school biology.

But yeah sure, draw away! I know Stasis's interpretation had less streamlined chitin, which also works fine, so small variances are okay, and I'd love to see what you'd been picturing for your character.

In other news, I'm trying to set up a discord, but the bot I'm trying to put together is a bit complex so it could be another day or so, and I am not clear-thinking enough to just cut my losses and post a link without the bot.

Yeah my version's a bit chunkier. It was just a dumb sketch though, I wanted to be able to visualize my character.

Here's a more updated sketch than the version I showed Oddsbod, with less spikiness and more legs. The color is meant to be darker but I didn't want to drown out the detail of the lines. If I'd actually tried to color the thing I'd have made it clearer.

As I said to Oddsbod, looks like a hideous lovechild between Robocop and Giger's alien. But the idea I was getting at was a spidery look to the "helmet".

Rad, good to hear it. Looking forward to seeing what everyone's cooking up.

I'm nearly done setting up the discord too. The bot admin is gonna be named after a certain NPC you'll be meeting soon, and I'm trying to code it to insult you.
