Television is weird and oddly addicting. Well, it used to be back then. Cable service is not utilized that much considering the start of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and other video applications. Even then, people now would record only certain shows or only newer episodes.

Channel surfing is dying. It did provide entertainment for those who had nothing better to do. Hell, it might even help those who do not have the luxuries of streaming services and DirecTV. Channel surfing was a pastime that even the family committed themselves toward. Nothing was better than scanning through mutiple television programs. Charlie Chaplin, the beloved actor, claimed television would not last long after its first debut. I think television can still hold up a bit longer.

Executive producers just need to stop pitching the same shows over and over again. They need to halt the cancellation of very popular programmings. You guys remember Firefly? No more reality television shows that we never considered watching; I never asked for vapid programs like the ones on MTV.

Despite all the crap on television and all the complaints I have, it’s still entertainment. I still find my eyes glued to the monitor. I think it’s an addiction, but little by little, tv is improving. I feel that right now, television is just on a downward slope. And I have just the procedure to make it exciting again! I have just the solution to make cable television the best thing in the wolrd again!

“You have been invited amongst one of your friends to attend a television viewing party. The party regards the season premiere of a critically acclaimed show. Multiple hashtags and pop culture references emanated from this series. Twitter blew up as fans counted the days from the hiatus. This show built up a lot of hype.

You decide to go to the series premiere. Most of the people attending are people who you have met before. Even then, you know the host. The person hosting the event always seemed a bit odd, but who isn’t weird? The host did have a fallout though given one of their shows is up for cancellation though you paid it no mind.

Everyone communicated a bit with each other before the program started. In thirty minutes, everyone gathered around the high definition flat screen. The commercials were coming to a close and transitioned into the opening song. Unfortunately, the television immediately turned to static.

Almost all of the party-goers booed and began throwing the commemorative snacks at the screen. Some people began to whine while others sighed and thanked the Lord they decided to Tivo the episode. The silence suddenly broke when the tv acted strangely. Weirdly enough, the television had a gravitational pull.

Nobody saw it coming as the tv pulled various picture frames and bowls of food into the screen. At that exact moment, the flatscreen increased the strength. People began flying into the screen one by one. People tried holding onto the furniture, but the sofa and coffee table got sucked in as well. All throughout this madness, the host was not present.

All of the people attending became trapped in a sort of a limbo world. By observing the surroundings, everyone seemed to have been transported in a bar or a saloon. No colors resided in this place -- only black and white remained.

An old television set on a wooden stage began to flicker on. The host of the party reared her ugly mug on the screen. “Hello, folks! Don’t worry, this was all planned out! I would go on a speal about the unappreciation of channeling surfing, but it’s all just a cliche. I’m not your bad guy. I’m merely a researcher.”

She clapped her hands enthusiastically. “I am bringing channeling surfing to a new level! As some of you know, my show is dying and will become officially canceled in a few weeks. Though I have a new show and technology that includes the lot of you! Your objective is to pass through all 101 channels! If you guys can make it through the programming, then that would be amazing. Essentially, you guys are my guinea pigs. I also wouldn’t try dying. Mainly because you kind of die as well...yeah, not so great, but I still think this is very innovative.”

This roleplay focuses on the cliche that is known as the "Trapped in TV Land" trope. Shows such as Fairy Oddparents, Supernatural, Doctor Who, and even the Simpson have experienced this trope. Generally, the group of protagonists is trapped in the world of literature, a video game or as it always has been- tv. The heroes of the story usually try to find a way of living in their new situation or look for a way to escape. What comes next is the party jumping channel to channel while hitting a multitude of cliched worlds and thin parodies.

This roleplays is that but much bigger. The party must pass through 101 channels. Now I wanted things to be a bit different. There are different classes depending on your favorite genre. Experience points are in this roleplay so as to gain new abilities and skills for your character. If the channel is currently playing a genre that your character favors, s/he will experience a boost in strength. Passing a channel means defeating the boss enemy or resolving the situation of the given story.

This is the channel guide. Previously explored programmes can be found here. Roleplayers will be able to choose the television show or tv parody on every other time through a vote.

In most video games, these would be called "classes." Because we are inside a television, we will now refer to these as "genres." Your genre will determine your character's power, weaknesses, and strengths. Picking a genre will also give you a boost in certain shows. For instance, a Sci-Fi fan will do incredibly well if the channel centered around Star Wars.

A few executives have issued a survey out to the public. They are interested in finding what specific things people enjoy on television. By using this survey, they can find out a person's likes and dislikes and other variables such as age group and gender. They promise it will help improve television programming.

Despite the horrible conditions of traveling through dangerous channels, the creator of this technology left out one thing. Or more importantly, she did not become aware of this until after the fact. Within the television universe, strange beings have appeared. They are deemed as "Chasers." There are various types of Chasers, but one thing is certain, they are all hostile. Their motives are unclear as they just wish harm on the party trapped in TV land.

I'm going to go ahead and post it here for a post bump as well as so I don't have to dual screen if I have questions. I'm feeling lazy this late at night.

"... just one more episode, then I'll start..."

General Information

Name: Francesca "Frankie" Lars

Gender:Female

Age: 21

Appearance: Large blue eyes, long brown hair (with a balayage, of course), hipster glasses (because she is to lazy to put her contacts in), well used jeans, jacket, and t-shirt. Nothing shabby but nothing super chic, either.

Personality: Frankie is super outgoing and silly... but extremely stubborn.

