Hi everyone I'm new here I already intraduced myself so I guess I should start posting! I'm really new to roleplaying so sorry if I'm making some mistakes, but I was wondering if anyone would happen to be interested in a sci-fi/space adventure kind of thing, in which the players would have their own spaceships and travel to new worlds- I really like complex plots, but perhaps this could be something more casual and not dapressing or inappropriate. But it would be nice to have a saga that goes on for a long time with the same characters... I've never GM'd anything before so I don't know how feasible this is but I have a few character ideas and story ideas, I just don't know how to proceed with them. I'd appreciate any suggestions or interest! Thanks everyone!

Hey, I'm interested. I've been GMing for a while now and would like to help you out. I already have something of a character for this if you want.

This is going to sound elitist/veteran-ist, but I highly recommend that both of you first get a good deal of roleplaying experience first. It is a very common tale of new people coming on and deciding they want to do some epic, long RP only for their idea to die out quickly because of one reason or another. And than said persons tend to just leave the site feeling that there is something wrong with the people on it because no one posts or is interactive enough.

I'm not trying to be condescending, but its a cautionary tale that happens a lot.

@Drakey Just putting out a cautionary tale I've seen repeat on this site many times. I had no way of knowing anyone's past experience so I assume.

If you have the prior skill I think it could work out. I've been on this site for less than a year but I'm currently running a fairly active casual roleplay. Maybe it would be a good idea to try CO GMing a smaller roleplay before jumping straight to advanced.

Okay, thanks!
I don't think this necessarily has to be advanced- like I said, I do like complex plots but I'm fine with something casual. And it seems like there is enough interest for me! It's true that I have hardly any experience with full fledged roleplaying, but if it doesn't work out I won't get upset or leave the site!
Drakey, I'd love to hear about your character! Thank you for your interest!

The only thing I would recommend is choosing a setting that has already been established. Otherwise you have different participants with different views of the future.

That's a good point, but it might be fun to create a new fictional universe and see how it develops as it's own thing rather than a spinoff of something else. But that's just me.
Perhaps I should outline what I had in mind, however- I was thinking it would be set about a thousand years in the future, where space travel is not uncommon. Practically everyone would have a spaceship, with or without a crew. I tend to prefer utopian futures to dystopian futures as a backdrop but that doesn't mean conflict and battles can't exist- just nothing too inappropriate or depresing, please!
But I'm absolutely open to interpretation and changes, I really just want a place to roleplay some space adventures!

So couple questions, would it be like Star Trek with Humans and Alien races living together as a normal thing or would Aliens be a new thing to the galaxy and thus still mistrusted, or is there no Aliens at all like Firefly?

Also do you want it to be like everyone is playing characters on a ship or everyone is playing characters with their own ships?

I'm interested, but Jinxlynx raises a good point. Might be wise to come up with at least a basic setting first so people have something to work with.

I was thinking some aliens would be known, and some would be discovered as the story develops- but I was thinking more about privately operated space travel rather than a Star Trek style United Federation of Planets. I also think that the players should have their own ships, but crews aren't out of the question. I just assumed that each player would have multiple characters to be their "crew", if they had one. I'm not sure if this would work or not, but I appreciate all the interest!
