My only objection is that Orchid is not proficient with Chainmail armor (It's classified as heavy). If they had a chain shirt (Medium Armor), that'd be much better. Aside from that I have no issues skipping ahead. Of course Orchid would accept Kyra's request.

Thing is, we are talking about city guard here. Ringmail is cheap and effective even on less trained folk, so that's what they use and have stocked. It is what is available. It just so happens that it does not match what Orchid is accustomed to wearing.

I have no issue with moving onward, @Hekazu. I was preparing to post a twilight sequence in between dream and thought, but not plot moving - if only so I could answer as to what Brannor has been up to, sleeping off his injuries after having shapechanged back and all that. Given that will not change or affect anything planned in the game, or what I was going to write, my vote is that you should feel free to set us on the trail of the cult.

It is a possibility, but it will take time. Same story with the Splint. Not to mention that it would cost a bit of money to boot, and would not be as good as chain shirt, probably something akin to hide armour. But it is doable.

Eeeeh, maybe I'll just keep going bare chested. Nothing there that Orchid really wants, though I suppose he'll just a shortsword just for the sake of having something a bit heavier than his dagger. That being said, @Hekazu depending on how much time we got could Orchid do something with that Drakehide he's been tanning? I originally intended to drape it over his shield and bolster it somehow. Perhaps giving it an extra layer of defense against a specific type of breath attack (I think the drake was a green one) or advantage on intimidating dragonkin when he has the shield out.

The hide of a simple Ambush Drake will not grant any obvious benefits I am afraid. Kobolds might consider it a threat as the scaredy cats they are, but anything more substantial than that will be likely to shrug it off. But hey, with the amounts of kobolds you are seeing that might yield some benefit!

Good enough for me! I'll have Orchid turn the drakehide into a badass covering on his shield to scare the wits out of any kobold who comes across him. Make them think twice about facing him; he's willing to skin their bigger kin and turn it into a fancy cover on his shield. There's no telling what he'd do if he got his hands on a couple of matching kobolds!

I'd be tempted to actually have orchid start skinning kobolds to make into clothing too, but that would require a lot more downtime than I think we have. Unless Orchid has enough time to make himself say, a hide shirt out of Kobold skin?

Pump your brakes, now we are going a bit far aren't we? At least Ambush Drakes are not intelligent lifeforms! Besides, you would be correct with the limited time thing. It'd take quite a bit of time to process enough workable hide from those little creatures to make a shirt for him.

Fair enough. Orchid would at least have enough time to drape that hide over his shield, and hopefully it could be useful later on. If nothing else, it's a badass looking drake-hide shield. Even if drake's aren't intelligent, they're still considerably tough and Orchid would totes use his shield as a conversational starter.

"This shield? Dragonhide. Yup. Killed dragon, cover shield. Orchid fight at Greenest, attacked by dragons. Killed many. Orchid strong, yeah?"

Totality of circumstances suggest these are far from your friendly kobolds. It would be a potentially mind-blowing experience if by some off chance they were and just so happened to be following such an army, or eve on the same path. Now in a normal game with a Dungeon Master who is fond of this sort of "trickery", to put it kindly, that I could potentially believe. But a module? Even if it were an older one, that is a trap they would consider too brutal.