Biography:Having been that naked baby on diaper commercials, Frankie somehow felt a weird connection to TV. Although she never pursued an acting career, the girl found out that she had an unhealthy obsession with binge watching shows... especially anything sci-fi (yes, even those cheesy, low budget movies on the sci-fi channel). Although she never finished college, the hipster girl spent most of her weekends on campus with most of her friends. It was at a frat party that she found out about the viewing party. Having made a life time vow of doing nothing but eating cheetos in front of the television, what better way could she spend her day?
TV Interests

Favorite Genre: Beam me up, Scotty! (Sci-Fi)

Favorite Movie/TV Show: Movie: Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back; Show: Dr. Who

Least Favorite Genre: HORROR!

Least Favorite Movie/TV Show: Movie: Anything fucking scary. She saw the Ring once and it still haunts her. TV Show: American Horror Show. She can't even stand to watch the previews/commercials.

Strengths: 1. Has a good memory. 2. Good with people 3. Can roll with the punches (probably not physically....)

Weaknesses: 1. Not athletic.... at.all. 2. Clumsy 3. Hard-headed to a fault

Theme Song: She legit runs around her apartment humming the theme song to Mission Impossible.
If she really gets into it, she might even do some kick ass moves (that an onlooker would just shake their head in shame).

Pay-Per-View Conflict

Weapon:Nothing atm.

Powers:Frankie can hear computers speak as if they were another person.

Techniques:Mother May I: Frankie can communicate directly with a motherboard of a computer in her head. Of course, it doesn't mean that they will agree to do as she asks, but she can at least attempt to politely hack them.

Skills:None?

Inventory:A purse full of organic snack foods, a bag of cheetos, a bottle of Dr. Pepper, a cell phone, and a zipper bag of colorful pens.

Accepted. Go ahead and put your application on the character tab. I will be implementing starting bonuses for the genres. Science Fiction will most likely grant you points in INT and PER.

What genre is anime

That's a tough question that I thought about before making this roleplay. I thought about making it a sub-genre, but under what category? Children? There's plenty of animes that are not for children.

I think the best option is to make anime its own genre.

Put "Animation" as your genre if you are interested in making a character sheet.

"There's no such thing as too much imagination..."

General Information

Name:Kaine Lee

Gender:Male

Age:20

Appearance: Black, shaggy hair that is left to hang just above his shoulders in an uneven cut, Kaine's dark brown eyes are almost always peering out, half-lidded from below a neatly parted fringe. A sharp nose, thin mouth and sharp chin, his slender frame concealed beneath long-sleeved T-shirts and jeans, the sleeves typically rolled up to his elbows. He stands at the height of 177cm, weighing 69kg. Since he rarely goes out under the sun for long periods of time, his skin is only lightly tanned, contrasting sharply with his dark hair.

Personality: Kaine is mild-mannered and a hard person to offend, waving off insults and jokes in an equally offhanded manner, as long as it is directed at him only, of course. Quick to banter with people he has been acquainted with before or anyone he is comfortable around, he is the sort of man that is easy to befriend, work alongside and open up to as long as he is not being his typical lazy self, which usually rubs some people the wrong way. He is serious when he has an objective to work towards and will do whatever it takes to complete it. He works best when sufficiently motivated and/or under pressure. If not, he is pretty lax and uninitiative until a superior (or his mom) gives him a command.

Biography:Kaine Lee is your stereotypical Asian kid. Born as the youngest of three children, his parents weren't exactly as demanding of him as his older brother and sister. Other than making sure he didn't fail anything and have good enough grades to enter college, they didn't care what he did. With nothing to motivate him, Kaine doesn't bother to put much effort into his studies. As long as he passed, he didn't care. It was his older brother who first introduced him to music and the horror genre through the theme song of Halloween, a 1978 horror movie. He watches horror partly for the music, the suspense and scares and of course, the looks on people's faces as they cringe from the screen.

TV Interests

Favorite Genre: Horror

Favorite Movie/TV Show:Movie = The exorcist, Lord of the Rings trilogy. TV Show = Supernatural, Grimm (can't choose, really.)

Least Favorite Genre:Comedy

Least Favorite Movie/TV Show:Movie = Mean Girls. TV Show = Home and Away

Strengths:1) Has patience in spades
2) Adaptable/Cool under pressure
3) Knows how to play most string instruments (not limited to English orchestra ones)

Weaknesses:1) Frank to a fault
2) Unmotivated for the most part
3) Uncharismatic

Theme Song:Kaine's general playlists contains mostly classical music pieces, his favourite composer being Tchaikovsky. More dramatic music are select pieces from Liu Mingyuan and Toru Takemitsu (a few of them are downright chilling).

Pay-Per-View Conflict

Weapon:None at the moment.

Powers:Cell-sized parasites resides in his blood, kept alive and thriving by absorbing half the nutrients he intakes. If someone else ingests a small amount of his blood, these parasites will feed on the victim from the inside out,
leaving the victim a dry husk in the end. It will take time to reach that end, of course.

Techniques:Leech I: Keeping skin contact between his own blood and the uncovered flesh of his victim (anything organic that has flesh and blood, autotrophs excluded) allows the parasites to literally eat at the living flesh. The eaten flesh is then transferred to Kaine to repair any physical ailments. Damage repaired is linked to the amount eaten.

Skills:None at the moment, I assume.

Inventory:Popcorns, a bag of chips, a bottle of sprite, his cellphone with a wallet case (contains a couple of cards and emergency cash), antique analogue wristwatch.
